As I'm sure we have all heard by now, GSP has injured his knee, and is out of his fight with Condit at UFC 137. Because the fight is only 2 weeks away, Dana decided to sit Condit, and move Penn vs Diaz into the main event spot as a 3 round fight. From what I've heard GSP is only going to be sidelined for a month or two, but the question still lingers, when is GSP vs Condit going to happen?
These are the upcoming UFC PPV's and their current main, and co-main events:
UFC 139 - 11/19/11 - Shogun vs Henderson, Silva vs Le
UFC 140 - 12/10/11 - Jones vs Machida, Mir vs Nogueira II
UFC 141 - 12/30/11 - Lesnar vs Overeem, Vitor Belfort vs TBA
If GSP is only out for a month then having the fight at UFC 139 would make sense, out of the 3 events that is the weakest main event, however i have my doubts on whether GSP will be healthy enough to compete in exactly a month. From what i understand he will be unable to practice for a month, meaning the fight will have to take place in at least two months.
UFC 140 already has a great main event, so i doubt that the UFC would move the GSP fight there, so if the UFC wants to put GSP vs Condit on in 2011 they would have to make it the main event of UFC 141, and turn it into some sort of super card, but that still doesn't make that much sense to me.
I know Brock and GSP have already fought on the same card twice before, but it seems foolish to put your top 2 PPV attractions on the same card when you have struggled in PPV sales all year.
So in conclusion, all signs seem to point at GSP vs Condit not happening in 2011 unless the UFC decides to hold another PPV. If i had to bet the fight will probably take place in UFC 142 or 143 in January.
