Jon Jones Says Rashad Evans Ducked UFC 140 Fight
When Jon Jones pulled out of the initially planned bout with Rashad Evans for a hand injury that he and his camp originally claimed would require surgery, only to not have any procedure done and take a fight with Quinton Jackson instead, many people (myself included) said that the way things broke down made Jones look like he had ducked Evans. Now, the tables have (kind of) been turned and Jones accepted the fight for UFC 140 only to have Evans say that a hand injury will have him unable to fight on the card.
Now, Jones is doing the very savvy thing and telling MMA Fighting that Rashad is now the one doing the ducking:
Did you tell the UFC that since Evans wasn't ready to fight in December that you would rather wait a month or two to fight him so you can finally put this beef behind you?
Well, Dana White basically needed someone to save 140. I didn't necessarily want to fight at 140, but because it was Rashad, I said, 'You know what? I would take the fight in nine weeks.' I'm already in shape. I already know what I want to do. Rashad, predicting that I would say no, he kind of kicked himself in the butt because I said yes, he turns around and says, 'Oh, I didn't expect Jon to say yes. I don't want to fight him that soon.' So in reality, he's kind of the one who's ducking the fight. I feel like he's ducking the fight.
Rashad put himself in a dumb position by swearing up and down that he could fight at 140 and then, once the fight is offered, saying he can't get cleared. Jones is doing exactly the right thing in terms of handling it in the media.
He was made to look bad previously, and now he has flipped it and giving it right back.
How disappointed I am in not seeing Evans/Jones finally is totally separate from how happy I am to see Jon be aggressive in the media.

Turnabout is fair play I guess
This whole situation is more than a little bizarre.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
The situation is completely different.
He claimed to have a torn ligament in his hand, an injury that has supposedly been around since his junior college days. If that’s true, then he needed to have surgery to correct it, and that’s what he claimed he needed. Instead, a month after the fact, he claims that it “got better” and he fought just a month and a half after Rashad’s fight.
In this case, Rashad’s doctor claims that he needs three weeks to rehab the hand injury, so it’s unlikely that he would have cleared him in time to train for the fight.

I'm not comparing them
The Jones hand situation was weird, and the whole Rashad bait-and-switch for Jones next fight was weird. They might have been weird in different ways, but the whole thing has gotten really strange. I frankly don’t think either guy is “ducking” in the way that PBF is ducking PacMan (troof) but rather that they seem to just enjoy fucking with each other, and the UFC seems happy to let the tensions between the two of them simmer.

Jones was told by several doctors he needed surgery. It was only when he went in for the surgery that the surgeon himself told him he’d be better off without it at this point.

The injury also DIDNT effect his striking or grappling

And?
He was given multiple opinions saying he should get the surgery. He didn’t want to get it initially BECAUSE it wasn’t affecting his striking or grappling. And he didn’t get the surgery as soon as he was given a medical opinion that he could go without it.
The timeline is "interesting" is all I'm saying

Clearly it DID affect his striking and/or grappling
Otherwise, how would he have known it was injured?

I look forward to getting back to training and to my first title defense. As for Rashad, let’s see what happens with Phil Davis. I will be watching that fight with great interest

You can't take everything as pure fact
It’s like Chael Sonnen. People will say things that make no sense, and are not true, just for the sake of saying them. Chael just does it very frequently, but there are many instances where a fighter says something they didn’t mean.
Business as Usual has a STACKED team. I mean, we could win with just me, but you know.
So he didn't mean he was injured
Or he didn’t mean it effected his striking and grappling?
Really, I’m not huge on the Jones ducked Rashad story, just making a point that the way things played out is a little conspicuous. I think it was Fagan who did the article that was something like “Jones doesn’t have to be ducking Rashad to look like he’s ducking him”. And I think that’s really accurate. His story could very well be one hundred percent legit. But the story and the timeline appear very suspicious.

