Fight Matrix keeps track of some really cool MMA-related records. One of them just so happens to be the 'Most career wins without a loss' catagory...which of course only tracks active fighters who have currently not suffered a loss.
I for one think it's pretty darn cool when anyone can put together a solid streak of wins in their career without ever losing once. So I figured what the hell? Why not profile these guys a little bit, just for fun.
DISCLAIMER: This is, in fact, Fight Matrix's list...I just wanted to highlight the guys and give a bit more info about them...they chose to only include guys with at least 12 wins and 0 losses...so please don't be upset that "I" left certain guys out or didn't include someone like Jon Jones.
1. Khabib Nurmagomedov - 16-0-0 - UFC
He is a 23 year old Russian fighter recently signed by the UFC. He's a 3 time Sambo champion and is a solid up-and-coming addition to the UFC's already excellent lightweight division. He seems to have a solid distribution when it comes to method of victory. He's won 6 fights by knockout, 6 by submission, and 4 by decision.
2. Alexander Sarnavskiy - 15-0-0
A 22 year old Lightweight who is also Russian. He trains at RusFighters Sports Club, home of two-time Bellator tournament champion Alexander Shlemenko. He had a five fight stint with M-1 Global, but his last two fights were not with the promotion. As far as I know, none of the major MMA promotions have signed him...so he seems free for the picking. Overall, he's finished 13 of his 15 victories, 8 by submission and 5 by TKO.
3. Edinaldo Oliveira - 13-0-1 (1) - UFC
A 27 year old Brazilian Heavyweight. He is a training partner of Junior Dos Santos and has been signed to make his UFC debut at UFC 142 in Brazil. Of his 13 victories, he has finished 10...with 8 coming by knockout and 2 by submission. The Heavyweight division has always been known for being fairly shallow...so having a guy like him in the mix can't hurt at ll.
4. Bruno Santos - 12-0-0 - Bellator
A 24 year old Brazilian Middleweight. Fight Matrix lists him at 13-0 while Sherdog has him at 12-0. He was signed by Bellator back in September. He holds 1 win by submission, 1 win by TKO(corner stoppage) and 10 wins by Decision. He seems to be known as a ground and pound specialist and he won 3 fights in a one-night tournament back in June.
5. John Teixeira - 12-0-1
A 24 year old Brazilian Lightweight. As far as I can tell...he hasn't been picked up by any of the major promotions. As far as his fight distribution goes, he's scored 8 wins by submission, 1 by TKO, and 3 by decision.
6. Stanislav Nedkov - 12-0-0 - UFC
A 29 year old Bulgarian Light Heavyweight. He signed with the UFC last year, but injuries kept him out of multiple matchups, and out of action in general from May of 2010 to August of 2011. He finally made his UFC debut at UFC 134 against Luiz Cane...who he knocked out in the first round. He is next scheduled to meet Fabio Maldonado at UFC 142, again in Brazil. He holds 6 wins by knockout, 4 by submission and 2 by decision.
7. Rumen Dimitrov - 12-0-2
Another 29 year old Bulgarian, but this one fights at Middleweight. Curiously enough, his record is vitrually idential to the aforementioned Nedkov's. He has 6 wins by knockout, 4 by submission, and 2 by decision. He last competed in May of this year and seems to be flying under the radar of most of the major promotions...at least for now. He holds 2 bronze and 2 gold medals in Sambo
8. Paul Sass - 12-0-0 - UFC
A 23 year old British Lightweight currently competing in the UFC's Lightweight division. To say he is a submission specialist would be a bit of an understatement. 11 of his 12 wins have come by way of submission, with the remaining victory coming by decision. Of thos 11 submissions, 10 have come in the very first round. On top of that, he holds 8 victories by Triangle Choke and 3 by Heel Hook.
9. Joe Ellenberger - 12-0-0
A 26 year old American Lightweight who is UFC Welterweight Jake Ellenberger's brother. From what I understand, certain health issues kept him from debuting in the UFC before and caused him to be inactive for nearly 2 full years. He holds 7 wins by TKO, 2 by submission, and 2 by decision.
10. Travis Browne - 12-0-1 - UFC
A 29 year old American Heavyweight. He trains at Alliance MMA, home to the likes of Dominick Cruz and Brandon vera, but also does stints at Jackson's MMA. Overall, he owns 9 wins by knockout, 1 by submission, and 2 by decision. His last 4 fights have alternated between vicious first round knockouts and rather deflating decisions.
A 25 year old American Light Heavyweight. He went 5-0 in amateur boxing and 10-0 in amateur MMA before turning pro. Of his completely unblemished record, 8 wins have come via form of knockout and 4 by decision.
12. Jeremy Spoon - 12-0-0 - Bellator
An American Lightweight. He comes off as a BJJ stylist. 8 of his wins come by decision, 1 by knockout, and 3 by decision.
So there you have it, a little bit of info on Fight Matrix's tracked top 12 undefeated fighters.
I think it's worth mentioning that like most things MMA-related, Zuffa is fairly dominant even here. Of these 12 undefeated fighters, Zuffa has 5 of them(5 in the UFC, 1 in Strikeforce). Bellator is next in line with 2 fighters from the list. The rest of the 4 are not currently fighting for any of the major promotions.
