This weekend's UFC 137 card offers two clashes of ranked heavyweights. A slimmed down #15 Roy Nelson is set to take on #23 Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic as both look to climb back to relevance. The other heavyweight bout of note features #18 Matt Mitrione against his highest ranked opponent yet #13 Cheick Kongo.
UFC 138 offers no relevant heavyweight action, but the UFC's debut on Fox more than makes up for it by giving us a clear cut #1 vs #2 battle for the UFC Heavyweight Championship as Cain Velasquez will attempt his first title defense against Junior dos Santos.
Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

Such a weird ranking
you’d think this was the lower weight classes.
Holland: Every month.
Roth thinks Big Nog is the 3rd best heavyweight in the world
Subo thinks Travis Browne is better than Barnett
Iole hates Werdum and loves Barnett
Genia and Helwani with no love for Cormier
Genia also has Carwin above JDS…. months after JDS bludgeoned Carwin into a Halloween mask and weeks after Carwin announced he was done for at months with another back surgery. WTF?

Yeah, plenty of weird stuff going on. How can you have:
- Bigfoot at #6 and Cormier unranked (Helwani)
- Big Nog at #3 (Roth)
- Mark Hunt at #14 but Fedor unranked (Roth)
- Mitrione at #24 below Russow and Madsen (Leland)
- Pat Barry above Stefan Struve (Michael David Smith)
- Overeem at #9 (Roth)
. Carwin above JDS (Genia)
Jeez.

How fucking cool is that? I feel like we’re losing ourselves in the minutiae when, if you step back, things are awesome right now.

why is werdum top 5 ? who has he even fought the past month or two ? is he there because he beat Fedor like over a year and a half ago !! and Brock Lesnar ??? he’s been sick with diverculitis and lost to Cain before he was set to fight JDS who he would of for sure been beaten again !! Alistair did beat Werdum and is closer to a title shot than Brock should be so why is Werdum so close to Overeem ?? CHEICK KONGO SHOULD BE HIGHER THAN STRIKEFORCE FIGHTERS WHO HAVENT EVEN FOUGHT LATELY !!!Barnett won two fights while Bigfoot Silva beat Fedor more recently thus Bigfoot and Barnett should surpass Brock and Werdum ! plus Big Nog looked better than Werdum, Brock, Barnett, Silva, and Big Country Nelson beat Cro Cop after some really tough competition loses that are valuable and he should be close to Brock in the rankings and where is the love for Frank Mir ?? he has won the past 2 or 3 right ? he should be as high as Brock & Werdum. This is why I cant stand rankings unless they are distributed by the Promotions themselves and enforced by the promotions to make sure guys are fighting the competition they should be facing to properly align themselves were they currently stand in those promotions. Just cuz Werdum, Barnett, Bigfoot, and Fedor are not in UFC doesnt mean they are more valuable than current UFC fighters! Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, Big Nog, and KONGO are more deserving than any outside promotion guys.. glad to see Mitrione and Schaub put in their place among elite MMA heavyweights but a few wins and they could surpass the old guards like Barnett, Fedor ,and Werdum and Kharitonov. why is Gonzaga, Cro cop, even mentioned ? rather see recent ufc signees without a debut fight in the octagon in that place just because they are soon to be forgotten (cro cop & gonzaga & heck strikeforce guys not named Cormier or Del rosario

rankings
if someone hasnt fought in the past month or atleast a month n half they shouldnt even be in the rankings. atleast make it a two month minimum or show the latest fights, appearances, and results of each fighter on the rankings so we know were exactly each guys stands or should stand. plus if someone has had more frequent fights that should outweigh talent or merit and respect from like 5-10 years ago. this is a what have you done for me lately sport if its a sport at all cuz it seems these rankings dont mean much when injuries happen or someone stirs the pot and Zuffa see’s $$$ signs. its a business and unless someone gets a job to make it a fair equal ranking system it doesnt really matter at all. its all based on opinion and feelings for each fighter and how we feel about them. I think they all deserve our respect for doing what we dont want to do thats possibly get hurt & beat up. Too many title shots have been giving without the equal amount of work put into it as others make it really hard to call it a sport
