Why the F**k is Chael Sonnen Fighting?
Excuse my language, and I'm not trying to be cute or "teh controversial recs!", but seriously...
...why the fuck is Chael Sonnen scheduled to fight at 128?
Rewinding the clock one year ago, up until probably his appearence on the Jim Rome Show, you'd be hard pressed outside of Matt Lindland to find a bigger Chael Sonnen fan than myself. I woke up my roommates after he lost and didn't even look at an MMA website for a week that followed. I was crushed.
His shit-talk was crazy, outlandish, vile, offensive, and ridiculous. I loved every minute of it.
But this isn't a question & answer in Vancouver where Chael is saying he's going to be swinging the hammer at Anderson Silva, this is January of 2011. And thusfar in January of 2011, Chael has admitted he used performance-enhancing drugs in a circus of a hearing in which his primary defense was that he never hit puberty and was presented by Jeff Lebowski.
Now he has double-tapped to a plea-bargain to goddamned federal money-laundering. Listen, I'm no attorney, my schooling was focused on a much more worthless Media Communications, but Federal Money Laundering is fucking Federal Money Laundering. No, he won't share a cell with Bernie Madoff, he won't be privied to that fine prison chicken and biscuits (I'm told), but for fuck's sake, he shouldn't be fighting on a medium that I need to pay to view him.
As much as I'll try to talk myself out of it over many, many, many glasses of whiskey, Chael Sonnen is a criminal. A crook; and not just a Heath-bar stealing one. He's a legit detriment to society right now and a multiple-offender. He's a cheater and a dirty politician with excellent takedown offense and horrible submission defense.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship excommunicated Paul Daley for a late punch against the dirtiest fighter this side of Cheick Kongo, Josh Barnett for the same offense as Sonnen minus a hilariously inept defense, and Efrain Escudero for being four pounds too heavy and having the audacity to lose.
It pains me to say this, but if Dana, the Fertittas, and the UFC wants to be seen as legitimate, they have to cut ties with Chael Sonnen.
It was a fun ride, Chael, but it's closed for maintenance right now.

It would happen in any sport.
People still supported Mcgwire even though he lied to everyone and will be a fan for life. But anyways, its not new. Allen Iverson has fans. Plaxico Burress has fans. Brett Favre has fans. Donte Stallworth has fans. Michael Irvin has fans. Gilbert Arenas has fans. Michael Vick has fans. Ben Roethlisberger has fans. I’m tired.
McGwire wasn't even questioned until he retired
They found ANdro in his locker and he said it was something else and no one cared because he was hitting dingers.
Bonds was crucified. Clemens.
What fans does Plaxico have? How many times has Brett Favre fucked up? I can think of two.

No, it's more like "I can't win in a straight up manner
so I’m going to use dirty tricks to reach that otherwise unatainable goal."
Gamesmanship:
Pat Barry blasts Crocop to the canvas with a right, and instead of following him down to pound him out he motions for Mirko to get back to his feet for another serving of Hot Barry.
"It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere."
Gamesmanship-
1. The use of dubious (although not technically illegal) methods to win a game
2. The use of legal but unsporting tactics to gain an advantage over one’s opponent
No.
A “game” fighter is not one that uses questionable tactics to win.
Saying “I’m game” or “he’s game” implies “I will throw down in any arena of your chosing, because I’m better than you.”
Not “I’m game. Be ready because I am gonna fake tap the shit outta you.”
"It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere."
Michael Vick’s crimes are a little more severe than Chael Sonnen’s, if I do say so myself. And I’m still a fan of his. You know why? Because the mother fucker can run like a half-back, and still throw bombs. He may have been MVP this year, had it not been for getting injured. I’m not a fan of athletes for what they do in their personal lives, it’s for how they compete.
Fitch's only fan. It's lonely, being me.
Also, Vick’s served his time. Color me crazy, but I believe prison actually can change a man.

so if you are going to accept vick after serving his sentence, why should chael get crucified if he only gets probation?
Because
as a society most feel the punishment for Vick fit the crime and did what it was supposed to, rehabilitate the man. The opposite would be true for Sonnen.
"Don’t quote old fucks to me" – Brent Brookhouse
To me the difference is that Vick seems legitimately repentant for what he’s done and has become a very humbled individual. He speaks out against what he’s committed.
Do you think Chael will do the same? Of course we haven’t given him a chance to do that yet—but if previous behavior is any indication….
Personally I’ll wait and see.