I meant about it not affecting his striking and grappling.
Maybe it didn’t make him want to throw everything. He could still punch and all, but maybe certain grips and whatnot would cause him to be wary, to prevent further damage.
Business as Usual has a STACKED team. I mean, we could win with just me, but you know.
I'm growing kind of weary of all this...
And I typically LOVE drama. I’m just going to defer my attention to the sick ass fights that are going down tomorrow night with hardly any beef between the combatants.

They will eventually fight. Unless Machida throws a monkey wrench into the plans.
If Rashad is legit hurt, then he isn’t ducking anyone, could just be a case of thinking he was going to heal up faster than he really is.
Who knows and who really cares at this point. The bitching back and forth is getting old quick.

Same could be said about the previous cancelled fight when JBJ was hurt. Didn’t stop people from saying JBJ was ducking shad.

Except when the positions were reversed, absolutely no one thought that JBJ wasnt ducking Rashad. Which of course was an absurd thought to begin with, as I cant imagine what Rashad could possibly offer to even remotely threaten Jones, let alone beat him.
Dude said he needed surgery, then suddenly didn’t need it anymore once Rashad signed to fight Davis. I’m not saying he ducked him, but it sure as hell looks that way. This isn’t the same situation.

Having an elective surgery...
yeah the doctors pretty much forced Jones to schedule an elective surgery and then cancel it.

Check out this site for discount MMA gear.
The circumstances surrounding Jones withdrawal from the original fight seemed suspicious. As he was supposed to have surgery, then didn’t have surgery. Once Rashad was scheduled to fight Davis, all of a sudden Jones is fighting Rampage…?
Very odd circumstances, this time it doesn’t seem as strange.

Does Jones have managment?
It would do Jones dividends in the PR department if he would shut the hell up for a while. When no one can figure out why he is exactly disliked…but everyone can agree it has something to do with his ego/cockiness…things like this do not help.
He needs to drop off the radar for a while (a good while) and figure out how to not get beaten by the Batman of the MMA world.

Jones has more people who like him than don't.
There is a very vocal minority — a very few people overall — who do not like him and mostly they’re on a handful of internet sites and living in echo chambers. Most people who watch MMA like Jones. He doesn’t need to change — you all do. And what you need to change are your hopes and expectations: He’s here to stay and he’s going to be on top for the next 5 or 6 years until MMA is so big that all the athletes are of his caliber. Then he’ll be dethroned, but not before.
Deal with it.

Amen
I feel like that’s the case with almost everything in MMA. The minority of haters are always the loudest on the internet forums.
Jones has become one of my favorite fighters. Besides Anderson Silva, he’s the only fighter that feels truly special to watch (and I love GSP, but it’s not the same).
Jones is 24, a world champion, and the future face of the UFC. I personally don’t find him cocky, I see him as a kid still trying to learn to be in the spotlight and give interviews. But given how young and good he is, he can be the cockiest person on the planet and I won’t care as long as he stays hungry and keeps improving.

Rewatch some of GSP's old fights
The aggression and domination is similar to what Jones is doing now. Like his total demolition of Trigg. It was only after half-murdering BJ that he started playing it safe.
Most of my friends, who are casual fans, love Bones.
They don’t really catch the interviews and the BS that makes me not like Bones. All they see of him is the short promos and his dominant in-cage performance, so they’re Bones fans.

fighters are born, not made.
The amount of athletes that are fighters is small amount. THere is never going to be a huge influx of super athletes. Jones is a wrestler. This has been one of the very few professional outlets for wrestlers for quite awhile now. Notice how the entire usa Olympic team still isn’t signed to the UFC? This isn’t for everyone. That isn’t going to change. Money will help, but its doubtful there are going to college scholarships given for mma like the other sports. Thus less focus on it early in life.

