Asian MMA Update: ONE FC Announces First Three Shows for 2012, URCC 20 and Road FC 5 Fight Card Additions
There's a bunch of news coming out of the Asian MMA scene lately, so let's get right to it:
- ONE Fighting Championship had their debut event last September, a few months later, and the promotion breaks their silence and announced the official dates for their next three shows for 2012. It's going to happen on three different countries, with less than a month apart in between them.
- Their first destination for 2012 will be on February 11, at theJakarta, Indonesia. That's a 4000 capacity indoor arena that's usually used for basketball games.
- Second destination for the year will be on
- the Philippines Korea
After the jump, several more news and updates from URCC, Road FC, Legend FC, and more.
- Road FC 5 is shaping up really well. Earlier it was reported that UFC vet Denis Kang will take on Shungo Oyama as part of their middleweight tournament, and Evolve MMA's Brian Choi will make his featherweight debut against Bae Young Kwon. If that wasn't good enough, just recently added to the card, is a lightweight bout between dangerous Muay Thai striker, Vuyisile Colossa and Legend FC vet, "The Korean Bulldozer" Yui Chul Nam.
-
URCC 20, on November 5, also had a lot of changes and updates recently with the URCC finally releasing a bunch of fights for their milestone event. Multiple title fights will still be on the line, but with injuries to Kevin Belingon and Sabah Fadai forcing them to pull out of their respective title bouts, the URCC brass had to shift things around to produce this fight card.
- Jessie Rafols vs. Reydon Romero [Bantamweight Super-Fight Title]
- Igor Subora vs. Ryan Pagalinawan [Heavyweight Title]
- Nicholas Mann vs Chris Luna [Light Heavyweight Title]
- Patrick Manicad vs Honorio Banario [Lightweight Title]
- Dexter Mistades vs Froilan Sarenas [Middleweight Title]
- Pete Brooks vs. Mac Sabiano [Cruiserweight Title]
- Lando Espinosa vs Adam Cacay
- Will Chope vs Jerson Estoro
- Rodel Orais vs. Jilmar Tangayan
- Sabah Fadai, who lost his MFC debut, gave this statement to Zike of MMA Orient: "I was suppose to fight November 5th for the title but I have suffered an injury in my last fight so I’m pulling out. Would have been nice to take Banario's belt though"
- The URCC Bacolod Brawl 2011 was concluded last week. Check out the results here.
- There are two big events in the region this week. On October 29, in Guam, it's PXC 27 which will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between former URCC champion, Justin Cruz, and Trevin Jones, along with a featherweight championship bout between Guam's most popular fighter, Joe Taimanglo, and their current lightweight champion, Harris Sarmiento.
- The following day, it's Legend FC 6, which will be headlined by an excellent lightweight title bout between the champion, Adrian Pang of Australia, and Sengoku vet, Jadamba Narantungalag. The event will be available on PPV in Canada, Australia and the US.
- Speaking of Adrian Pang, here's training footage from his camp. (HT: MMA Orient)

damm , that ring girl is smokin
One fc must have some money to do three different countries in 3 months.
I came in this post to remark on the smokingness of that ring girl as well. Beat me to it.

I'm thinking it's a solution to get these things more hits.
Haha. Here’s one more photo.

I like the fact that One FC are putting their fighters in for really tough fights on Road FC and not trying to match them against easy opponent to pad their records. Choi and Colossa are definitely underdogs but they should both be great fights.
I think the partnerships they are signing will be really good for MMA in the region. The best fighters from URCC, Road FC, Dare etc get a chance to fight on a major international show and promotions like Road FC get to bring in well known international fighters to feature on their shows. Everybody wins.
It’s good that promotions in Asia are co-operating like this, can you imagine the UFC allowing their fighters to take risky fights against tough opponents in order to help boost a smaller promotion?
I like Colossa’s chances because it sounds like Nam likes to bang and there is no way his stand up is as good as Colossas.
If you look at the difference in experience and take into consideration the calibre of fighters Nam has been facing I think you have to make Colossa the underdog though.

Yeah,
Nam has faced more proven opponents, but I think style-wise, Colossa will wreck him.

Just curious what weight URCC uses for that cruiserweight belt

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URCC#Weight_classes
Cruiser Weight (190-199 lbs)
The URCC uses slightly unconventional weight classes which only roughly correspond with the standard UFC ones.

I wonder what their travel arragements are like
Those countries being relatively close, would there be any significant savings by traveling by boat instead of flying everyone?
Lots of budget airlines over there.

The only time I have heard of a fighter travelling by boat is when they are going to Koh Phi Phi or Koh Samui for a Muay Thai fight. I guess that is a bit like Enter the Dragon, only with way more tourists :)
I like the idea of a fighter spending weeks travelling up river while performing karate kid style manouvres on the ships bow and possible engaging the ocsassional bandit in hand to hand combat.
At the risk of shattering your gyms I am afraid that the majority of fighters find air asia to be a bit more practical.

I hope all these events so close together aren't to much for them to handle.
Hopefully they can pull it off and it goes nice and smooth but it seems like a little to much to fast for such a young Promotion.
" Its like when I'm right I'm right, when I'm wrong I coulda been right, so I'm still right cause I coulda been wrong, you know, and I'm sorry cause I could be wrong right now, I could be wrong, but I'm right..." Bama
I know what you mean but because they are doing them in different countries I think a slightly different set of rules apply. You might get a few people travelling from KL to Singapore, and visa versa, but other than that they are going to be marketing to completely different ticket holders every show.
It also seems like One FC are intent on doing deals with domestic and cable tv providers rather than going pay per view and once a month is quite a nice and regular interval for your average TV audience, it’s not like people are going to decide not to buy the PPV if the shows are too regular.
