Bellator Announces Hector Lombard - Trevor Prangley For November
While the rumors were that Renato 'Babalu' Sobral would be the next opponent for Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard, Bellator announced Lombard's next opponent Tuesday and while the fighter does have UFC experience, it's not him.
The 33-year-old Lombard will face Trevor Prangley in the main event of Bellator 58 on November 18 at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL. The bout will be a non-title catchweight fight at 195 pounds and is the only announced match-up on the card thus far.
Lombard (30-2-1-1) is undefeated in his last 24 fights and became Bellator's 185-pound champion with a 4th round TKO of Jared Hess in June 2009. Since then, he has competed four times for the promotion but has only defended the title once. He also currently holds two other championships for smaller promotions.
The 39-year-old Prangley (23-8-1) has just one win in his last five fights (1-3-1) with all three losses coming in the 1st round. He has only lost by T/KO twice in his career and both were due to knees to the body.
All but one of Lombard's seven Bellator fights have ended in T/KO.

Prangley is a journeyman.
Give the man his props.

Trevor Prangley is a can?
I thought BE members were held to a higher standard than this.

Wikipedia says he signed to EliteXc right before they went down in flames. Does anyone know why he didn’t go over to Strikeforce with the rest of them?
I'm not Hauser, I'm Quaid!
Prangley or Lombard?
Because I’m pretty sure Prangley had some fights with SF.

Whoops, sorry, you meant Lombard I think
I don’t know, maybe certain aspects of the deal kept it from being picked up by SF…di SF acquire all of the EliteXC contracts?

I don't think so
I think the EliteXC fighters had a choice to go with SF or not.
Lombard also signed with the UFC back in 2005/2006 ish
He had visa issues that prevented him from coming over. Or at least that was the excuse at the time.

Dammit, the idea of him moving up a weight class and fighting Babalu was a really good one
I mean first, moving between weight classes help to show your quality when your level of competition is low.
Also, Babalu I think is at like #20 in the consensus #25 rankings. He is miles more legitimate then Trevor Prangley.
It’s like Bellator isn’t even trying.
Whatever circumstances necessary, I hope they occur and Bellator folds.

and would u rather see Lombard fighting Jardine than Babalu? Babalu at least posses some stylistics threats, even if I think he would get smashed. Jardine has no way to win this. The simple idea looks painful for me.

They're both quite a bit chinny these days
what’s Maiquel Falcao up to? There’s an option right there that might produce some fireworks.

Anyone else here rooting for a Prangley win just so we can stop hearing about Lombard and his easy matchups?

wins title in june 2009
and only one title defense, thats fucking bullshit.
and superfights ( well thats what bellator call them ) suck
super fights are for outside talent trying to beat the champs
Remember in bellator in order to get a title shot youb have to win a tourney. Good idea in theory, terrible irl.

It's not bs,
it’s just the sad reality for Bellator, as all the best middleweights (and most of the decent ones after that) are under contract with Zuffa. A matchup with Trevor Prangley just shows that Bellator is really, really running out of guys for their champions to fight. This will be the major struggle for any promotion that must provide consistent content to satisfy a U.S. TV deal. Rebney’s claims that his champions are the best in the world are laughable at best.

Prangley is cool and all
But the dude just got knocked out by Mizuno…
Pretty sure the only requirements Bellator is looking for is somewhat of a name and a solid looking record.
WAR Chris Lytle!
Lombard has to get out of Bellator if he wants to be taken seriously
Beating journeymen is not going to get him recognition.
Sounds like a tough fight.
The 39-year-old Prangley (23-8-1) has just one win in his last five fights (1-3-1) with all three losses coming in the 1st round.
Next in line for the Bellator Middleweight Title shot is Milan Park 7th-grader Marcus Conroy. This will be Marcus’ debut at Middleweight with his last two fights being at 113 pound catchweight at home against his older brother Reginald (14). Marcus is 0-4 lifetime against Reginald but is looking to turn things around against whomever wins on November 18th. Said Marcus, “I’m looking forward to my shot at the Bellator Middleweight Title and it don’t matter to me who’s got it when I get there. I want that belt!”

Imo a Champion should never fight without the belt on the line unless
It’s in a different weight class.

Wow, I’ve been a major Bellator homer for a while but this really is sort of too much. They really seem like they’re just biding their time and hoping they exist long enough to get a decent offer from UFC or get rescued by a TV deal. They hold their cards on Saturday nights when they know they’ll only catch an audience that’s too lazy to reach for the remote. Their champs in general sit idle except for the occasional non-title matchup. At least the tournament fights in the lower weight classes tend to be competitive and exciting, but really, anyone can put on those tournaments and find a 250-seat auditorium to hold them in.