He basically called Evans’ bluff. Evans was saying crap like ’he’ll fake an inujury to get out of fighting me’ he didn’t think Evans would take the 140 fight, he does, and now Evans is hurt…so screw him.
I’ve never liked Evans and it will be fantastic to see him get destroyed by Jones.
Also, you’ll find out just how badly Evans wants to fight Jones if Jones loses to Machida and Evans starts barking with all that ’I’m the #1 contender and should fight for the title’ BS.
Evans shouldn’t have waited for the Shogun title shot…we all knew it was bad then…and the ripples are continuing to this day.

Why would Evans do that? Is there even the slightest indication that Rashad would do even one iota better against MAchida this time around? Rashad could improve his performance 100% from the first time around and that would still only get him a lopsided decision loss.
He used the worst gameplan possible.
Any kind of change to the way he approached the rematch would give him a better performance. He even says Greg Jackson told him to stand with Machida.

Point taken. I STRONGLY DISLIKED Evans based on his actions in the octagon against Forrest. I STRONGLY, INTENSELY DISLIKE Jon Jones based on his faux humility and other outside of the octagon nonsense. It's for controlling range, I remember I had looked at this for the Shogun fight
Times he uses the push kick:
1:37 of 1st: pushes Shogun into the fence, Shogun wings a right hook that comes up short
1:18 of 1st: pushes Shogun before attacking with punches
:56 of 1st: pushes Shogun to fence before retreating
4:46 of 2nd: pushes Shogun back as he was advancing back after the front kick to the body
3:54 of 2nd: pushes Shogun back, Shogun throws a left that comes up short
3:33 of 2nd: Shogun coming in for power combo, push kick keeps range, both punches come up short
3:04 of 2nd: I’ll let you guess how this turned out
4:52 of 3rd: HOLY COW IT’S LEGAL TO DEFEND AGAINST THESE, Shogun checks it for no effect
4 of the 8 times he threw it, Shogun immediately came up short with a strike(s).
If that’s not effectiveness, I don’t know what is, and Shogun didn’t blow out his knee.

That's interesting.
I understand that he’s using them to control range. Anderson Silva does the same thing. Point taken. That doesn’t make the kick any less dangerous. Proper footwork and a good, established jab is a much more effective way to control range. But that requires more technical acumen than simply stomping at a guy’s knee.
Plus – (and this is total bias on my part), Shogun’s poor knees are so fuckin jacked, what kind of shitheel targets them?

It's a shitty thing to do and they should be illegal.
It’s an attack specifically intended to destroy somebody’s knee. I know, it’s a fight, but would you want to go up against somebody who is legitimately trying to destroy your joints? And you can’t compare it to a submission, because you can at least tap to a submission. What are you supposed to say about knee kicks? “This guy is kicking me in the knee and I can’t do anything about it. I quit.” It’s no fair, for anybody to do.
No.
It’s an attack specifically intended to stop your opponent’s forward motion, and give him something else to watch for everytime he moves to strike. It’s not some new, super deadly technique. A lot of the most skilled strikers in the game use it. Where are all these blown out knees you’re talking about? What do you think getting KO’d does to the brain?

No you are wrong, a push kick is to maintain distance, that is its purpose. Front kicks to the knee are thought as a self defense move to blow out the person’s joint. Actually you do not have to be a skilled striker to use it, its a simple stomp on someones knee upper leg in an attempt to hyper extend it.
It has only become semi regular move in the past 2 or so years (Anderson, Jones, Condit, and Vera). If this becomes a common practice you will see a few careers cut short due to destroyed legs. Its pointless to say “where are the blown out kees,? show me” because the attack was not very common up until recently. Be ignorant to the crippling intent of this move is the same as the concussion epidemic in sports, try to band aid it once it has done it damage, but it will be too late then.
I’d rather just climb this fridge
It's plenty common, just not in MMA until recently.
It’s also legal. And it isn’t a simple stomp on the knee. You have to catch your opponent flat footed, with great timing, or all you’ve done is lost your own balance and left yourself wide open. I’ve never said it’s not dangerous, only that it’s no more dangerous than a myriad of other techniques. Saying it’s only purpose is to blow out your opponent’s knee is just wrong. If you’re good enough to use it, it’s a check on your opponent’s forward motion, and also keeps them from standing there planted trying to throw bombs. If a guy’s knee is flexed, the joint is extremely strong, and he’s not in any particular danger. Banning it is a favor to guy’s who are slow, plodding and not versed in an offensive nor defensive kicking game. If you don’t like it, fine. Knee attacks scare the hell out of me as well. But acting like it’s dirty, or outrageously beyond the bounds of what happens in this sport on a daily basis is just wrong IMO. Interesting that I heard no complaints about it until Jon starting using it. When it was Guy Metzger all the way to Anderson, Carlos, etc., I didn’t hear a peep.

