UFC Announces First FX Show For January, Two Fights Booked

The UFC has yet to announce a date or location, but on Wednesday, they confirmed their first event on FX will be in January 2012 and have already booked two fights.

Fresh off a second-round TKO win over Keith Wisniewski in his October UFC return, Josh Neer will battle fellow veteran Duane Ludwig, who pounded out a unanimous decision win over Amir Sadollah in mid-August.

Neer (32-10-1) is on a five-fight winning streak, having spent the better part of the past two years in both Bellator and regional action after being cut by the UFC, while Ludwig (21-11) is riding a two-fight win streak after consecutive losses in his latest Zuffa stint.

In a must-win fight, Pat Barry has been booked against Christian Morecraft. Barry (6-4) has lost two in a row and four of his last six. Morecraft (7-2) is coming off a knockout loss to Barry friend/training partner Matt Mitrione in June. The 25-year-old is 1-2 in his UFC career.

UFC didn't announce whether these are main card fights or the soon-to-be Fuel prelims.

No. No he isn't.

What’s his best win – Beltran? Okay. Everyone else he’s beaten is currently out of the UFC. He’s also got a loss to Tim Hague. TIM HAGUE.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

I always found Anthony Hardonk to be a solid mid-tier Heavyweight, and Barry beat him. I would argue that Hardonk is Barry’s best win.

Must be that huge win over Sean McCorkle that has you so confident that Morecraft can win that fight…

Yea maybe but Ive found that of recent the bigger name fights have sucked while the up and coming scrappers are entertaining.

by nsiegel on Nov 16, 2011 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

ok buddy then how about the insignificant guys that are fighting for their lives and paychecks that are just there to scrap

by nsiegel on Nov 16, 2011 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not sure which fights you're referring to

Because sometimes they turn into ugly messes like K-Sos vs. Goran Reljic.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

by SSreporters on Nov 16, 2011 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

my point is that a lot of times the main event sucks and the lower tier fighters that are there with nothing to loss are a lot more entertaining

by nsiegel on Nov 16, 2011 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

well there are what 12 fights on a card?

so your saying out of 11 not main event fights at least one is better?

dat dunt mak no cents

Im saying that the main event fights of late tend to be a let down. Sometimes its more entertaining to watch lesser known or lesser caliber fighters that put on an entertaining show

by nsiegel on Nov 16, 2011 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

Which main events are those?

JDS’ epic 64 second KO win? The fantastically fun Munoz/Leben scrap? Or Nick Diaz’s career performance against BJ Penn?

Kind of funny, Neer vs Ludwig could have happened anytime in the last 15 years.

Neer v Ludwig does nothing for me...

both guys could have been put against Prospects, or higher ranked guys coming off a loss. A win for either guy here does nothing really for their career… they will be a gatekeeper before, and after. Could have matched either guy with Brenneman, Carlos Rocha, Che Mills, TJ Waldburger, John Hathaway, Mike Pierce, or Paulo Thiago. For some of these guys it would be a prospect making the next logical jump in competition, or at least for Neer/Ludwig a match with some of the more experienced guys would give them a chance to raise their stature.

So

You only watch MMA for divisional relevance? I can see that to a point, but these guys are pretty skilled, and this fight should be awesome.

Likely one of the big reasons that Fox is putting so much programming on Fuel

More money for them when it’s widely available on the basic package.

Does this mean there will not be an event on Fox in January, like it was originally discussed?
