In college sports they rank the top 25 teams. SBnation keeps tabs on the top 25 fighters in the major divisions of the sport. MMA fans often debate pound for pound rankings, and the debate usually revolves around the top ten. With rankings like these, there really aren't any right or wrong answers as this is all subjective opinion. Even the philosophy of what the criteria one should use when determining who the best pound for pound fighters are is different. Some argue P4P is a measure of divisional dominance, and others take a more classic view that it is an attempt to create rankings if all thinks were equal, and all fighters were the same weight. Ultimately, many say P4P rankings are meaningless, but never the less their very fun and it is always engaging trying to determine who the very best athletes are across the entire sport regardless of division.
My hope is to simply get an idea of what the top 25 P4P fighters are in the eyes of BE readers. I hope this discussion doesn't devolve into petty bickering over placement or this or that fighter being snubbed(yea, I've probably snubbed Fitch). Remember BElitists, this is all in good fun. Don't take it too seriously.
Anyway, here is my list. I encourage all BE readers to try and come up with their own.
