VIDEO: Don Frye Returns, Gets Knocked Out Badly

Earlier this year, a 52-year-old Dan Severn was knocked out badly in an effort to earn his 100th victory. It was a sad scene that played out in front of a small audience. Fans in Lincoln, California, got their own "Severn moment" as 46-year-old Don Frye returned to action for the first time in over two years in a rematch against 41-year-old Ruben Villareal last Sunday.

The match was for the Gladiator Challenge promotion and their light heavyweight title. The two first fought to a draw for King Of The Cage back in 2006 and Villareal was an injury sub for the 5-6 Mike Gonzalez this time around. Villareal (19-23-3) has been a bit more active than Frye, fighting four times this year...except he lost all four and has dropped five of his last seven.

He did get back on the winning track in quick fashion last weekend though:

It was the first action for Frye (20-8-1-1) since he lost to Dave Herman in sixty seconds by first round KO.

Just a thought. Give him Herschel Walker? That wouldn’t be a bad idea. Good send off for both.

Great

I actually think Walker vs. Frye would be awesome. I still wish Don had a day job though. He’s a nice funny guy. I almost wish I could pay his bills and insurance. He really hasn’t caught on with Hollywood or as a profitable commentator. He reminds me of that movie “The Wrestler” with Mickey Rourke.

This guy is going to have CTE and die a very early death

I get the he LOVES fighting but this is hard to watch. I don’t think he has much to move on to in life but there’s other shit he could be doing

Yeah, that was uncomfortable to listen to.

Haha this looks like a run of the mill knockout...

What makes it bad? Because it’s to Warpath or because Frye looked like shitballs?

Funny thing about this gif is, were it any other fight, it would’ve been a specific and memorable moment during one of the rounds. This fight though, the gif could’ve been taken from any point of the fight from beginning to finish, because that’s basically all that happened throughout the whole thing.

If you think that was brutal

think about what his fight with Mo Lawal would have looked like, had it happened.

But if you guys keep posting this on the front page, I will have a meltdown at work. and it won’t be pretty.

don was just doing a rope a dope .

.. the ref stopped it early when he was shooting for a leg .. ps my money would be on the beast >>> than the predator

by spidathon on Dec 14, 2011 3:33 PM EST reply actions

Considering his age and the wars his been in frye Should stop now before something bad happens to him.. Well worse than that anyway

That ref shoulda stopped the fight earlier IMHO. The video we had didn’t have the best view and was either jumping up and down or has tourrettes or something. There were people saying he was out on his feet and that could have been avoided. Kampmann/Daley anyone? Wouldnof liked to have seen some proper footage to get a better grip on fryes state just before he fell like a sack

truly sad

he just looks like a healthier version of Jake the Snake Roberts.
if Warpath had punched Frye in his mustache, he would have broken his hand.
