Brock Lesnar Signs Deal to Appear in New WWE Video Game
Brock Lesnar's history as a pro wrestler is what made him the draw that he is in the UFC. Despite concerns that his star in mixed martial arts may be fading after taking some pretty massive amounts of punishment in his past two outings, he is about to get another round of exposure as he signed a deal to be a big part of the new WWE video game.
After SEVEN YEARS apart, UFC pain machine Brock Lesnar is getting back into business with the company that put him on the map -- WWE -- in a deal that will make him the "featured star" in a brand new video game.
...
TMZ spoke with [Dana] White, who told us, "I love WWE and I have nothing but love for Vince McMahon -- I'm totally OK with Brock being in the game."
We're told the first commercial for the game -- starring Brock -- will be released tomorrow.
Will this have any impact on Lesnar interest by introducing WWE fans who weren't around for the glory days of "The Next Big Thing?"

Hmmmmm
I thought the UFC was adamant on its fighters signing video game contracts exclusive to THQ. Example, Jon Fitch.
THQ makes the WWE games.
Also, I’d assume that whole thing was over the competing MMA game. If someone came to Dana and asked to put Anderson Silva in the next Call of Duty game I’m sure he’d jump on it.

Lesnar has leverage that most fighters do not.
It does not surprise me he was able to negotiate more friendly terms for himself.
Also it’s a good thing for the UFC. If you get interested in Brock through this game, this will lead you to the UFC. It’s not like they are doing Brock a big favor here.
I think Brock is his own business unlike any other fighter in the UFC. Basically anything he does benefits Brock first. I see this as a positive for the UFC though.
"You're... you're crazy man. I like you, but you're crazy."
It's almost a boxing turn.
Fighter has the leverage. It’s interesting to see how much more of this happens. GSP has turned down fighting Silva for years because he’s [rightfully] content to dominate his own weight class and doesn’t want to risk his value by moving up. Outside of that, there isn’t a documented case of a fighter really doing their thing and the UFC saying “Ok, let’s make money together” instead of “Fuck off you work for us and we pay you what we determine is fair or you can die in a fire.”
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Yeah that's what I mean
The UFC would rather keep Brock happy than restrict him to the terms they keep with every other fighter under contract. It is all about leverage.
GSP is close to being the next guy but he doesn’t have the following that Brock does. I honestly see Brock going away and no other fighter ever getting more leverage than the company. I’m not sure if it is a good or bad thing but you can bet the UFC doesn’t like having to basically let Brock do what he wants.
"You're... you're crazy man. I like you, but you're crazy."
It's... conflicting.
They can’t let fighters get too big, or else they grow bigger than the UFC brand like Brock and arguably GSP. But if they don’t create homegrown stars and build them to be brand of their own, then end up with guys like Jones who can’t draw over 500k on a PPV despite being an exciting title holder. It’s a precarious position, and eventually Zuffa will have to decide if they care more about their branding /margins per event or the growth of the industry as a whole (which is mostly their own product).
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Also, Brock is an easy way to build up someone like Reem
A win over Lesnar does more than 3 wins over anyone in the top ten when it comes to exposure.
I’d rather just climb this fridge
Well, it's a THQ game,
and they cut the second best fighter in the most stacked division for not signing that exclusivity contract for life while threatening the rest of his gym members, and told all fighters outside their business that if they signed with a competing game developer (EA) that they would never get into the UFC…
But yeah. The fans are who overreacted.

Nah, I still think the fans and Fitch are the one’s who overreacted. Did fitch have some other video game bannging on his door with an offer? What game is going to come along wanting a UFC fighter and will the UFC really say no when push comes to shove?
Jon Fitch is no Brock Lesnar.

Yes, Fitch has a better record but that isn’t what the article or the comment was talking about.
Now that I’m thinking about it. Brock is definitely a more accomplished MMA fighter than Fitch.

I’m a Chargers fan so I can tell you that going, say, 14-2 during the regular season is great and all but it means nothing without the super bowl win. No one cares how many times you beat the Raiders and the Chiefs in October.

Well, of course.
THQ was the only developer willing to take a chance on the franchise, and EA reportedly just laughed at them. UFC owes them big. I’m sure that EA’s exec are kicking themselves now that the Zuffas bought Strikeforce.

Business as usual, Dana is brock’s bitch.
I am willing to test myself against the toughest fighters in the world, in front of hundreds of thousands or even millions of fans, over and over again. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I always come to fight. I've been doing this for the past fourteen years, and I have at least a few more strong years left in me. What have you done in the past fourteen years other than act like a moron on this forum and hang on Anderson's nuts? - Dan Henderson.
A popular Brock Lesnar in the WWE is a popular Brock Lesnar in the UFC.
All that good press will come back to the UFC in PPV buys, which I’m sure Dana loves.

Am I the only one who thinks Brock might be on the way out of MMA? If he gets stomped by Overeem (and let’s be real here, if Brock loses to Overeem he’s going to look REALLY bad doing it) then I don’t know what his way forward will be. Certainly he’d be a ways away from a title shot and I really don’t know if he’s got the dedication.
I’m not hating on Brock, but unless the guy has learned how to get in hit in the face, this could get ugly. Like no more MMA for Brock ugly.