I never understood why
people view dog fighting as one of the worst crimes to humanity. Athletes and celebrities have served much less time for killing people (DUI/Manslaughter e.g. Donte Stallworth served 30 days vs. Vick spending 2 years in a federal pen) than Mike Vick has for killing dogs. Let’s not lose perspective.
Chael Sonnen’s crimes are more serious than what you are stating and analysts have stated that this type of mortgage fraud was a large part of the reason why our banking system collapsed.
to be fair regarding the Stallworth case
it happened in Florida. Florida has a big reputation for being able to pay your way out of jail time, while the charges Vick faced were federal. Different states are a lot less/more strict than others regarding their law enforcement. The easiest example I can give is that Plaxico Burress is still in jail for shooting his own damn self while Stallworth is a free man.

Not saying it's right...
but people take that view because dogs are defenseless and have an air of innocence about them. To take an animal that 90% of the population view as faithful companions and force them to fight, kill, and usually be killed – that is an affront to their morals and sensibilities.
I love my dog and think Vick is a piece of shit. Jump-roping with a carcass? Total dick. However, I 100% believe he paid his debt and deserves all the success he is getting right now.

Hard to say...
I caught a piece about him recently only getting a few minutes a game. He gets in during the waning minutes of the first half and puts up a few shots, gets yanked and then sits until the waning minutes of the second half.
Sounds normal for overseas ball though – I read Paul Shirley’s book and he documented the style of coaching overseas…so its not surprising that he can’t get much time.
He can’t get his rhythm so he gets yanked.
Mozambique Drill
Iverson was always about a rhythm player. That’s why he always complained about getting more minutes.
Hopefully he learned at the very late stage in his career that he should simply STFU and do what Dennis Rodman did . . . get on the exercise bike to stay warmed up, take shots in the back and stuff like that.
Personally I hope young players learn the lesson of Iverson and Marbury. Your attitude on the court and in the locker room is VERY important. Save your money.

McAdoo
I was wishing he could pull a Bob McAdoo and go over there and be a superstar. McAdoo left the Lakers (he was too old for the NBA) after a long career that included championship rings and a good name…he became a superstar overseas and won a couple of MVPs and a couple of championships too. I’ll do some research to get all the details, but I think he played until he was 43…
Mozambique Drill
More McAdoo
2 Championships overseas and an MVP…retired at 42.
Point is, I wish Iverson would do that.

I think Chael is a big draw now and he makes things interesting in the middleweight division. I doubt they want to thin out the middleweight division anymore. This is probably their most marketable fighter at that weight. Combine that with his skill level and we have a difficult fighter to cut. Just like Lesnar or even Chris Leben. Leben brings it in every fight and this goes really far in the eyes of the UFC.
Plenty of fighters has been cut with Chris Leben’s losing streak in the UFC. Add the criminal offenses and you would figure that he no longer had a place on the roster but stranger things have happened.
Chris Leben can do no wrong.
Something tells me that Chael Sonnen can do no wrong short of actually spending time in prison, which I doubt he will.
What did Brock Lesnar do? I know he insulted a multi-million dollar corporate sponsor but what did he do that was horribly wrong?

With Brock, I was referring to him insulting the sponsor. Had a fighter like….Mark Bocek done something like that, I doubt he would still have a place on the UFC roster. It wasnt horribly bad in terms of morals but it was bad for business. Less popular and less talented fighters are much more likely to get less disgretion shown for their actions
I don't care,
He got 2 years probation. Wow, it’s the end of the world. /sarcasm. Stallworth got 24 days for manslaughter. Don King has killed like 10 men and still walks freely. I really don’t give a shit if Chael is fighting for the UFC still. He didn’t kill anyone. I read the press release and he wasn’t even the main target in the investigation.
People have gotten away with worse and are continuing to be assholes and make a living. Also, legitimacy issues don’t seem to be a concern for the NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL. They have people showing up for work that have gotten away with murder. MMA isn’t even in a quarter of the spotlight that those sports are in.
He wasn’t even mentioned as a UFC fighter in the press release. A quick google search could have easily discovered that.
The People have gotten away with worse defense is pure bullshit
Is that a valid defense in court? Don’t you want MMA to be better than the other sports? If you wanna grow up and be a real sport, people are going to get into your shit.

