UFC's TUF 14 Finale Draws 1909 For $450,000+ Live Gate
The final attendance numbers are in for the UFC's The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale show: 1909 passed through the turnstiles for a $452,700 live gate and average paid ticket price of just over $335.
Nevada State Athletic Commission head Keith Kizer emailed the numbers to Bloody Elbow today, also noting that 561 of the 1909 distributed tickets were comps with 233 unsold.
The Saturday, December 3rd event was held at The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, and headlined by Michael Bisping vs. Jason Miller with John Dodson vs. T.J. Dillashaw and Diego Brandao vs. Dennis Bermudez in the bantamweight and featherweight finals, respectively.
By comparison, the June TUF 13 event at the Palms headlined by Clay Guida vs. Anthony Pettis brought in 2053 and a live gate of $440,150.
The event also did extremely well on TV, drawing an average of 2.5 million viewers, peaking at 3.4 million for Bisping vs. Miller. It is the UFC's final season of TUF on Spike as the show moves over to FX in March.

Why do they even bother having fights in Vegas anymore?
I know the city’s full of high rollers but 1909 tickets? really? Aren’t there plenty of cities clamoring for a UFC event even if it’s a TUF finale?

EXACTLY!
I was just about to put this as well. I don’t want to start a geographical war here or say anything negative about the fans in Vegas. BUT C’MON MAN! You could hear a pin drop most of the show, the crowd was not invested at all, just not a very entertaining atmosphere. Put these shows in markets that will sell out moderately sized venues and make bank!
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift.
because they don’t have to move a bunch of shit to have it there. Because the casino pays them to be there.
Understood
It still doesn’t change the fact that they couldn’t even sell out a 2500 seat venue for a UFC show. Comp’ed fans are disinterested fans, my opinion.

Phoenix had second highest rating
In the country for UFC on Fox 1 but we still haven’t had one UFC here ever.

Agreed
Phoenix is always one of the highest rated areas that watch PPV, but still we have not recieved a UFC card here ever. I know people say its because of John Mcain BS talking about human cockfighting but that was years ago. What gives?

Same with Albuquerque. Not nearly as big as Phoenix, but big fighting culture here from boxing to MMA (obviously with Greg Jackson and company out here).
And even Rio Rancho, a suburb about 45 minutes away from Albuquerque, drew 4,600 people to a WEC event. Would easily outsell the Palms for a TUF finale, I would think.
Nope.
TUF13 finale had sales of 2053, so 1909 makes sense for this season.

The Palms casino is fucking tiny.
I’ve said on multiple occasions that they shouldn’t even hold events there at this stage in the promotion, but then them underselling a venue with less than 3000 seats doesn’t help my argument.

I’ve been to a few UFC events but always wanted to go to 1 at the Palms cause you just cant get a bad seat there and that row of bleachers at octogon level (above floor level) just can’t be beat for viewing.

Is there a legal reason why they have to release the numbers? Or is it a promotional thing? Always wondered why a privately owned company has to tell anyone what they made and what they pay people.
if you read the artice you would notice the info comes from NSAC

True didn’t really pay attention, skipped over most of it because it means little to me.
Anyway, the UFC does announce these numbers for PPVs and its always struck me as odd.

Wait...$335 average?
People actually paid an average of $335 to see this live? Did a few people pay thousands of dollars for tickets to so the number looks crazy or are these tickets just WAAAAYYY overpriced?
When I went to an event tickets ranged from 50-600 dollars, and from what I’ve gathered from other people that was actually incredibly cheap for a Vegas event at the time, 2 years ago. 335 seems pretty reasonable.

Someone told me it was because of the whole Spike/Zuffa bullshit, but I don’t see why that would want them to have such a small venue for the live show. But 2000 people just DOES NOT SEEM LIKE ENOUGH. At all.
Going forward
they should make the tickets affordable, and use TUF Finale’s as a tryout of sorts for actual UFC shows. If a city can sell out TUF and have a good crowd, give them a shot at bigger events. Spread the footprint out a bit.
I know they had a UFC here in Portland a while back, the tickets were wayyy expensive, and the crowd sucked. Use TUF, and probably FX shows and the like, as a primer to get people in the door then bring numbers shows to the places that do well.
