Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Satoshi Ishii Confirmed For NYE
Fedor Emelianenko will face Satoshi Ishii in Japan on New Years Eve.
Sherdog was the first to confirm this rumored bout after speaking with people close to DREAM 'Genki Desu Ka! New Year! 2011." The fight was rumored after being mentioned in Fedor's post-fight speech at the M-1 event in Moscow. Fedor was able to bounce back from a three fight skid with losses to Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva, and Dan Henderson when he defeated Jeff Monson in November.
Ishii made news when he was wined and dined by the UFC only to choose Sengoku as his MMA home. His career got off to a rocky start with a loss to Hadehiko Yoshida but he's gone undefeated since with four wins and a questionable draw to Paulo Filho in September.
'Genki Desu Kai! New Year! 2011' will be live from the Saitama Super Arena on HD Net and will also feature the finals of DREAM's bantamweight tournament. DREAM is also showcasing two title fights with Shinya Aoki defending his lightweight belt against Satoru Kitaoka and Hiroyuki Takaya facing Takeshi Inoue.

Top 25 heavyweights who aren’t under contract with Zuffa:
- Cole Konrad
- Gabriel Gonzaga (maybe, since he retires and unretires every other week)
…that’s it. I’m not sure what huge fights Fedor should be taking.

Why?
Fedor still wants to fight and still wants to make money. I say let him. Fedor’s shown that he can still dominate savvy veterans like Monson, and I think he’s going to knock the fuck out of Ishii. Dude got outclassed by a 40 year old, beat up Yoshida.

He's adapting his technique to accomodate his aging body.
Which, for a guy like Fedor- was bound to take some time. He was always used to being faster than his opponents, and being able to sustain a rabid aggression because of it.

I find this attitude strange
it’s like being a huge hockey fan but not caring about anything but the NHL. Where do you think all the prospects come from? Most everyone starts in smaller organizations and builds their way up to the big leagues, and it’s a blast to watch them progress. Why you would discredit everything but the UFC is beyond me, you are missing out on a ton of great fights.

Its easy to understand
Some people watch MMA for their pure interest in MMA. Many others, probably the majority, watch MMA for the personalities and people more than their interest in fighting techniques, etc. And the UFC is the absolute best at marketing their fighters and making their fights relevant to the big picture.
So while I have no problem watching other organizations fights, I understand when people I know are more or less only interested in UFC fights.
ufc is the absolute best at marketing their fighters
Yea like Guida vs Henderson on facebook. Great job there. Kidding, they do so well everywhere else, its such a bummer more people didn’t see it. walks away from dead horse
I'm more selective when it comes to what minor leagues, colleges, or b leagues i'll watch
i hate college football. some games are good. the problem i have w/ college football and the dilution of talent compared to pros. oh, and no playoffs
i love college basketball. it’s my favorite team sport. i can’t explain it…..i hate the NBA
can only watch the highest levels of soccer and rugby league.
the one thing i can do is watch any level of MMA. amateur, regional, international, anything.

So..I dont know man. I dont think its right either. I just cant seem to care since Strikeforce was absorbed
Moisture is the essence of wetness....Joe
That’s not the point he was making. He was saying that if Fedor isn’t fighting the UFC heavies, he doesn’t care, because the fights outside of the UFC make no sense and are mismatches. This has nothing to do with whether or not warren watching Strikeforce, Bellator, or the slew of regional promotions that BE covers.

Fedor is not a prospect
However, the various regional and international orgs are a good place to catch once great fighters slightly past their prime as well.
well any Fedor fight will be interesting to me. hopefully a win sets him up for a better opponent in early 2012.

Like I said, he’s not a top level heavyweight but he is not a can either. I’m looking forward to the fight. I’m looking forward to that DREAM card overall. It’s a damn good card.

Theoretically...
…is Couture still under contract with Zuffa? Could we see Couture vs. Fedor outside of the Zuffa banner maybe? I’m not clamoring for it or anything, just posing the question.
Or Overeem if he gets dumped by Zuffa…
Pretty sure he had like 4 fights on a 7 fight contract left when he retired.
So… doubtful.

is what I ’d like to see next time. The last emperor of pride ,patient ,calculating mauler.
so just because a guy he’s not fantastic means he sucks. Ishii, a judo gold medalist, 4-1 who beat Jerome le Banner (not a great MMA artist but a who would still maul 99% of the rookies) after a single year in the MMA circuit.
I hope he wins but if he does, we’ll probably read things like “Fedor sucks”, “he’s never been all that good” …

Seems like if you arent top 25 in the world you are a can in MMA. If i was in the top 100 of any profession in the world id consider myself damn awesome.
I love Fedor, I would call myself a nuthugger in fact. If for some reason he was to fight JDS, I would pick Fedor. Fedor would most likely lose, but I love Fedor. As for all the people that bitch about his record, or his string of losses, how many fighters have demolished Big Nog in his prime? Or Mirko Cro Cop in his prime? Or Mark Coleman in his prime? Not too many, his legacy was cemented a long long time ago. I don’t care if he’s not fighting top flight competition anymore. For nearly ten years, he was the greatest mixed martial artist in the world, and that’s all that matters.