It's no different than a groin strike or an eye gouge
Except they’re probably less likely to lead to a career ending injury.
An eye gouge is at least as likely.
Look how fortunate Belcher was to even be able to come back. Knee surgeries are routine. Shogun’s knees have been shredded about as badly as it gets, and they’ve been able to keep him in there. At no point have I argued that knee strikes aren’t dangerous, just not egregiously so in context of the sport we’re talking about. Of course, you’re missing the main difference, which is that one of the three is legal, the other two aren’t. I don’t hear any call to ban suplexes, despite the potential for a spinal injury which would make any knee injury look like nothing. And again, I heard nothing about this at all until Jon in particular starting landing these kicks. Now it’s the dirty move in all of sports. Okay.

Hate straight kicks to the kneas?
Do you hate fighting as well? This is a fight not let’s try to not hurt your oponnent. Are strikes to the head less dangerous? I believe they could potentially be more dangerous we all know long and short term effects such as concussions from repeated blows ko’s tko’s. It’s a fight and fighters get into the cage knowing the rules and potential harm.

Isn’t getting kicked in the head(i.e. Crocop’d) like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat? I guess head kicks should be banned too. That can lead to a hell of a lot worse than an injured knee.

Jones is a great, yet dirty fighter. I hate those push kicks and if he wanted to control distance it would be better served to push kick the guy in the stomach. The push kick to the knee only controls distance because it makes a fi8ghter fear getting his knee blown out.
Jones gripped Shogun across the forehead and got very close to gripping him through the eyes. In the same fight he clearly elbowed Rua in the throat twice. When he fought Hammil he got mad because his elbows were not getting through the way he wanted so he went to the illegal elbows. In the page fight he kept his finge3rs extended and in Page’s face all night, even poking him once. He looked to have kneed jackson in the groin two or three times during the fight.
Jones is a great fighter, but i can’t stand him because of the dirty things he does in the cage. I for one hope somebody front kicks his legs and he hears a pop. Not an injury pop, just one to give him a scare.
I’d rather just climb this fridge
Kick the stomach?
Why do that when it would take more time to do? When he could do a perfectly LEGAL move like kick the knea? It’s fine to be a hater but grasping at things like this and only calling him out and not other fighters is ludacris. His fingers extended is him finding range. Elbowing throat if you think all strikes are 100% accurate your wrong. As far as Hamel I’m sure he didn’t do it on purpose y would he want a dq? Hate the guy but be logical about it.

