There have been a lot of rumors about a big middleweight matchup between Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen being set for UFC on Fox 2. With Dana White confirming that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is out until next June, it seems obvious that both of these guys will need to take another fight before either gets a shot at the title. But Bloody Elbow has confirmed that a bout between the two has not been signed off on yet.
While some sites are reporting it as a done deal according to their sources, BE spoke to Mr. Sonnen himself and he says the bout has not been confirmed or signed. A matchup with Munoz remains a possibility, but nothing has been set in stone as of late last night.
Sonnen last competed at UFC 136, where he thoroughly dominated Brian Stann and submitted him in the second round. Munoz is coming off a corner-stoppage win over Chris Leben at UFC 138 and is on a four-fight winning streak.
The event in question, which takes place on January 28th in the United Center in Chicago, will have four fights on the main card. No other bouts have been announced yet.
