Brock Lesnar Signs Exclusive Deal With Everlast

The biggest name in MMA has signed a deal with one of the biggest names in combat sports gear and apparel as Everlast announced a partnership with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar Wednesday.

The "exclusive, multi-year equipment contract" calls for Lesnar to train exclusively with Everlast equipment and be a public face for consumer and retail marketing initiatives. The company will also outfit Lesnar's DeathClutch Gym in Minnesota and have already installed a 30-foot training cage in the facility.

"Brock Lesnar's combination of size, athleticism and elite wrestling ability is truly unmatched," said Matt Cowan, VP of Marketing and Products for Everlast said in a press release. "His strength, determination and individuality makes him resonate with our brand ethos and we are excited to welcome Brock to our storied family of champions."

Lesnar joins UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy Couture as MMA stars that Everlast sponsors.

Lesnar (5-2) is just over a week away from returning to action against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 on Friday, December 30th. It will be the 34-year-old's first competition since losing his title to Cain Velasquez in October 2010.

Yeah, not the smartest move for Everlast.

Brock will retire after losing to Overeem and be laughing all the way to the bank.

“Bad investment” was the first thing that came to mind for this exact same reason.

Hey Jon! Jon! Jon Jones! Goddammit... Jon Jones!

Or more likely

They will be sponsoring the UFC HW champion of the world by late spring 2012.

Or even more likely

they’re not idiots and they can opt out of the contract if Brock retires or gets cut.

Exactly

This isn’t Just Bleed t-shirt company #3432534636. This is Everlast and they’ve been sponsoring sport’s athletes for years with bigger stars/contracts than Brock Lesnar. I’d venture to guess they have a pretty good idea what their getting into.

I thought the same

But you never know. Brock can beat Overeem and get the title back from JDS. Anything can happen in mma. But I think Overeem most likely will destroy Brock with strikes and his vicious knee.

You don't need to be the best to be a good marketing platform.

Brock will help them sell a ton of merchandise regardless of how many fights he has left or how well he does.

Agree with this

People buy a shirt cause they see it and like it, not because the guy who wore it won or lost.

I'm sure it's going to work out great for Everlast.

There’s a lot of young WWE fans who want to use whatever gear 5-3 Brock Lesnar uses while they shadow box in front of the big mirror in their parents room.

by NoHo on Dec 21, 2011 6:38 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

The young WWE fans that were into Brock are in their 20’s and 30’s now. I hope they aren’t shadow boxing in front of their parent’s mirror wearing Everlast to be like Brock.

It's that the world is basically a forced labor camp from which the workers, perfectly innocent, are led forth by lottery, a few each day, to be executed.
I don't think that's just the way I see it. I think that's the way it is. Are there alternative views? Yes. Will any of them stand close scrutiny? No.

I could honestly see

UFC leading a prospect to slaughter against him just to cash in on Lesnar-Mir 3. There’s a lot of hate and trash talk to be had there, selling the ppv. And they gave Machida a title fight during a 1-2 skid.

Or do Mir vs. Cain and have them both fight while coming off losses.

by Bolshevik on Dec 22, 2011 1:04 AM EST up reply actions

Oh how bad of a match up

that is for Mir. I think how bad Cain looked in the JDS fight was a fluke. Pretty sure JDS would truck Cain 9/10 times but he wouldn’t look that awful. I say Mir can handle anyone outside the top 5. Brock would destroy him again but it’d sell more than Mir-Cain.

by El_Ee_Oh on Dec 22, 2011 1:42 AM EST via Android app up reply actions

I don’t think Brock really cares about money at this point. Reportedly he tuend down a 42m offer from WWE. I don’t think he’s hurting too badly. He’s set. Especially being a man of simple tastes. Guns are (relatively) cheap toys.

I'd rather be trollin'.

42 Million? When he made just under six million last year? OK then.

by WanderChe on Dec 21, 2011 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

not even close to being correct

and let me tell you why. brock is under contract with the UFC. he couldn’t sign a contract with the WWE even if he wanted to. i was under the impression that EVERYONE was aware how contracts work.

wow so much hate going on around here

who cares already, so what he came from the WWE. if your not a fan its ok but coming from the WWE should mean nothing. in fact if he came straight from college you would prob all be on his nuts bout how awesome he will be but since he came from the WWE everyone hated him. ignoring that he is an awesome wrestler with freakish athletic ability whos trying to compete against the best in the world and even though hes struggled with power strikers, hes now gonna fight arguably the best striker in the heavyweight division, and before that he was gonna fight the best pure boxer in the heavyweight division. haters gonna hate i understand that. but its getting really pathetic at this point. i promise you the people at everlast have much better idea of how marketing works then the people saying how bad a business deal this is.

You guys are stupid

So sponsoring a 105 year old Randy Couture is shrewd business but sponsoring the biggest name in MMA Brock Lesnar is a bad investment as he MAY lose his next fight… haters gonna hate.

by swiftman on Dec 21, 2011 10:20 PM EST reply actions

It's not because he may lose

It’s because he hasn’t fought in forever, and the last time he did he got killed. Plus he’s coming back from a life threatening illness, YET AGAIN.

by Neil Manich on Dec 21, 2011 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

and he still made more money and draws more viewers to mma then ANYONE in the sport

again haters gonna hate. hes obviously a money draw and everlast knows exactly what they are doing by being his sponsor even if neil manich and others disagree with them.

“haters gonna hate”
I always love when people make that idiotic shortcut “you disagree because you’re a hater”, so lazy.

Hey Jon! Jon! Jon Jones! Goddammit... Jon Jones!

by spectaa on Dec 22, 2011 5:35 AM EST up reply actions

its not a shortcut.

people really are just gonna hate on brock for stupid reasons like he came from WWE. who cares about that, why should it matter in the grand scheme of things. hes obviously a huge draw and brings in alot of money otherwise everlast would not sign him to a multi-year deal. i said haters gonna hate because, ill use your word here, idiots feel that its not smart to advertise using lesnar because they obviously know better then the marketing people who work for everlast and do this for a living. they are only saying its a bad move because they hate brock as a fighter. once again haters gonna hate.

by benten20 on Dec 22, 2011 8:41 AM EST up reply actions

This... what benten20 said

Sponsorships are all about exposure. Sure credentials and all that play a part but Lesnar is a former world champion and has a huge following and sells massive amounts of PPV’s every time he’s on a card and that is what Everlast is looking for.

Overeem barely has the dexterity to lift a fork to his mouth

….let alone choke out a guy with no neck. Brock will take him down, win, and Everlast will cash in. They know this.

Right, obviously everlast is only looking at the fight next week for the multi year contract they signed.

The Season 4 BE rec’ing CHAMPION!
The Season 1 Blow the Staff CHAMPION!
The Season 2, 3 and 4 Cat Molesting CHAMPION!
The reigning and defending Transgendered S&M CHAMPION!

Why does it matter if he loses next week, or if he only fights once a year?

Brock Lesnar is a HUGE name to a large group of people.

I don’t think Nike is worried that GSP is a bad investment if he loses.

Brett Favre has taken a huge PR hit over the last few years, and is retired, and is still selling Wranglers.

We have a famous combat athlete signing a (big money?) endorsement with a famous combat sports equipment maker, I don’t see how thats a bad thing.