This has nothing to do with not being mainstream.
MMA becoming mainstream has everything to do with people thinking its a fad.
MLB became a joke during the steroid scandal. Did they do anything? For fuck sake Congress had to get involved for them to fix it.
Your hate for Sonnen is going to cloud your judgment on anything that might be remotely positive for Sonnen on this issue(like him being able to return to fighting. You are a biased party in this and I ask you to step away from the discussion. Thank you for your time.

he should be able to fight any how. The guy needs to make a livig like every one else and he just screwed himself out of what probably made him the largest amount of his income. also to cover the topics above the reason for MMA not hitting main stream is because the majority of the people whos voice matters still see it as some brutal blood sport.
MMA will have its best crack at main stream when the people that are 16 to 30 become the major voices in the world. As older generations die off so to does some of the values and misconceptions that they have. Many of the people who are older see boxing as the major combat sport, but if things keep going the way they are now MMA will start to take that title
Meh, he doesn’t have a right to be a UFC fighter. If he can fuck this up to the point of them suspending him, then let him go flip burgers or bag groceries.
Of course he has a right to earn a living, but just not necessarily by being a UFC fighter.
being an good person has nothing to do with being a fighter or earning his place. Skill wise he has earned a spot atop the MW division of the biggest promotion in the world. A fighter should be judged as an athlete by what they do in the cage.
Sorry Riley
But that is bullshit. These guys (pro athletes, etc) are not above the rest of us. If I go out and commit fraud unrelated to my main job, I promise I am out of work that same day. I worked as a real estate appraiser, and it is crooked jackasses (realtor bashing, not fighter bashing!) like Sonnen that were a big reason behind people losing jobs, losing houses etc.
Then you add in a sketchy drug scenario? What would he have to do, kill someone to lose his job? As I stated, he does have a right to earn money, but he doesn’t have a right to have any certain job or work for any certain company. The world is filled with people who were on top of the world, made mistakes and now struggle to get by because of the consequences to their own actions.
If you ask me, he should feel damn lucky to only be serving some BS suspension and not sitting unemployed in a jail cell.
What would he have to do, kill someone to lose his job?
You said it. I agree.

If he went to jail then he diserves it. the guy stole money plain and simple. If his actions had done damage to his current job (which it hasent) then yeah for sure kick him out. Examples being paying off officals or fighters to throw the figfht, Things that have a direct impact on his job in question which is being a pro fighter.
In this case he lost his job that he faulted. He was selling homes, jerked around and stole money and now has lost that job fair enough. Thus far in MMA there have been guiys who have been linked to gang rapings, drug charges, DUI’s, and even made the show intervention with an addiction to porn and meth. chael is no better then you or anyone else and thus should be kept to those standreds. as a fighter there is no background check to get a job with them, unlike your profession. A fighter gets a job based on his athletic skill and nothing else (being popular helps). They are hired to win fights thats it.
Stealing a life and stealing money are two completely different things.
"If I go out and commit fraud unrelated to my main job, I promise I am out of work that same day."
And I promise that I’m not, because my job doesn’t have a code of ethics at its core. Your job relies on your unbiased judgment, so if that judgment is suspect so is your performance.
My job relies on my skills, which are not related to my commission of fraud. The same is true of Chael Sonnen.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
Judging from your comments . . . . you get it.
You’re fully aware of all the nuances that Chael Sonnen brings to the table.
Sonnen will not be going away any time soon, unless he actually serves time.
Yes, people get away with all kinds of crap. That’s not going to be his defense and I don’t think Crazynutts was not trying to present that argument as a valid defense for a court of law.
\ Kind of Off Topic \
Who cares about whether or not MMA will be better than other sports? Sorry, MMA will not be better than baseball, football, basketball or soccer. Why? Outside of football, there’s not a lot of horrible concussions and split heads. It’s not about that anyway.
Mainstream? I honestly don’t want MMA to be mainstream because of the potentially negative influence it can have on young people. I remember when a kid was piledrived on concrete. Stuff like that is not cool. I know, kids already soccer kick weaker kids in the head, sh*t can get really quick. I don’t put it past a bully to break an arm or snap an ankle.

