Does Everyone Here Watch the Facebook Prelims?

With the whole Jorgensen/Curran not being on the Main Card (but now they are) debacle, some were questioning why people cared. I mean, all the fights are shown anyway in one capacity or another so it doesn't really matter to the hardcore, BE community because we would see them fight anyway.

But is this true? Does everyone on here really devote there entire afternoon, evening, and night to a UFC card. So it really doesn't matter to people at BE who is on the main card, who is on Spike, and who is on Facebook?

To me, hell yes it matters. I don't usually watch all of the FB cards. I will devote a night to MMA, but I am not devoting nearly all of my Saturday to it. I just don't have time for that as I have other things I need to be doing. Especially not to watch a shitty stream on a computer monitor that is usually fuzzy or skips.

Plus, if I want to watch fights at the bar due to price, I have to get there early enough to get a seat and the FB fights are never shown. So I miss out on some good fights due to the UFC's incompetence.

So to me, hell yes it matters. But what about the rest of BE? Are you religiously devoted to FB so card placement doesn't matter?

Depends

Since Scotty was going to be on it, I definitely would’ve watched. Now, being that there’s a good chance I don’t see the PPV at all, I’ll most likely watch, to get some of my MMA fix.

Business as Usual has a STACKED team. I mean, we could win with just me, but you know.

HDMI

I have a 12 foot HDMI cable I connect to my large screen TV from my laptop so I watch the facebook fights on my TV.

I’ve actually had amazing success with the FB streams. I live in the Cayman Islands where I pay like $60 a month and my internet is only 3mb (and I never actually get anything close to that). It is also some wireless internet connection (so I have a wireless modem which connects to a shared wireless antenna on cell towers in the area. Everyone in the area shares that so when a lot of people are on speed slows even more. All that said, I’ve watched every FB fight since they started and last fights were the first time I ever had it freeze on me (it happened twice). Besides that, quality will vary (THANK YOU SILVERLIGHT!!!) from a bit pixelated to basically HD quality based on how my connection is.

I hear people complain about the streaming performance/quality, but I just cannot imagine a worse setup than my internet connection and it is generally relaly good for me.

I have so many ways to connect my PC to my TV, it’s really easy and cheap to do with recent comps, if you want to. Before you needed to connect the audio separately which could be an annoyance even though that never stopped me.
My stream experience was perfect at the beginning, recently I had random drops in quality during broadcast (always in fullscreen) but it never drops.
Yet I skip many of these fights, because I’m not hyped for them and with my time zone I got to be hyped to watch MMA.

Yeah I've watched every one since they started on facebook

Quality is usually pretty high and like mentioned above its real easy to connect it to a big TV. Plus I’m in the UK so the facebooks start around 11.30pm and the PPV ends around 5.00am so its more about trying to stay awake than worrying about dedicating a whole afternoon for me

I've seen none of them

I always work on saturday, Hell I miss most of the spike prelims cause I can’t get home in time since they changed the start times. Best case scenario I get to the bar to watch the PPV a little before the 1st fight.
I would love to but I need to make money

by 1N87 on Oct 22, 2011 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

I've seen most of them.

Missed a few usually because earlier plans kept me busy until the main card. But out of my friends who like MMA, I’m typically the only one who watches the undercard fights. If a fight isn’t on Spike or PPV, they have no idea what I’m talking about unless it gets re-aired later on in the evening to fill time.

So in that sense, it makes no difference to me when I see a fight, but it is nice to share the live fights with my friends. But i don’t see a voting option for something like that.

Also, I don't really care if I'm familiar with the undercard fighters or not

I watch the prelims because I like watching MMA.

Agreed on that

I guess if I was betting on fights I’d care more about who the prelim guys are and what their strengths and weaknesses are, but I just enjoy a good fight and it’s kind of nice not going in with expectations.

I always watch the Prelims in facebook free HD fights. It gets me in “the fighting mood” to watch all night. I live in Holland so the prelims start here in 12 midnight a good time.

I’ve seen most of them, but I usually work until one hour before the Spike prelims. The timing just isn’t good sometimes.

I think I have only sat through 2 full facebook prelims and those were 133 and 136 like other people have said it depends on who is fighting

I watch when I am able, but I don’t set aside time in schedule for it. I have never had a problem with the feed, always looks clear to me. I also try to watch the free streams on Sherdog and MMAJunkie when they have them as well. More free MMA is always a good thing!

Quality of the stream is pretty good actually

If I lived on the West Coast I can’t imagine myself giving up an entire day for it. But as I am in Atlantic time, 4 hours ahead of those on the Pacific, it really only takes up my evening which I think is pretty reasonable.

I picked 'always' but really it's more like 'most of the time'

I used to go out sometimes and watch the fights with friends, so I would watch the first few and then head out to be there in time for the Spike fights.

But for example, when I knew I wasn’t getting UFC 130 or 131….all I had to fall back on was the awesome idea that I could still watch a solid number of fights for free between Facebook and the Spike fights.

Most of the time

But sometimes we will go to a bar to watch the fight and will skip to prelims to make sure we get a table.

I watch it whenever I can

I can’t always dedicate six hours straight to watching MMA but if I’m free, I watch it, regardless of who is fighting.

by simpsycho on Oct 22, 2011 11:27 PM EDT reply actions

Always, though sometimes I might miss the first one because of the somewhat erratic start times.

I’m lucky though, since it’s on Sunday here in Australia and I never do anything on Sundays.

by Pyrgz Krum on Oct 23, 2011 12:32 AM EDT reply actions

I only watch it when there is I fighter I am excited to see fight

If it’s a guy like Jon Makdessi, Pablo Garza, Scott Jorgeson, or Brian Bowels I try to watch. Everything else I won’t go out of my way to watch unless I hear it was amazing after it took place.

by amendamatrix on Oct 23, 2011 1:21 AM EDT reply actions

Always watch them

They start at about midnight in Denmark so unless I’m out I’ll always watch them live. On the few occasions I’ve missed them, I’ve (* cough *) found them elsewhere.

Only when I'm home

When its a PPV I have to get to the bar early and I’ll miss them unless they’re shown on Spike or between PPV fights. But I usually stay home for the free cards, then I’ll watch the entire thing.

Depends on what i'm doing and who's fighting, really.

I try to catch as many FB fights as I can.

90 percent of the time, i watch the fb fights

and frankly, i find that the untelevised undercard has a lot of enjoyable fights. guys are trying to make the main card, so they bring their A game. fewer fighters fight “careful” on the prelims.
