A quality welterweight fight that was rumored a week ago is finally official. It just doesn't have a home yet. As usual, UFC.com offers the explanation:
"A potential fight of the night candidate has been verbally agreed to as Martin ‘The Hitman' Kampmann will face Thiago‘Pit Bull’ Alves in a welterweight match early next year," confirmed UFC president Dana White today.
The event will be aired on the FX Network in early March of next year.
There is a card tentatively scheduled for March 4th in Australia according to MMA Junkie, but that is likely going to be a PPV so it won't be the home of this bout. Alves spoke about the potential fight last week to Tatame, but Kampmann tweeted at the time that he hadn't heard anything about it. Obviously that has changed and the top 10 welterweights will square off in what will likely be a main or co-main event bout. Both are coming off wins - Alves submitted Papy Abedi at UFC 138, and Kampmann decisioned Rick Story at UFC 139.