Boy am i gonna be pulling for Akiyama
And man am i gonna feel sick when Sonnen wrestlefucks him.
Personally
I don’t care that Sonnen is still fighting. If he really is guilty, then I think 2 years of probation is light to say the least, but whatever the result, it has no bearing on his eligibility to fight.
What I did think was ridiculous is that Chael was at first granted an immediate rematch. You dominated a man with fucked up ribs for 22 minutes, and still get subbed by a tbasic triangle from guard. He should be required by the UFC to have a sub defense 101 test before ever getting close to a title shot.
The Akiyama fight is a good matchup though. Personally, i’d like to see a Sonnen/ Maia rematch as a litmus test for Chael’s ability to evade submissions. Despite his recent career resurgence, he still displays a complete disregard for the advantages of passing guard, which is foolhardy considering that he always gets subbed shooting in, or in his opponent’s guard.

How about a repeat offender getting in a fight with a police officer and cutting his face with a box cutter and getting 10 years probation. That is a 1st degree felony aggravated assault on a police officer.
I wouldn’t worry too much about how light he got off. There are far worse pieces of shit out there making out better.

Prisons are backlogged way too much to be putting away every white collar criminal, true. But if he was really embezzling funds and giving out kickbacks, then that’s a serious business ethics no- no. And neither do I. He got poked and did what was necessary for him to recover.
He got poked by a fist, then he poked the guy when he was about to drop ...
… then took a phantom knee to the afro and saved himself from TKO by Daley. Tried to bullshit his way to a groin shot call in the GSP fight, too.
But I was more leaning toward thinking the guy above me didn’t understand the wording of the quoted text

it’s called gamesmanship. Gaming the rules doesn’t make you a dirty fighter – maybe Daley shouldn’t have been throwing a clearly illegal knee.

I think you are very confused about the concept of Gamesmanship.
It has fuck all to do with bending the rules, and everything to do with extending your own risk for the sake of the “Game.” Further examples:
Fedor having a kickboxing match with Crocop intead of shooting in over and over like he could have done.
Fedor jumping into Nog and Werdums guard instead of backing off for the standup.
Pettis going for a flying super kick instead of walking down Bendo with a weak ass 1-2 over and over.
Fake tapping is not gamesmanship, faking anything is not gamesmanship.
It’s just faking and being a little bitch that can’t win on their own merit.

You're the one that's confused.

Did you read what you wrote?
They say he hit Daley’s right knee
he was hit.
So he MAYBE bumps his head into Daley’s right knee (there’s really no conclusive evidence of that either), pretty gently for that, and then goes down like a villain in a bad cowboy movie. If you think that’s an illegal knee on Daley’s part or that Koscheck’s reaction was appropriate, you’d also think that 95% of clinches contain illegal headbutts. There’s a pretty big difference being “getting hit” as you say, and tapping your head on another man’s knee.
How about this series of events?
1. Koscheck’s head connects with Daley’s knee
2. Daley throws a big illegal knee.
Now, do you think Koscheck IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT could tell the difference between incidental contact and purposeful contact especially when he threw a big illegal knee right after?
I’ve already conceded that he probably played it up, but it was not faked.
If you’re in a clinch and you get illegally headbutted accidentaly and then the guy throws and big headbutt, but he misses, you’re gonna sell that first headbutt, especially if it hurt. And you have no idea if it was illegal or accidental when the next one was thrown on purpose.

LOL
Kos absolutely had to have known it wasn’t the knee that came well after being hit that hurt him.

That's not what I said
Let’s try this again. If you’re in a fight and you hit someone’s knee and then they throw another knee that is also illegal a split second later, wouldn’t you, in the heat of the fight, assume that the first head to knee contact was also the result of a purposeful head to knee contact?

That’s more plausible. It still makes his reaction ludicrous.

The clinch analogy is that people lightly bump their heads or rub them together in the clinch all the time without it having the slightest bearing on the fight, not that they throw accidental headbutts, just like Daley didn’t accidentally throw an illegal right knee.
Now, do you think Koscheck IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT could tell the difference between incidental contact and purposeful contact especially when he threw a big illegal knee right after?
Yes, because the incidental contact was hardly contact at all. I think Koscheck is smart enough to know when he’s moving his head forward for an extremely mild collision (if at all) into someone’s knee or when someone is trying to KO him illegally. No one would have been paying the slightest attention to it had Koscheck not pulled his Rivaldo routine.
Look, I have no sympathy for Paul Daley here- he blatantly tried to KO Koscheck illegally, and blew his best chance of winning the fight in the process. But at the same time, I’m not going to shower love on Josh Koscheck or pretend what he did was an honest mistake. Saying he collided with Daley’s right knee is already giving him the benefit of the doubt. Saying he thought that Daley threw an illegal knee is stretching things way beyond the point of credibility.
Clinch analogy fails because incidental contact was followed immediately by purposeful foul

This.
Kos isn’t a dirty fighter. Kongo has grabbed more shorts and kneed more balls then any man alive. The only time I can ever think of Josh committing a foul was when he supposedly poked Johnson but one foul does not a dirty fighter make.

one foul does not a dirty fighter make.
That’s the main point. The point in bringing up Kongo was because the writer brought it up himself as a comparison when there isn’t one to be had at all.
As far as the Daley knee goes it wasn’t cheating at all, as I made clear a few comments up. It’s gamesmanship.

