UFC 138 Results: Anthony Perosh Chokes Out Cyrille Diabate

After a lackluster first round, Anthony Perosh thoroughly dominated Cyrille Diabate in the second with his grappling and took his time setting up a finish. After not finding anything for a couple of minutes, Perosh opened up with some ground and pound and managed to snake an arm around Cyrille's neck. This time it was enough, and the tap came from Diabate at 3:09 of the round.

The fight started cautiously, with Diabate faking a knee continually. Perosh suffered a small cut early, despite Diabate not landing a lot. Perosh finally shot in on Diabate halfway through the round, but was easily stuffed. Diabate landed a couple of shots before Perosh decided to pull guard. Diabate landed a few shots on the ground while Perosh unsuccessfully looked to tie him up. Back on the feet, Diabate landed a huge kick to the body but Perosh caught the leg and took him down right into side control. Perosh looked to set up an arm-triangle a couple of times, but was unsuccessful. He rode out the round on top. Both fighters had the other guy where they wanted them, but neither did much with it.

Diabate started the second with more pep, and landed a knee while stuffing shot. He wasn't as successful the second time though, as Perosh ducked under a punch and got the takedown. After eating and upkick, he passed straight over to mount. Diabate gave up his back, and Perosh locked up a choke, but Diabate fought it off. Perosh spun to north-south, then back to mount. He sunk in an arm-triangle again, but again was not successful. Diabate gave up his back again, and Perosh switched to using some ground and pound to soften him up. It definitely worked, as he was able to slip his arm underneath Diabate's chin and get the tap with a rear naked choke.

The 38-year-old Diabate was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Steve Cantwell at UFC on Versus 3 back in March. This was his fourth fight in the UFC. The 39-year-old Perosh is coming off a win as well, over Tom Blackledge at UFC 127 in February, which was his fight light-heavyweight fight in the UFC. He had three prior heavyweight fights - a bout with Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 110, and two prior bouts back in 2006.
