Cowboy VS Diaz
why is no one talking about this fight? I wish their was more hype behind this fight but its not on a mainstream level. This fight on a internet level should be buzzing about this fight. You have two of the toughest guys at 155 that talk the most shit and taunt more than anyone else in the mma world fighting eachother and no one is even giving this fight a pop on the main page of web sites. This will be fight of the year with two guys that have two huge egos and i dont see it going to the ground..This fight will be better than dan vs shogun.. (Cowboy by decision.. )

You're right
This fight hasn’t gotten nearly enough attention. It’s all been sucked away by the post-140 Jones hate/defence and Overeem’s testing issues. But I do feel this will be a late candidate for FOTY.

Cowboy wins
I think he has much better standup, and he can prob match Diaz on the ground. Cowboy by decision.
jj rankings?
I thought nate was a brown belt and donald’s was black, but I have no idea who awarded cerrone his.
This is an oule.

Nate is a brown belt, but that is because Cesar Gracie is very stingy with his belts. Nate Diaz is very easily a black belt, especially in mixed martial arts.
I would say Diaz is probably a better grappler.

His triangle is better than Cerrones' that's a fact.
I really have no idea who is gonna win this fight. Cerrone is ver hittable but he’s also the more diverse striker and has the better takedowns.

I think that Cerrone is very hittable as well, and might be a problem if Diaz is super aggressive.
by discoandherpes on Dec 21, 2011 10:09 AM EST up reply actions
Cerrone better use his kicks cause his his hands aren't as good as Diaz's either.
I’m taking Cowboy in this one but I don’t know how he’s gonna do it. Both of them have great chins as well so I’m sure this is going to a dec. and that kinda scares me cause in a battle of “Who landed more” Diaz would probably win.

Diaz might have a longer reach as well, so Cerrone is going to need to use his kicks and punish Diaz’s legs and body.

Taking down Nate
Isn’t exactly a great thing to do for most fighters.
Even Gray Maynard wanted no part of his guard.

Gray ain't a Jitz guy though.

No
But he is a very solid top control player with good sub defense who had no problem with Kenny Florian or Jim Miller’s guard(two black belts).

Roger Huerta had him in a pretty deep kimura the fight before Diaz I believe.
he didn’t get subbed but it was tight, prolloy put the fear in him.

Cerrone's 6 wins by triangle beg to differ.
I don’t know who has the better triangle but I don’t think it’s fair to say that it is fact that Diaz has the better triangle.
How would you even evaluate that? Grappling match, triangles only?
All these, uh, dealmakers making deals. Ya know, I don't, all I know is I'm ready to fight so, ya know, I'm sorry I didn't make it to the beauty pageant.
I don't even think Cerrone has a BJJ rank
If he did, he’d probably be a purple or brown belt.

He's a Black Belt actually
Under whom is the real question…
by Colin Paul Kowlessar on Dec 21, 2011 9:10 PM EST up reply actions
I'm almost 100% sure he's not even ranked
I can’t find one scrap about him having any belt at all, let alone a BJJ BB.
Its pretty obvious from his fights that he’s a good BJJ player, but he doesn’t show the technicality or poise of a BJJ BB. That and every black belt I know of damn well makes it clear they have one and who they got it from.

This is the perfect co-main even to something like Lesnar-Overeem
These guys are going to throw down in a big way.
I think Cerrone takes this one pretty handily though.
But it’s hard to say what Diaz’ win over Gomi really means. The marketing and UFC hype will promote it like ‘Nate has turned over a leaf and is ready to destroy guys at 155’
But it may in fact be ‘Nate Diaz is good but not great and will always be able to beat a certain level of fighter and lose to better fighters’
He’s a young guy, so there is always room for that ‘turned over a new leaf and REALLY started performing well’ cornerstone of his career…but I’m inclined to think it’s the latter and that Cerrone takes it.

I think Nate Diaz is a great fighter. Even when he loses he usually does more damage to his opponents than he they do to him.

A win over Gomi doesn’t mean shit at this point. If he hadn’t beaten him as soundly as he did it would have been major cause for concern.
As it is, I think Nate learned something in his time up at welterweight. He had a bad gameplan against Rory but he said that the way he lost to Kim (in a fight he and I thought he won) made him think “ok I have to do the wrestling to get the win”…..so I give him a free pass on that fight.
The Diaz brothers kryptonite is wrestling. They simply DO NOT lose to guys who are strikers and/or jiu jitsu guys.
Remember Nick vs Paul Daley? No one thought Nick had a chance standing and he fucked him up something fierce on the feet. Im hearing a bit of the same stuff with this fight here. Leg kicks, etc. etc.
Nate wins.

I loved the promo for this with the story about Cowboy trying to say Hi to Nate during the open workouts

Paraphrasing
Cerrone: I tried to give him a handshake and he totally blew me off ect
Diaz: Yeah, he shouldn’t have done that.
It was pretty funny.

and my heart swelled 2 sizes
every time one of the Diaz brothers is dick for no reason there is an explosion of joy in my heart.
The fight is going to be epic. I think that Cerrone has the better stand up but I am always criminally underestimating the Diaz Brother’s striking. If it goes to the ground I imagine that it will be Cerrone shooting for the takedown so we’ll see. I think they are about even.

Totally agree
This is an awesome fight but I’ve heard next to nothing about it. I think Nate takes this. Don’t see Cerrone getting the better of Diaz on the feet and especially not on the ground. All of Nate’s UFC loses are to big strong wrestlers and I think Diaz has good enough TDD to stop Cerrones shot

Cerrone won't be looking for a takedown
though I think he can take Nate down at will. he’ll probably look to pick Diaz apart with leg and body kicks as he’s coming in to box. Cerrone will look to strike and stay out of Diaz’ punching reach. Diaz will likely get inside at some point but won’t have the power to KO Cerrone and won’t get in often enough to accumulate alot of damage. idk if the volume style will get to Cowboy. it certainly can. but he’ll likely hurt Nate with his poweful kicks. idk who to go with. Nate has better boxing ,bjj (probably), and cardio, Cerrone has the power, the k1, and the wrestling. both guys are extremely tough and aggressive. I’m going with Cerrone by TKO but I think it’s evenly matched.

Cerrone will have more weapons on the feet in terms of better kickboxing and MT. Nick has good hands but it wont be enough to match the cowboy’s more diverse striking. IMO Nate will have to look for TD’s off of Cerrone’s kicks or wherever he can get them. I doubt that Nate will attempt this or will be successful enough if he does attempt it therefore…..UD Cerrone.

Cerrone will chew Nate up with leg kicks and point fight his way to a decision. Afterwards Nate will believe he won the fight.

just because he fights under Greg Jackson
doesn’t mean that Cerrone is a point fighter. He looks for and generally finds finishes for his fights. He has to be crazy confident considering the tear that he’s been on lately. If he wins big (I am hoping he doesn’t) this could be a real break out fight for Cerrone

Should be a lot of fun
Both guys love to scrap, on the feet or on the ground. Cerrone is the hotter fighter right now, but this is exactly the kind of fight that Diaz should thrive in: aggressive standup and/or submission-oriented grappling. Hard to know who to pick. Seeing Cerrone murder Siver was an eye-opener, but it’s hard to see Diaz losing in a brawling type of fight.
I consider myself a softcore fan.
WAR NATE!
Stockton mutherfuka, Nate ain’t nobodies bitch, don’t be scared homie, 209!!!
Ok I’m done
Don't be scared Gomi...