Many people?
Who the f*ck would want to see a convicted felon/proven steroid abuser/choke artist get played with for 23 minutes and tapped again? Not me. Fresh fights against opponents that actually stand a chance please.
We can see Chael lose any old time, we only get another handful of fights with a Prime Anderson, lets not waste it on Chuckles the Clown.
You think Anderson is gonna sign for a fight against this dick again? Probably not.
A healthy Anderson with nothing to prove about Happy Meal BJJ will fucking murder Sonnen inside of 10 minutes.

If everyone who was a liar or racist was fired we would have quite a high level of unemployment. (I know that’s missing the point but whatever). I personally don’t care what the guy does in his personal life as long as he is still fighting at a high level. Too many times we look at athletes like they’re such great people UNTIL it comes out that they did something wrong. I’m sure he’s not the only person in the UFC who has committed a crime. I watch him because he’s a fighter, not because he has a clean criminal record. Let the courts make him pay for his actions outside the cage, let the submission artists make him pay inside it.
by MemphisMike on Jan 4, 2011 4:34 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
First, liar and bigot were only two reasons I listed, second, everyone should be held accountable for their actions regardless of if I’m entertained by their fights, third, who looks at Cheal Sonnen and thinks he’s a great person, lastly, UFC fighters have been bigots, liars, criminals, and cheaters, he’s shown all of them wrapped into one person. He’s not special, anyone else gets walking papers already unless dollars say otherwise.
www.ninjasplace.com
Ah of course…the courts shouldn’t be the ones to hold him accountable…the UFC should. If you really think the UFC should only be filled with good wholesome people who never lie, or do anything wrong, you’re gonna be looking at a pretty empty roster. You’re right, people get their walking papers if they don’t make enough money for the UFC to deal with their shit. Hell Rampage and Penn have done things similar to what Daley did to Kos. Its a private company, of course its a $ game. Don’t act like it’s their job to be the moral police. If you make the company money, of course they will, and should put up with more. If what he did is really so wrong maybe you should be more concerned with the judicial system than the UFC.
Because it's a borderlien gimmie fight for him.
And not many people care whether or not Akiyama stays with the UFC after his “win” over Belcher and subsequent losses to Bisping and Leben.
He made a plea deal and that's the end of it
Legally, it’s the same as serving time, as long as he serves his probation according to the terms he has paid his dues according to the law. If you don’t like it then don’t buy the ppv, plain and simple. I can’t stand Anderson Silva or Jake Shields. I bitch and moan, but in the end, if I am really that unhappy, I will not pay for Silva Vs Belfort nor will I pay for GSP Vs Shields.
If the UFC cuts him we wont get to watch him squirm
Chael made a serious mistake and now the Feds are making him pay for it. You can be sure he will never have a job were he is involved in large financial transactions. I hope he gets a little time but like most non violent offenders he should get a second chance in a field were he can’t commit the same type of crime. Of course, he has no “right” to be in the UFC and if he keeps insulting contracted fighters and insulting the decency of a large would be fan base, then ZUffa may conclude the damage to their reputation is too significant. Contracted fighters who are involved in violent crimes can be shown no such leniency by the UFC and should seek employment in residential real estate.
Your beliefs become your reality.

