So the UFC is doing the auction again, which is great. In 2008 they raised a reported $4 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Last time TapouT made a special T-shirt that had all the proceeds go to the IFHF which was great. But the auction stuff was pretty pricey. This year, same deal.
The cheapest thing as of now is $500 for a special edition X-Box 360 with signed UFC stuff. They also have a signed Bo Jackson jersey at $500. Other items include (price is shown as of 1/7)
- $5,500 for a UFC experience
- $30,000 for a customized UFC Camaro
- $2,000 for a dinner date with the Octagon girls, tickets to event hotel/airfare
Then there are others that cost $1,000+.
What is the point? I'm all for charity, but how about some items that normal people can afford? Take a UFC 125 program, have Clay Guida sign it, auction it starting at $100. Do this with various fighters and various programs. Get a bunch of fighters, have a special breakfast with 100 tickets at some casino in Vegas, sell the tickets for $100. Get creative.
The UFC is starting to price out the common fan. I make good money, not great, and I'm young so I don't have too many bills, but going to an event and spending $250 on nosebleeds is just not worth it. The auction just repeats this fact.
