It's very uncomfortable to see Wanderlei cry, even if he's happy

It’s like growing up with Red Foreman for a father and seeing him weep.

I don't know how to feel about this.

This must be what chicks feel like when they cry during sex.

Such a nice dude,

I’ve seen him a few times in Vegas at XC and the fitness gym… really nice guy.

Only met him once

But I have to think he is one of the nicest guys in the sport.

Refreasing, honestly,

to see a professional athlete so emotionally bare. I’m also a fan of hockey, where a lot of the stars are media trained from day one to deliver white bread answers.

This reminds me of the novel Fat City, an aging guy down on his luck just going after it one last time. I don’t want to see Wanderlei KOd again and I hope this win is his first step toward lower competition and a nice ride into the sunset.

I met him at JFK airport

and he went out of his way to approach me and introduce himself to my mom who had no idea who this gorilla of a man was. He was incredibly nice.

That fight is kind of getting lost in the shuffle of the awesomeness of Hendo/Shogun, but that fight was one of the saddest and yet most awesome things I’ve seen in a cage. I mean, Wandy looked totally done. He seemed so slow, and was getting rocked/shook by seemingly everything Cung Le threw, which given the love everyone has for Wandy and his recent chin issues, almost made you want to jump in and stop the fight. Then, it was like……….I dont even know how to describe it, like he dug down as deep as he’s got and found something, some kind of inspiration, and roared back to life (likely for the last time, lets face it) and showed his true character. It was fantastic.

I would say “controlled” rather than “slow.” I think older fighters who continue and want success need to be smarter, not harder. And I think this is what Wandy showed. I was impressed at how tactical he was. Cung Le was throwing a lot of unexpected strikes, stuff that Wand has never seen before, but he remained composed and struck when it was his opportunity. Frankly, I found his performance stunning.
