A shame he can't be a man and admit he tapped.

Hmmm… his hand went up and down in a tapping motion…
That is usually what constitutes as a TAP.

Ya, I was being a smart ass. My mom is from Sweden and I lived there when I was very young. When you think Swede, you don’t think of a guy who looks like Akira.
Well, Sweden is changing. More and more Swedes once again have a background that gives them a bit of a different look from the traditional stereotype (even if the “tall, blond, blue eyes” stereotype was never that dominant). Nothing new really, Sweden have had waves of imigration multiple times in history. People jut forget about it in a few generations…

I know, seriously.
You wouldn’t think a Renzo guy would do that shit… because Renzo doesn’t tap ever. But I guess when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. I feel bad for Neace because he did win that fight, but Herb missed it and instead of cranking the heel hook like a dick, he let go when Akira tapped.
They weren’t kidding when they said life wasn’t fair.

but has anyone mentioned the fact that he tapped?
Guys who pull this,
cause ripped ligaments in others. Herb is usually pretty good, but it looks to me like he blew it this time.

Screw it.
Come to think of it, he admits he tapped once, but Herb didn’t stop it, so BAD HERB, and if Neace released a little, that’s a hard way to learn the lesson. Can’t really blame Akira for going on and dominating the rest of the fight.

Sorry guys, but I don't think he tapped
He kind of had his hand there, and inadvertently moved it a little, but it wasn’t a clear-cut tapping out motion, far from it. Herb Dean who is often called the best referee didn’t think so either, and he was right on top of the action. And it wasn’t like Niece let go of the submission thinking the fight was over, Akira slipped out of it on his own force, not by any kind of confusion.
I’m with Akira, I don’t think he tapped. And even if he did, it’s on the referee to stop the fight, so that’s who you should be complaining about here.

There is a pretty significant difference between those two fights. The referee stopped it in one, in the other he didn’t. So it doesn’t really matter what anyone wants to think after the fact.

Akira said it himself
If you watch the video again you see my knee pop out because he slipped. He lost his grip. I was thinking “holy shit he’s got it!” I changed my mind the moment he slipped. I’ve watched it maybe 100 times and I know for myself that I never tapped. Herb Dean has refereed thousands of fights and he didn’t see a clear tap. Usually it’s a horror scene when somebody taps from a heel hook. People start screaming and crying. I raised my hand and tapped one time on his thigh but it wasn’t one of those dramatic taps like a metal drummer. It slipped out and I just went up on him. I would be honest and say I tapped if I did. I know the feeling that went through my body saying “this is going to hurt, I’m going to tap.” But then I got out. One hit and then I’m out.
The problem is that “one hit” or “one time” came immediately after 2 taps literally a second before that.
You can plainly see him tap twice, everyone starts yelling “he tapped” then he tapped one more time (maybe a second after the first two taps) and Neace clearly relaxed and started moving his legs to get up. At that point Akira popped out and Neace turned his head toward Herb Dean, lifted his arms and started to protest before then defending himself as he realized Dean was the only person there who seemingly missed the tap.

You can see Herb move forward as he almost taps. Doesn’t stop the fight because I can’t be sure it is a tap or the arm flails a bit.
Ref doesn’t stop it so I say no top. Herb was right on top of it watching, its not like he was out of position and can’t see it. He is standing right over it and doesn’t call the tap.
Nothing more to see here folks, move along, move along.

Agreed
but then you have a percentage of people pissing and moaning about when a guy holds on to a submission. My opinion is you hold on until it is clearly stopped. It isn’t your job to protect the other guy, that is his job. And no, I’m not saying you should try to hurt someone or hold on after the ref has ended it.

True,
but it’s hard to blame a guy for releasing a hold as destructive as a heel hook when the opponent taps. Think about how much shit Aoki, Imanari, Kitaoka, and Palhares get for cranking leg locks & holding them until the ref stops it. If you let go, this kind of shit happens, and if you hold it, you’re a raging dick… you can’t win.

Akira is exactly correct
as long as you don’t count that time he tapped…
"Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over - an analyst and a therapist. The world's first analrapist."
IN THE END
it doesn’t really matter. This was a horrible fight with a ton of build up and animosity. Neither guy has a chance. And Dustin showed very little, bad striking and bad grappling. I love when these guys say they are the best at something, then do next to nothing.

Exactly
At least Akira makes no bones about it, his intent is to hit the guy and KO him. Despite a terrible hesitancy to pull the trigger last night, he did show he has some power. As I watched, I really didn’t understand what Dustin’s skill set was. His striking was terrible and he didn’t use it to set up take down attempts. he got put on his back much of the fight and did very little except break posture.
With all the heat leading up to the fight, it left me very disappointed.

If there's an injury
Neace should automatically be first in line for the quarterfinals.
As he writes "[Fighter's] job is to fight and the ref's job is to ref."
I fail to see how it’s Akira’s fault that the ref didn’t stop the fight, even if he did tap. At the end of the day they kept fighting and he won.
If anyone is to blame it’s the ref.
