UFC on Fox 2 Expected for January 28th in Chicago
The UFC's winter schedule just got a whole lot busier. Yahoo Sports' Steve Cofield is reporting that the UFC is already planning their second UFC on Fox event, and it will emanate from the United Center in Chicago on January 28th:
Multiple sources confirm that Jan. 28 is the target for UFC on Fox 2 in Chicago at the United Center. That'll be followed by the Georges St-Pierre-Nick Diaz fight on Super Saturday in Las Vegas on Feb. 4.
No fights have been announced for the event yet, but this broadcast is expected to run longer than last weekend's Fox debut and feature more than just a single fight. Cofield also broke the news earlier that the first UFC Fight Night on FX will take place the week prior in Nashville. So in case you're wondering, here's what MMA fans can look forward to from the UFC over the next few months:
12/03/11: TUF 14 Finale (Las Vegas)
12/10/11: UFC 140 (Toronto)
12/30/11: UFC 141 (Las Vegas)
01/14/12: UFC 142 (Rio de Janeiro)
01/20/12: UFC Fight Night 26 on FX (Nashville)
01/28/12: UFC on Fox 2 (Chicago)
02/04/12: UFC 143 (Las Vegas)

Interesting strategy
They’re trying to fit in the gap where there’s no NFL games on that Sunday between Super Bowl and conference championship the week prior. I’d say that’s pretty smart.
I wonder if they’ll try to cram content in Feb and March to take advantage of the NBA lockout
I’ve been overwhelmed and I’ve been underwhelmed. Can I ever just be whelmed?
with 34 events over a 52 week span, I say they’re going to cram every month.

I would assume Bonnar would be on the card. The “Polish Experiment” will probably be on the show too appease the large Polish population in the city.
Torress? Guida?
I didnt look if they had fights scheduled, but these are Chicago area guys.
Torres and Bonnar
are both fighting this weekend.

I'm guessing we'll see Bart Palaszewski.

Other than the fact that they would be losing a HUGE PPV draw. I don’t see Silva-Sonnen II being on free tv especially after the lower PPV numbers this year.
I would bet my arm and leg
that Andy vs Sonny II will NOT be on free TV. That’ll be one of their biggest ppvs of the year.
Dear Zuffa and/or Fox,
Please call this card anything but “UFC on Fox 2.” A new set of running numbers for every different type of card has always been stupid and unnecessary, and switching networks gives you the chance to do something different, so please do it.
Thank you.

it's not that bad for PPV
but i agree it would be a more intriguing event for new viewers without the numbers. simplicity sells.

I hope they have some big names available,
it’s gonna take a solid main event to draw in big numbers again.

I'm guessing it's going to be some kind of light heavyweight main event.
With Rampage, Forrest, and Rashad all available, I’m guessing the main event will be some combination of those three.

Forrest and if Rich is back,
Rampage will most likely fight in Japan. Probably against Forrest Griffin actually. Although thats not set in stone and in all honesty, even though Forrest beat Rampage, he needs a step down in competition.
Please make it Rashad vs. Dan Henderson if he wins this weekend

I'd say Cruz/ Pegado... but I don't think Cruz's hand will be ready by then...
so I would have to think Rashad/Davis, and maybe Ellenberger/Alves to back it up.
the biggest time gap between fights is the 20 days between UFC 140 and UFC 141, and even then there is the Strikeforce 17 show
in a few years i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a major show literally every week
in a few years?
If you include Bellator, which might be a “major” promotion once they move to Spike, we basically have a card every weekend already. In a few years we’ll be watching Fight Nights on Wednesdays and PPVs/Cable Cards on Saturdays.
Was this broadcast confirmed as beign 2.5 hours?
But really, I think I’d be cool with at least 3 fights promised to broadcast live.
I mean, I don’t think 8.8 million people tuned into Cain vs JDS just because one or both of them are particular draws…the UFC name is strong, I think the marketing was strong….
The broadcasts peak during the live fights…could you imagine 3 fights, at least one of them a war? The ratings could be insane.