Just one question
Rashad, predicting that I would say no, he kind of kicked himself in the butt because I said yes, he turns around and says, ‘Oh, I didn’t expect Jon to say yes. I don’t want to fight him that soon.’
Do we have any confirmation other than Jones word that Rashad actually did this? I don’t remember seeing or hearing Rashad make such a statement, that he would be able to fight at 140 and then take it back. Until Dana or Rashad himself confirms it, I’m not going to simply trust Jones on it, sorry.
Personally I think it’s obvious that Rashad isn’t ducking Jones here, but it’s OK for Jones to make such a claim of course. Rashad could just as easy say that Jones is the one doing the ducking for taking the Machida fight instead of waiting another month to fight Rashad. So it’s whatever.
I’m fine with the situation though, great to see Jones back in action so soon, and especially against Machida. Sucks for Rashad, but that’s the way she goes.
No, I just searched the SB Nation archive real quick
and only White announced Jones Evans for 140…
"No man dies for what he knows to be true. Men die for what they want to be true, for what some terror in their hearts tells them is not true."
Okay, yeah, that’s what I thought. Maybe it’s true, who knows, but I’m not going to just trust Jones on it without getting some other source for it, that’s for sure.
by Horselover Fat on Oct 7, 2011 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions
Wait
Now we’re requiring confirmation to claim someone is ducking someone? Since when has evidence played a role in this?
Not afraid to nitpick
I don’t understand what you mean. I was just asking if there is some other source than Jones that has said that Evans claimed to be ready to fight at 140, only to turn it down once Jones accepted it.
by Horselover Fat on Oct 7, 2011 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions
Well "facts" and "logic" don't seem to come into play when Rashad claims Jones is ducking him, so why change now?
For example: this sequence would have happened for Jones to duck Rashad:
-Rashad beats Jones in practice repeatedly, making Jones scared of fighting him on the real stage
-Jones/Rashad are at Jackson’s, which has the pact of never fighting teammates, so Jones is cool he’ll never have to fight him!
-Jones, knowing that if he stuck to the program that he’d never have to fight Rashad, says he’d fight Rashad despite being scared of him
Somehow that equals ducking him.
Not afraid to nitpick
That's not the part that make people claim he's ducking Rashad. At all.

No it's not, the hand injury that was confirmed by doctors which got better (which never ever ever happens!) is yes
But that sequence would have had to happen. How much sense does that make?
Not afraid to nitpick
Look, the only relevant thing as to why Jones would have ducked Rashad is this. They were going to fight, then Jones comes out with a statement that he was going to have elective surgery on a sore thumb that had been bothering him for years, yet not affecting his striking or grappling. Rashad gets a fight booked and signed with Davis instead, and a week after that happens, Jones comes back and says “hey look, I didn’t have to get surgery after all! But I guess I can’t fight Rashad now since he has a fight already. Oh well.”
If that doesn’t look even a little suspicious to you, then fine. But you should be able to understand why other fans will question it.
by Horselover Fat on Oct 7, 2011 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions
I get it
And then you think for two seconds and it makes sense. Again, Jones is afraid to fight Rashad and then purposefully screws up the situation in which he’d never have to fight Rashad? Sure.
Not afraid to nitpick
Anyone who thinks a pro fighter is scared to fight someone is absurd to begin with.
They may know it’s not in their best interests, or that they may not win… But they’re not going to be scared to fight.

Okay
Hypothetically: Jon Jones did not want to fight Rashad. This is the assumption you have to make in order for it to be anywhere plausible for Jones to duck Rashad. This means that Jones could have easily played the teammate card that every Jackson’s fighter has pulled, and he wouldn’t ever have to fight Rashad. Instead, Jones says he would fight Rashad for the title, therefore setting up a fight with Rashad.
How much sense does that make?

Easy: he was stalemated totally on the feet by an undersized Bisping in a fight I believe he lost (and Rashad fans just like to casually pretend never happened), he was stalemated by the zombie corpse of Chuck Liddell and was getting utterly housed by Forrest for every second of that fight before landing his one offensive weapon in each (his big right hand), he was a fence grab away from losing to Tito, he was in serious trouble in the 3rd against both Thiago and Rampage, and got completely and comprehensively demolished the one time he fought a truly high level striker. Anything else?
Wow, talk about sensationalism. There is a little bit of truth in what you wrote, but it’s just done in such a distasteful way to make Rashad look worse than he is.
Bisping was almost 4 years ago, if you think The Count could beat him now, I’d laugh. Stalemated by Chuck Liddell is fucking hilarious, he damn near murdered Chuck. It’s like when Mir bored everyone to death against Cro Cop and somehow they all forgot he knocked him unconscious at the end of the fight. He was losing against Forrest, but he won in the end, that’s all that matters. Just like Spider/Sonnen. He just beat the fuck out of Tito to get revenge for his draw with him earlier in his career. Thiago he outwrestled until he gassed in the 3rd round, and despite a scare, got his win. Rampage he dropped in the FIRST SECONDS OF THE FIGHT. And continued to dominate him until he put himself in a bad position in the 3rd round, which lasted for about 10-15 seconds until he was back in top position securing the win. Anything else?

