Light heavyweight, Stanislav Nedkov, was one of the several fighters to drop off January's UFC 142 card last week, although Nedkov was dealing with a visa issue, and not an injury. Now, the UFC has wrangled up a replacement for him to square off with boxing specialist, Fabio Maldonado, and will be a fellow Brazilian and Nova Uniao representative, Caio Magalhaes. The UFC's Brazil office tweeted the news yesterday:
ufc_brasil UFC BrasilOficializando:@MaldonadoMMA enfrenta o estreante Caio Magalhães no#UFCRio2 - típico duelo Striker vs. Grappler no Octógono.
There is a significant gap in experience between Maldonado with his 22 career MMA fights, and an additional 22 pro boxing matches, and Magalhaes, with only 5 pro MMA fights to his name. Regardless, Magalhaes brings some skill to the Octagon with a black belt in BJJ and the benefit of training with some of the best fighters in Brazil at Nova Uniao.
