Roynelsondwarven

Roy Nelson, pictured here with Forrest Griffin and an epic beard, looks to be in the best shape of his career in advance of his fight with Mirko Cro Cop this Saturday at UFC 137.

Nelson has also amped up his training camp, putting in time at Xtreme Couture, as well as with his last opponent, Frank Mir.

Fine! I'll go build my own lunar lander, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the lunar lander and the blackjack.

First thing I thought was

damn Forrest is a big fucker!!! I think that Roy’s going to put an end to this sad Cro Cop denouement, submission 2nd round.

He'd killed killed against the best,

but since there’s no threat of his being a title contender anymore, I wouldn’t mind seeing him open it up for whatever “big” fights are available to him.

I have heard Forrest is big.

But Damn man. Had no idea he was that big. I I have a friend who has trained with him in the past and said he was huge but my friend competes at 125 lbs so I just assumed he was big in comparison. After seeing that pic though he seems every bit as big as my friend said he was.

serious?

he’d get knocked out every fight.

by Tats16 on Oct 25, 2011 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know about this.

For those who know more about grappling than me: Does Roy rely on his size a lot for controlling guys? If so, it seems like losing a lot of weight could be detrimental.

He should prob drop to 205 after this fight

Someday Roy is going to wake up look back and regret that he wasted most of his prime not getting the most out of his body, and talent.

by dpk875 on Oct 25, 2011 9:19 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Why? In general heavyweights are not as skilled as Light Heavyweights. He was obviously taking advantage of the fact he could grapple and throw hands, which alone can get him wins over a lot of people in the heavyweight division.

by discoandherpes on Oct 25, 2011 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, that concept is ridiculous to me as well.

Maybe Roy’s cardio would be better, but is he going to cut a bunch of weight and take on Jon Jones, Rashad, Shogun, Lyoto and Rampage all of a sudden? Roy’s got talent, but it’s not elite talent, and there’s no reason to assume he’d gain enough speed to make it worth his while.