Forrest for every second of that fight before landing his one offensive weapon in each (his big right hand),
Because TKO’s against champions don’t count if you were losing the fight up to it.
he was a fence grab away from losing to Tito
Who was also a takedown away from losing that round.
he was in serious trouble in the 3rd against both Thiago and Rampage
Because getting in trouble versus high level fighters means you’re not actually good. Even if you beat them.
comprehensively demolished the one time he fought a truly high level striker.

I honestly think that Jones would run through him like a hot knife through butter but anyone at this point who’s trying to pretend that Rashad’s not a elite-level LHW at this point is just living in a fantasy world.

You don't know what you're talking about.
He told Jon to take the title shot. He spoke to him before the Shogun fight, and right after his own knee injury had been confirmed. What caused the rift in the first place was that Jon was asked if he’d fight Rashad. Jon replied that he would if the UFC wanted him to, but only for the title. That’s what set Rashad off, the fact that Jon would give him a title shot, and that Jon hadn’t asked Rashad first before making the offer. It’s common knowledge at this point.

The narrative is just getting flat hijacked by the haters. All of a sudden both an occasional foul and perfectly legit techniques are the end of the world, when they were never anyone’s big concern until Jon came along.

Ya, this is getting stupid now, please stop with the bull, and just fight, you have said enough to promote 20 fights. I just don’t care.

These guys are trained killers
Nobody is scared or is ducking anyone. Jones wants to smash Evans just as much as Evans wants to smash Jones and get his belt back. This entire discussion has been silly since day 1.

I'm not sure if I'm annoyed or amused.
You ever see two guys drunk outside a bar, too scared to fight eachother, but they keep jaw jacking because their girlfriends are watching?
“What you gunna do about it?”
“Gimmie a reason.”
“Two hits- me hitting you, you hitting the floor!”
“Sit your five dollar ass down before I make change.”
“You’re lucky my thumb ligament is messed up.”
“You’re lucky I just had these screws taken out.”
Awkward stare ensues. By the way, I hope more than anything Rashad comes into the cage after Jones wins, and then they give the title shot to Hendo.

Its weird
Tito looked way taller than Rashad when they fought. It says that Tito is 6’ 2" and Rashad is 5’ 11" and Jon Jones is 6’ 4"?!?!?! Some one is lying about their height because They look almost the same height even though Jones is a listed as a half a foot taller than Rashad.

Brent, I enjoy your articles BUT
Source???
Rashad put himself in a dumb position by swearing up and down that he could fight at 140 and then, once the fight is offered, saying he can’t get cleared. Jones is doing exactly the right thing in terms of handling it in the media.

Where?
Where, other than Jones saying so, did Rashad say he would fight at 140? Sounds like people bought what Jones sold, hook line and sinker. Rashad was never going to or thought he would have to fight at 140. This is a last minute decision because the UFC didn’t have a fight for the card. Jones is playing people right now, and I would have done the same thing.
By time Rashad gets this fight, he (could be) so mentally beaten by waiting so long that he chokes. This is Art of War stuff.
If your not ready to fight shut your $@&%ING mouth! - BJ Penn
Well the rumor was first that Rashad/Jones was going to be at 140
So it changing to Jones/Machida will lend some credibility to the fact that they were trying to make that fight happen first, but couldn’t(for the reason Jones stated).
Yeah, I couldn't find any news about Rashad mentioning 140 in the archive...
Not meaning to be disrespectful here, but I think the article packs more punch with that particular storyline. Maybe Brent had other sources? I don’t know…
"No man dies for what he knows to be true. Men die for what they want to be true, for what some terror in their hearts tells them is not true."
He's playing the game now, and he's lying
He took an early fight because he knew Rashad wouldn’t be ready. Smart. Now he’s turning it around on Rashad and trying to make it seem like he’s the one avoiding the fight. All while concurrently, making himself a hero to the fans and the Dana by taking the fight short notice, and giving himself a chance to beat 3 legends in one year.
Well played Mr. Jones

