Forrest Griffin - Complaints Are the New Compliments

Having watched Forrest Griffin since his early days on season 1 of Ultimate Fighter, Forrest has come off as a bit of a clown but a pretty nice and likeable guy,  However, he apparently caused quite a stink with his recent tweet where he decried "Rape is the new missionary"

In light of the criticism, Forrest has manned up and made a donation to the Las Vegas Rape Crisis Center.

My question is:who is in the wrong? Forrest, who was simply commenting on the many high-profile rape cases that have been on the news recently, or those who were offended by his social commentary?

Sure, Forrest may have posted his tweet without any earlier related commentary, but considering the randomness of social media such as Twitter, was it necessary to explain himself before posting his tweet?

Forrest is simply the victim of being heard by a small group of overly-sensitive people. For these people, freedom of speech is only okay as long as it follows their small set of rules for decency.

God Bless America.

1. you have absolutely no idea what freedom of speech actually means. learn about it before you comment about it.
2. forrest is not now, nor has he ever been, funny.
3. yes, all MMA fans are overly sensitive, easily offended, little girls. seriously?
4. generic statements made about rape, without context, will be interpreted as being inappropriate.

Seriously. I wish Barton was around. He banned the last guy I saw misuse that damned term.

So banning someone for what they say is defending freedom of speech somehow? What the hell?

I'm pretty sure he banned him for being an idiot.

It was just his absolutely wrong idea of what freedom of speech was that proved he was an idiot.

Forrest is actually kind of a jerk on repeated occasions. I’ve never thought of him as a “nice” guy.

If by small group you mean vast majority, and by overly-sensitive you mean reasonably pissed, then yes, I agree with you.

I think the problem is

Something on twitter/internet can be construed in so many different ways depending on the mood/personality of the reader.
