Middleweight Costas Philippou of Team Serra Longo is 1-1 in the octagon. At UFC 133 he defeated veteran Jorge Rivera via split decision. Philippou, who hails from Cyprus, Greece, was not pleased with his performance because he did not stick to his game plan, which was to keep it standing. As a former professional boxer with over 80 matches under his belt, Philippou is a powerful striker with knockout power. Philippou is hoping for a more definitive victory come Dec.10 at UFC 140, when he faces Jared Hamman. Hamman is coming off a TKO victory over CB Dalloway. Many are predicting that this match up may overshadow The Korean Zombie / Hominick fight, as well as the main event of Bones / Machida and earn Philippou Fight of the Night Honors.
I had a chance to sit down with Philippou and discuss all of this and of course our mutual love of Greek food. We had so much to talk about, I had to make it a two parter.