I don't have an opinion either way
Not being an asshole isn’t one of the prerequisites for being a fighter in the UFC. Or any organization. This runs the gamut from people who have been convicted of crimes (and even spent time in jail) such as Lyle Beerbohm, repeat drunk-drivers like Chris Leben, recovering drug addicts like Court McGee, and Nazi sympathizers like Toni Valtonen.
http://mixedmartialartsblogger.wordpress.com/
If I recall
The UFC can get away with this because he’s not actually sentenced yet, “two years’ probation” is merely the prosecution’s recommendation which the judge may or may not go along with.
uhhh... he's got a plea deal
more likely than than not, the reason his sentence is so light is they’re probably going to get him to testify against some other people.
which is why im done with Chael now
Ive tolerated this leg humper since right after he beat Nate because i loved his smack talk, enjoy a good racist joke now and then, and did think the Silva fight was amazing. It all went downhill from there, to the lowest of the low. Last time i start to look forward to watching boring fighter just because theyre outspoken to the ridiculous extreme. Sorry Mckee!~

I can't disagree more strongly with this FanPost.
I see no reason for the UFC to cut ties with Chael Sonnen. Money laundering isn’t relevant to fighting. If he’s not going to jail, there’s not even any interference with his availability to do his job.
I’d be pissed if I lost my job because I plead guilty to a white collar crime (and, frankly, there’s no way my employer would do that).
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
On the other hand, employers are allowed to ask if you’ve ever been convicted of a felony. And money laundering is a big one.
And why is “white collar” crime so forgivable anyway?
Because unless you handle money or contracts are part of your job, they're not relevantly similar to the work you do.
Violent crimes are relevant unless you somehow never deal with people in your job, but something like bookmaking doesn’t impact your ability to do your job. So you take some bets on the side. So what? Sure, it’s illegal, and you could go to jail for it, but as long as you don’t it shouldn’t matter to your employer.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
So someone guilty of moneylaundering...
..isn’t a higher risk to throw a fight for a bookie?
I think he is.

The only reason they're keeping him around after all his BS
is because they want that rematch with Anderson Silva. Any other fighter, or if he had lost under the usual circumstances would be cut by now.
Wolfgangsta @ www.ninjasplace.com
The rematch with Silva is a Pipe dream at this point.
It’s never gonna happen dude, no matter how bad they want it.
About 75% of the steam went out of that rematch when Chael was popped for Juice whilst fighting Anderson, the casuals all think Chael was busted for Juice, so why would anyone want to see that again? If Chael couldnt do it with a raging TRT inferno burning up his veins he sure as hell isnt pulling it off under a microscope the second time.
Factor in how big Anderson is on respect and the martial way and all that. Can you really see him thinking it would be ok to give any sort of validation to Chael’s "Performance’?
Even if Chael manages not to get tapped in 2 or 3 rebuild fights I don’t see Anderson signing for that fight for less than a cool million just to show.
"It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere."
I disagree
if it were a pipe dream the UFC would be cutting ties. However they did just suspend him. So we’ll see what happens.

I'm not talking about the UFC cutting him.
I’m talking about Anderson agreeing to fight him.
The UFC comes to fighters with offers of fights, they don’t say “Here is who you are fighting.”
Any fighter can say no to any fight at any time, Anderson especially. And if they bring that contract to Anderson he will probably put it on the ground and dance around it for 25 minutes and taunt it, but he sure as hell wont sign it.
"It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere."
Isn't a fake tap a tactic heaily used in bjj tourneys?
He’s serving out his suspension for testerone. I don’t care what happens outside the cage/training, , I’d look at it differently if he did something terrible.
theres no such thing as a fake tape. Its called a quick tap. In no way did chael say he dident tap. After the fight he asked what happened and the ref said you tapped and he said i bel;ieve you. Most of the flack sonnen gets for quick taps come from his coach matt lindland. as we know lindland managed to get a fight restarted when he said he dident tap. Justice was served and matt got tapped again however
Except his actions when Rosenthal stepped in, he tried to act like he didn't tap
That’s why Anderson did what he did (he knew what Chael was doing and didn’t want to let go) and that’s why the crowd booed. It took a good 20 seconds before Chael said OK, I believe you after arguing it a bit. He did the SAME thing in other fights. SMH.

I just watched this fight 2 times more, and can you F*CKING believe
they wanted to fuck him? Chael taps, Josh steps in to call it, Chael starts talking, and that scumbag tries to hold Anderson there, like “Wait wait, stay there…”
Anderson: “Get. The. FUCK. OFF OF ME.”
As he’s walking away wiping the dirtiness that is Chael off of him, Rosenthal is still trying to get him to come back!
I have a feeling if Anderson hadn’t scrambled out of there they would have tried to wave off the tap, Josh just has this look on his face like “Ooops, this isn’t what I was supposed to do.”
Scary.
"It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere."
That's exactly what happened (minus your editorializing)
It wasn’t “You tapped” “Oh ok, I believe you”
There was a whole sequence that led to that.
