Stefan Struve vs. Dave Herman Booked For UFC On Fuel 1

A battle featuring two middle of the pack heavyweights has been verbally agreed to as Stefan Struve and Dave "Pee Wee" Herman will go head-to-head on the UFC On Fuel 1 event, according to MMA Weekly.

Struve (22-5) is coming off a second round submission win over Pat Barry in October and has won three of his last four fights. The 23-year-old has been in the UFC since early 2009 and has a 6-3 Octagon mark.

Herman (21-2) made his UFC debut in June, earning Fight Of The Night honors in a second round TKO win over Jon Olav Einemo at UFC 131. He's been on the shelf since testing positive for marijuana before his scheduled October UFC 136 tilt with Mike Russow.

The 27-year-old denied any usage of the drug and has tested in the clear several times since his violation, clearing the way for him to return. He's won three straight and six of his last seven with five finishes to his credit.

The show was officially announced by the UFC for Wednesday, February 13 in Omaha, NE, with Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez as the main event.

Struve's getting better,

I was actually very impressed with Struve’s improvement in the Barry fight. Pat is quick and a hard hitter, and didn’t get to Stefan’s chin all that often.

I like both guys a lot...but think I'm pulling for Herman here.

The UFC really seems like they are making a subscription to Fuel worthwhile.

I mean, between Fox, FX, and Fuel…we’re going to be getting a lot of good free fights next year.

Still...

I don’t know about you but my cable provider only offers it in a sports bundle that’s like 10 bucks a month. I have no interest in any of the other channels at all so I kind of don’t want to pay for it. If they would offer Fuel by itself i’d be down for it.

by av1o3 on Nov 30, 2011 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

yeah I know

I don’t currently get Fuel.

I think the package it comes with from my provider is like $7 and change. So it’s not a horrible situation…but still.

But on the other hand…it might do me some good to not have EVERY card available…because I virtually never miss a card…and when it comes to hanging out with friends and family…that can kind of get in the way since most cards are on Saturday night. Usually I got out after…but still.

So maybe missing a card every now and then won’t be the worst thing…I’ll certainly be able to live with it…but we’ll see.

I'd get FUEL

But Comcast is full of assholes.

Also my place doesn’t service FIOS and the HOA seriously bans satellite dishes.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

I better

It’s a condo and I’ve yet to see a single dish anywhere in the complex.

You’re allowed to have it. It says satellite, too.

This is sweet. I love Herman as a fighter, he’s very talented and a trainwreck in the making. Is he the HW Leben? I dunno but he’s going to smash Struve.

Struve is goofy

Herman is goofy but talented and has mad power.

Herman by whatever he wants. Struve has zero chance to win this.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

by SSreporters on Nov 30, 2011 10:34 PM EST reply actions

Zero!?

I hope he pulls off a freak comeback submission or KO like the Barry or Morecraft fights. Better learn some head movement for this one though.

He was probably winning the Barry fight so I wouldn't say comeback for that

The Morecraft fight was an epic holy shit moment.

But Barry and Morecraft aren’t really UFC caliber. Herman is an animal and Struve doesn’t defend punches or react to them well. He looks like a crash test dummy when he gets hit.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

I obviously don't know enough about Herman,

Only saw him in the Einmo fight and I thought Einmo looked less than UFC caliber to be honest. Then he talked a bunch of crap about BJJ so maybe I’m biased. Agreed that Struve needs to work on his defense, takes way too much punishment in pretty much all of his fights.

interesting

but struve is a world class kickboxer and could stand with pretty much anyone in LHW anyway. he takes punishment but has come back from a lot of tough beatings and pulled off the W. plus a bjj blackbelt

Everyone ready for some technical heavyweight striking?!?

Yes

But only one fighter will bring it.

by SSreporters on Nov 30, 2011 11:34 PM EST up reply actions

Which one would that be?? LOL…

Herman has power, but he’s wild and sloppy. Struve has potential, but doesn’t fight intelligently (/tall).

by Diz D on Dec 1, 2011 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

Struve has brain farts

but on the whole, I think that he really does try to fight smart. The more he fills out his frame, and fills in the gaps in his technique, the harder it will be to get through his defenses. Pat Barry is a very hard hitter and a speedy guy, and Struve was able to land on him and avoid getting hit too hard.

He’s been getting better about using his range… but he’s not there yet.

If you watch his earlier UFC fights (Nelson, JDS, and maybe even more obvious in his early wins), you’ll see it’s more than just a brain fart. His instinct is to brawl, but he’s shown improvement.

by Diz D on Dec 3, 2011 4:36 AM EST up reply actions

Struve has very bad defense in the standup department. However, Herman seems to have motivation issues even being told by his corner in the Olav fight to ‘try harder.’ I’ll go with Herman here.