Evans played you.
Not Jones. You think Evans wanted to fight Jones. LOL. What caused the beef in the first place? Jones saying he would fight Evans. Now why would that make Evans mad? Think about it. If Evans thought he could beat Jones, why would he care if Jones were willing to fight him? And if Jones were scared to fight Evans, why would he be the one to say sure, he’d fight him for the belt?
You guys got played.
"If you say Chael Sonnen I will light you on fire." -- Farthammer.
He was mad because he was asked first if he would fight Jones and he said no because they are teammates. Evans even went so far to say he would be happy being second best in the division.
Shortly after Jones is asked the same question and despite the fact that they are teammates and “brothers” he said he would fight. It makes Rashad look bad because it makes him look like a lair when he wasn’t. Jacson has said a number of times that he would not train two of his stable members to fight one another, and he passes that on to them making them not want to fight one another.
I know you love Jones and all, but at least use logic every now and then.
I’d rather just climb this fridge
I don't think Rashad's knee was really hurt.
He ducked the Rua fight, for sure. He can’t beat Rua. He knows he can’t beat Jones. He’s just buying time while he cuts down to 185 and starts fighting there. I predicted he’d run out of the division and duck Jones. He’s ducked Jones, now watch his next fight be at 185.

I like Rashad.

"If you say Chael Sonnen I will light you on fire." -- Farthammer.
Jones nuked Evans
Nuked him. Evans demanded the 140 fight to try to make Jones ask for more time and look like a bitch but Jones said "Lets Mutherfukers!" so Rashad backed out. It is what it is. I don’t blame Rashad — he can’t beat Jones and he knows it. He was mad at Jones for saying he’d be willing to fight Evans, so he’s stuck around to needle Jones for a bit, but when push comes to shove, there’s no way on Earth he’s gonna get in the cage with Jones.
"If you say Chael Sonnen I will light you on fire." -- Farthammer.
Rashad never asked for 140
Jones made that part up.

I dont get how Jones believes Evans is ducking him
As of this week, Evans still has pins in his hand. Wont be off for a bit and that would leave him exactly 8 weeks til the 140 card. Evans just isnt ready to properly rehab and train for this fight.
That equates ducking Jones? Man, he seriously is delusional and, as seen in this thread, so are his nuthuggers.

I don't think he actually thinks Rashad is ducking him
He was mostly bragging about how he called Rashad’s bluff and is saying he’s ducking him just for turnabout.
Okay, I think I figured it out
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans either were or are teammates, right?
In reality, they’re best friends. As best friends, they’re NEVER going to fight each other.
So, you have 2 elite fighters, 2 of the top 3 or 4 or 5 fighters in their division, who are never going to fight, how do you promote them?
Easy, by having them constantly talk shit to each other. Keep “scheduling” the fight, just to have something happen to keep it from actually occuring. You get to keep hyping the rivalry, getting media exposure, building each fighters profile. Each guy can take turns being the “bad guy”, the one who keeps the fight from happening, the other gets to go on the offensive and promote himself as the unbeatable guy that the other is scared of.
In the end, you get constant hype, two superstar fighters who sell tons of PPV’s and generate even more fan interest for the fight between two friends thats never going to happen.

There is absolutely no interview, quote, source, or annoucnemnt that I or anyone else has found that has Rashad “swearing up and down” that he could fight at 140. It’s just simply not true, at all.
