UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz - Live Results and Play-By-Play for Main Card

On the main card Chris Leben and Mark Munoz clash in a middleweight bout which may have implications for a future title shot for the winner. Bantamweights Brad Pickett and Renan Barao meet in the co-main event of the evening. Thiago Alves tries to get back on track when he faces Papy Abedi, Terry Etim squares off with Edward Faaloloto and Cyrille Diabate fights Anthony Perosh in the remaining bouts.

Terry Etim vs. Edward Faaloloto - Round 1 - Etim lands a few short hooks and then a spinning kick and he locks up a guillotine and jumps guard and finishes it. Oh man, that was QUICK. Terry Etim wins by submission (guillotine choke), round 1.

Cyrille Diabate vs. Anthony Perosh - Round 1 - Diabate is stalking and feinting with his left knee. Straight left from the southpaw Diabate. A few punches land and Perosh's knees briefly look to buckle. Perosh is being forced to basically go strictly backward, every now and then looking like he wants to try to shoot. Person tries to throw an overhand right and then shoot but nothing doing. Body kick by Diabate and a left hand. Perosh shoots and Diabate sprawls out of it nicely. Three hard punches land for Diabate and Perosh tries to pull guard and Diabate lands a flurry of hammerfists and stands right back up. Body kick by Diabate, Perosh catches it and manages to get the takedown into side control. Half guard now. A few punches for Perosh. Perosh can't really do anything with it and the round ends. 10-9 Diabate.

Round 2 - Diabate stalking again. Knee to the body as soon as Perosh tried to close distance. A few punches for Diabate and Perosh gets the takedown. Diabate with elbows off his back. Upkick by Diabate and Perosh jumps to full mount. Perosh with an elbow and now has the back. Diabate turns out of a choke but is stillm mounted. Diabate tried to escape but Perosh goes to north-south, side control and then mount. Now the arm triangle was locked in but Perosh let it go. Perosh has the back and is opening up with big punches. Now the choke is locked in and Diabate taps out. Anthony Perosh wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 2.

Thiago Alves vs. Papy Abedi - Round 1 - Alves misses a leg kick and Abedi fires a flurry back that gets through a little. Hard leg kicks continue for Alves and he's throwing hard. Abedi trying to walk him down but continuing to eat leg kicks. A few punches from Abedi and he pushes Alves into the cage. Thiago with a knee to the body. Abedi firing hard punches still and a nice leg kick of his own. Hard body kick by Alves. Head kick by Alves blocked but leg kick lands very hard. Abedi checks a kick and lands some hard punches. This is a very competitive first half of the round. Right hand by Alves and a few more shots and Abedi is hurt. Alves follows him to the ground and he's landing hard shots. Full mount now and he is opening up hard with elbows and Abedi is bleeding. Abedi gives up his back and Alves sinks in the choke for the submission victory. Thiago Alves wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 1.

Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barao - Round 1 - They're exchanging hard and Barao lands a big shot. They keep firing back and forth. Kick to the body by Barao. Pickett catches him in the next exchange. Left hook lands for Pickett and he misses with a right hand. Big shot by Barao. Jab lands for Barao. They continue trading big shots as the round wears on. Pickett landing hard and now Barao fires back with big shots of his own. Huge knee by Barao and he follows up with big shots and Pickett is down! Barao to the ground with him. Barao has the back after some ground and pound, looking to get the submission. Pickett is forced to tap even though the choke wasn't fully sunk in. Barao looked great! Renan Barao wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 1.

Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz - Round 1 - Leben coming forward and Munoz looking like he wants to counter. Munoz gets a takedown and Leben tried to grab a guillotine but couldn't finish. Munoz was briefly looking for an arm triangle. Leben manages to wall walk to his feet and Munoz has him pushed against the cage. Body shots by Munoz. Munoz tries for the takedown, can't get it and lands a right hand. Leben with a takedown! Wow! RIght hands by Leben. Munoz gets to his feet and Leben is tagging him with right hands and now a big left. Munoz pushes Leben into the cage now. Leben landing now as Munoz is against the cage. Munos with a knee and Leben catches it and slams him to the ground. Munos stands and Leben tries to finish a guillotine. Drops to the ground with it but Munoz pops his head out. Munoz with a little ground and pound. Nice lefts now by Munoz and a huge right hand. Big uppercut by Munoz now. Big punches by Munoz. Leben gets through it and is swinging back now. Leben on top briefly and they're back to standing again. Leben ends the round landing shots.

Round 2 - Munoz gets a takedown about a minute into the round. Munoz working some big ground and pound. Leben gets to his feet, tries to come forward but gets taken right back down. Munoz looking to keep grinding him away. Leben is really looking gassed. Huge shots from Munoz and Leben looks frustrated more than hurt. Leben looking for a choke out of nowhere now. Leben screaming as he squeezes down on the choke with blood pouring out of his eye. After he gives up the choke, the ref stops so the doctor can check the cut. Leben says "I can see" and they restart the fight. Leben pushes forward and lands punches. Munoz dives and Lven was on top of a turtled Munoz but Munoz slid out and jumped on top of Leben. Munoz blasting to the body of Leben. Huge punches by Munoz and Leben just stands up. Crowd chants for Leben and he flails at Munoz off his back. This is so much fun.

There will be no round three as Leben says he can't see and the referee and corner stop the fight. Mark Munoz wins by TKO (retirement), round 2.
