Johnny Bedford vs. Eddie Wineland Set for UFC on Fox 2
Former WEC bantamweight champ, Eddie Wineland, was originally tasked with facing Demetrious Johnson at the upcoming UFC on Fox 2 event in Chicago on January 28th, but now Johnson has been shifted into a spot in the inaugural flyweight tournament in March, and Wineland has a new opponent. TUF 14 semifinalist, Johnny Bedford, has gotten the call and confirmed via Twitter today that he will face Wineland in Chicago:
Its official!! I am fighting ex WEC Champ Eddie Wineland
@ufconfox in Chicago on Jan 28!#movinup
Bedford, who is already quite large at 135 lbs., looked absolutely beastly in his dominant win over Louis Gaudinot at the season finale a few weeks ago. The Texas native is also one of the more experienced fighters to compete on his season of TUF, with 28 career fights to his name already at 28 years of age. Wineland, on the other hand, is looking to right his ship after following up a four-fight winning streak in 2010 with two consecutive losses in 2011, albeit to stiff competition in the form of Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez. Wineland wasn't exactly outclassed in those losses, but he showed notable hesitancy on his feet while concentrating on his takedown defense, leading to him getting outstruck despite being perceived as having the striking advantage in those fights.
"Brutal" Johnny Bedford (18-9-1)
W Louis Gaudinot (TKO) - TUF 14 Finale
W Frank Gomez (submission - RNC) - Jackson's MMA 3
L Edwin Figueroa (TKO) - KOK 9
Eddie Wineland (18-8-1)
L Joseph Benavidez (unam. decision) - UFC on Versus 5
L Urijah Faber (unam. decision) - UFC 128
W Ken Stone (KO - slam) - WEC 53

For sure
TUF midget to title contender. He’s going to get crunched

Agreed.
Bedford looked better than expected on TUF, but there is a reason he was considered a journeyman entering the season. He had some fortuitous matchups against guys who are just biding their time until the flyweight division is announced. Wineland is a former champion who is just a notch below the elite guys in the division. Eddie all day.
you guys sure talk alot about Bedford beating a midget
Wineland just got his ass kicked by a guy the same size as Gaudinot. With that said, he should smash Bedford pretty easily

Damn I can't believe that fight wasn't declared NC
Someone dumped a bunch of boiled asparagus on that guy’s head.
On a serious note:
Finally a rebound fight for poor Wineland.

Wineland lost his last 2 fights...so they give him the last guy to fight for the title
WTF?
This is a match up that makes a lot more sense.
damn and i liked bedford
Oh well guess he will be 1-1 unless he can do what everyone else did and wrestle like hell hoping he can take wineland down. Then maybe he won’t get ktfo.

not sure what fighs you were watching
Both Faber and Joe-B outstruck Wineland. Both guys had trouble getting him down, but he was so focused on TDD he was tentative in the standup.

WTF
Athletic Commission?
This needs not to be rubber stamped because they have nearly identical reccords, Wineland’s losses come from hard fought wars against the best of the best.
Whatever, I like Wineland, soooo congrats on a showcase fight!

Winelands got the hardcore fans
Wineland seems like the fans’ overall pick; a winnable fight, I would not like to see the upset here…Wineland should take it, TKO
