Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal Main Card Betting Lines

The first major Strikeforce card in three months is coming up this weekend, and the betting lines for the main card dropped today. And folks...there's not much to see here. Three lopsided lines and one that's sort of close. It should come as no surprise to anyone that champions Gilbert Melendez and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos are heavy favorites, Cyborg in particular. Mousasi as a big favorite isn't that out there either, though there might be a tiny bit of value in OSP at +300. To me, the best value on the main card is Noons at -190. Evangelista has little finish and KJ is the more polished striker. Anyway, here are the lines for the main card.

lol, no one is even giving Yamanaka a chance in this fight, its basically a man fighting a girl. Those first 3 fights seem so lopsided, but I think that Masvidal really has a good chance for an “upset” his striking is really good, and his wrestling isn’t bad either. And for OSP its a little too much to soon, Mousasi is going to have his way with him on the feet. And Noons is going to win his one……nuff said

Love OSP and Masvidal at +300

Solid underdog plays.

I think Masvidal's gonna dictate that fight from start to finish

but I love OSP. That Jardine fight has me really down on Mousasi.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

why? Mousasi crushed Jardine, it's not his fault the ref and the judges conspired against him

i love the before and after pictures of Mousasi and Jardine in that fight, it’s obvious who won that fight, draw my ass.

Because

OSP is probably a better wrestler than Jardine, and he’s certainly a better athlete. If Jardine can get him down repeatedly, then so can OSP. Nobody thinks that Jardine deserved the draw there, but it did raise some questions about Mousasi’s takedown defense.

Yeah, this exactly

I definitely scored that fight for Mousassi, but a washed up Jardine shouldn’t have been able to make it so close. I think OSP can overpower him and possibly dictate the pace and location of the fight.

The fact

That Mousasi let jardine make the fight look close was enough for me. I know jardine can look good against the best on occasion. But he lost to Trevor Prangley….come on Sauce! You should have eaten him for breakfast.

He did eat him for breakfast. Mouse Saucy pounded his face in. He made Keith Jardine look like a horror movie reject.

Ugh.

I meant Melendez is gonna control. I still like OSP though.

Wow!

Mousasi has his work cut out for him fighting a guy like Ovince.I’m stoked for this one.If he comes out victorious,he should gun for the big league sooner than later.

Look at the line on Cyborg...

Has there ever been a fight where a fighter has come in as a bigger favorite than -900? They are expecting Cyborg to destroy Yamanaka.

I guess they figure she’s just too small to submit Cyborg while surviving her GnP?

Pretty sure Fedor was at a -1200 against Choi. I think Santos was a bigger favorite against Finney (?)

Crazy odds against Choi

Sure he lost fast, but he did Fedor’s face some damage in the minute the fight lasted. None of the bookies thought he could land a solid punch in the initial flurry?

I can remember a few

Mousasi -1500 against Tatsuya Mizuno, Randy Couture -1200 vs. James Toney. That’s about it though.

Mousasi is awesome but not -400 awesome against OSP who has huge potential

You down with OSP?

Oh, you know me. I’m down with OSP.

and another thing

Let’s see Cyborg in a fight that doesn’t have a pre-determined outcome…

put up against dudes.

Cyborg v Miguel Torres who you got?
Cyborg v Jens Pulver lines would have to be about even on that one

-900 ….. c-mon man?

The girl she is fighting is consensus number 2

Can’t say she’s not fighting top comp. You can say the womens divison is weak though. That said I wouldn’t put it past Yamanaka getting the W. You’ll see, its gonna be competitive.

lol

Yama has close to 0 chance, hence the odds.

maybe, but I didn't say that

I was insinuating that even the very best competition that female mma has to offer… probably won’t be good enough to beat Cyborg. We’ll see. I hope you are right, I’d rather see a fight than an episode of bully beatdown.

by Clark Griswald on Dec 15, 2011 9:18 AM EST up reply actions

Cyborg would get crushed by her male counterparts. Stop it.

Jesus Christ, does Strikeforce make some bomb-ass lemonade from their lemons or what?

Great matchmaking, (sans Cyborg) really interesting fights here.

if Masvidal upsets El Nino

I still want Gilbert to move to UFC, look at where Benson is now even though he lost his strap before heading to UFC

Exactly

That’s one of the craziest turn around stories in recent UFC history. Just goes to show we can’t run a fighter into the dirt after just one loss….although people love to do just that…

Also shows that losing one fight in the shark tank that is the lightweight division will drop you down far (Pettis).