This is appalling
feeding a dude who only has 1 win in his last 5 to a guy on a 19 fight win streak? Seriously?!

Don't shit on Prangley
His record hasn’t been good lately, but he’s a better fighter than his record shows. This is more of a test for Lombard than he’s had in ages.
He’s probably the best fighter, other than Mousasi, that Lombard has ever faced.

Lately?!
He hasn’t beat anyone worth mentioning since UFC 54. It’s unacceptable, this isn’t Japan.

Highlight reels don't make themselves!
You guys are being way too hard on em here. Think of the highlights!
--When you saw only one set of footprints, it was Herb Dean who carried you.
Everyone is shitting on Bellator/Lombard… but honestly, who else is there for him to fight, that isn’t signed by the UFC/Strikeforce?
Marquardt signed with BAMMA and isn’t gonna sign long twrm with anyone, so why would bellator sign him. With a chance of him beating lomard and then going back to UFC.
Khalidov seems just as content to fight easy fights overseas as Lombard is content to fight in Bellator.
Until Lombard desideds to give up the EASY cash in exchange for trying to improve his legacy, then we should just sit back and enjoy the 1 sided beat downs

Lombard...
Is a bully, with no respect for training partners, and as far removed from a “martial artist” as a cagefighter could be.
No class, prone to rage outbursts – i wonder why… -, and a chip the size of Cuba on his shoulder.
Has some skills, would never be even a serious contender in the UFC. Too short, too stocky – see Thiago Alves.

yeh Thiago was never a serious contender....
Not even that time he was the number 1 contender

yeh, he's really been on a roll lately...
I’m guessing he’ll jump to middleweight and fight Anderson Silva – no one left in welterweight to destroy, sadly…
And he wasn’t over-pushed despite being a one-trick can. No way…

Oh you are referring to his latest losses....
Rick Story loss was pretty ordinary but hardly think losing to GSP and Jon fucking Fitch via wrestling shows he’s a one dimensional can.
You must’ve got memory loss from jerking off to JBJ highlight videos and forgot about his 7 FIGHT WIN STREAK including Matt Hughes, Koscheck and Chris Lytle that led to him getting a title shot you fucktard.

and by the way...
I agree about him being too short and stocky – that half an inch shorter than GSP has definitely put him at a disadvantage

It’s funny to me how we’re all only talking about Bellator since they are consistently on TV. When organizations like Shark Fights, MFC, etc. make weird matches and have cans fighting no one gives a hoot, but since Bellator has taken Strikeforce’s defacto spot as the “#2” underdog promotion, we’re all going to scrutinize everything they do. I consider myself a hardcore MMA fan, but I merely watch Bellator to see exciting, “fun” fights. If I want to see the best fight the best, I watch UFC events. I’m just past caring about the “legitimacy” of Bellator and its champions; it’ll be entertaining to see if Lombard gets another brutal KO. Anything less will be disappointing, just like Alvarez’s win over Curran. It’s just a small time promotion that is only elevated above the level of Shark Fights, Tachi Palace, etc. because of its TV deal and its retro tournament format. I mean, just look at where they hold their events! I feel like when we get frustrated with Bellator’s matchmaking, it’s merely because we all expect too much from them. The reality is they’re doing the best they can with EXTREMELY limited resources. Don’t take them too seriously; the fact Dana White almost never, ever mentions them tells you how high profile they really are. In my opinion, they REALLY needed to get on Spike TV next year, and it’s sad that a mere collection of footage from the UFC can prevent them from doing so.
When has Shark Fights or MFC made a non-title superfight with one of their champs (does Shark Fights even have champs?) against pretty bad competiton?
I’m just saying if they did, no one would care, because people don’t have big expectations for them since they’re a small promotion. Bellator is also a small promotion, but people have unrealistic expectations for them since they are seen as the “#2” promotion behind the UFC, which I believe is solely due to their television contract. They stage events at small Native American casinos and their roster is almost entirely unknown (their actual roster, not including one-off fight contracts). Yet since they have a few “names” (Lombard, Alvarez) that people feel could potentially be successful in the UFC, as well as a small-time television deal, people expect them to become the next Strikeforce. Strikeforce had a whole host of problems, but when they were purchased they were light-years ahead of where Bellator currently is, in terms of TV contracts, roster, production, big venues, video packages, etc. I’m just saying that they’re on the same level as Shark Fights or MFC, yet are perceived as being the next Strikeforce that could gain a market share on the UFC. The reality is that I’m confused how they make any money with tiny gates and what has to be a very small amount of TV rights fees. Their expenses include travel for fighters and employees, large purses for their champions and tournament winners, salaries for all their other fighters, salaries for their employees, and production costs. I just don’t see how they make money; it seems like a business propped up by investors who want to brag to their friends that they own part of a hardcore fight promotion.
