As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results, play by play and commentary for Strikeforce Challengers 20. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Showtime broadcast (11 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.
The event is headlined by a bout between Antwain Britt and Lumumba Sayers, the bout marks Britt's debut at 185 pounds. Co-headlining the show is a great women's bout between Ronda Rousey and Julia Budd. The three fights that round out the rest of the televised card is Adlan Amagov vs. Anthony Smith, T.J. Cook vs. Trevor Smith and Derek Brunson vs. Nate James.
It should be a fun night of action as most of the Challengers cards are.
Make sure to come back during the event and share your thoughts as the event goes down.
The Showtime broadcast is live.
Nate James vs. Derek Brunson - Round 1 - Brunson with a weird right hand then then a leg kick. Brunson with a takedown now and he's in side control. James is able to regain full guard as Brunson works him over to the cage. James throws his legs up for a triangle but Brunson postures out of it and passes to side control. James scrambles to his feet. Brunson throws a knee and it's a low blow so there's a break. Brunson's punching is really, really technically unsound. And now he pushes out with his hand open and pokes James in the eye and we have another break in the action. Brunson with a takedown to end the round but James does get back to his feet. 10-9 Brunson.
Round 2 - Brunson with a takedown and he throws James' legs aside to take side control. James turns over trying to get to his feet but ends up giving up his back. Brunson tries for the rear naked choke and James gets out of it. James gets up, slammed back to the ground, up again and he tries to roll for a kneebar but Brunson defends and has the back again. To be honest, this is not a good fight. James gets up and manages to get free with a minute left. Takedown by Brunson again though. 10-9 Brunson.
Round 3 - Brunson is moving around and showboat I guess. This is really slow paced and Brunson is sort of slap fighting. James with a few jabs. Punch lands for Brunson and James falls to the ground. Rather than pounce, Brunson...dances. Now he's on James' back. James gets up but Brunson still has the bodylock and has James pushed against the cage. They're restarted with a minute left. A few high kicks from Brunson are blocked.. Brunson with a big takedown and that'll secure the round. 10-9 Brunson.
Official scorecards: 30-27 across the board for Derek Brunson.
TJ Cook vs. Trevor Smith - Round 1 - Smith throwing some leg kicks and really covering up on the feet. Cook lands a punch and clinches up. Smith turns and gets full mount. Cook moves around trying to regain position and he does get half guard. Smith working from the top but not doing a whole lot of attacking. He tries a toe hold and Cook blasts him with a left hand off his back. Smith manages to lock in a guillotine choke and roll back to mount and Cook has to tap out. Trevor Smith wins by submission (guillotine choke), round 1.
Adlan Amagov vs. Anthony Smith - Round 1 - Smith flashes a jab. Smith with a wild hook and Amagov is looking for a takedown. He manages to whip Smith to the ground now and he's on top in Smith's full guard. Smith working his legs up very high. Smith with a body triangle while Amagov throws punches to the body from the top. They're restarted and both men are firing wild punches and Amagov is getting the better of it. Now a huge shot lands and Smith's legs give out and he falls to the ground. A few more punches on the ground and Smith is out and gushing blood. Violent, violent end. It was a wild right that knocked Smith down. Adlan Amagov wins by KO (punches), round 1.
Ronda Rousey vs. Julia Budd - Round 1 - Rousey charges forward and has Budd against the cage and now gets the takedown and is right to mount. Rousey moves to an armbar and it looks like Budd's elbow just dislocated. Wow. Ronda Rousey wins by technical submission (armbar), round 1.
Antwain Britt vs. Lumumba Sayers - Round 1 - They open up and Sayers opens up and he crushes Britt! Britt goes down hard! It's over, that was quick! Lumumba Sayers wins by TKO (punches), round 1. Under 30 seconds. Wow!
