UFC 137 Main Card: UFC Once Again Gets it Right

Today the UFC made a fantastic move by shuffling around UFC 137 and promoting Brad Tavares vs. Dustin Jacoby to the main card. This is something that's been on my mind since this card was St. Pierre vs. Diaz. With all of the loaded talent on the preliminary card, why is Tavares getting Facebook status? Brad KOed Phil Baroni and was a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter: Season 11. As you all know, being on The Ultimate Fighter makes you a quality, UFC-caliber talent and in a division as thin as middleweight a win for Tavares against the unbeaten Jacoby could catapult him into the top 5.

Georges St-Pierre's misfortune is a gain for Dustin Jacoby (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) Brad Tavares (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

The middleweights, who had been relegated to the Facebook-streamed preliminary card for next week's UFC 137 event, have been promoted the pay-per-view main card, UFC officials today confirmed with (

A PPV slot opened when St-Pierre was forced out of UFC 137's championship headliner with Carlos Condit due to a knee injury.

Honestly it's like Christmas has come early. Also on the Facebook cards were guys like recent bantamweight title challenger Scott Jorgensen, MMA legend (according to Bellator announcers) Jeff Curran, Brandon Vera, and Chris Camozzi. Three of those four fighters are coming off wins!

Among the Facebook fights, Tavares vs. Jacoby had to win. The excitement I got from watching Tavares vs. Aaron Simpson almost caused me to hyperventilate. His domination of Phil Baroni, THE BEST EVA, was so awe-inspiring I thought I was watching the next Jon Jones. Sure Jorgensen vs. Curran sounds relevant and interesting, but no one wants to watch midgets point-fight their way to victory or *gasp* grapple. I present to you my MMAth that proves Tavares has potential to be an elite UFC MW:

Brad Tavares > Seth Baczynski > Tim McKenzie > Bill Mahood > Jason MacDonald > Jason Lambert > Babalu > Robbie Lawler > Chris Lytle > Derrick Noble> Thiago Alves > Josh Koscheck > Anthony Johnson > Charlie Brenneman > Rick Story > Johny Hendricks > Amir Sadollah > Brad Blackburn > Ryo Chonan > Anderson Silva

Case closed. Right decision was made.
