His salary only goes to show that financially, he really should stick with Strikeforce and be a top dog instead of being in the UFC and possibly being a mid-to-upper-mid-tier UFC Welterweight. I don’t know why Diaz is driving a busted up Honda though with this salary, but my guess is that mayabe a new car is more likely to get stolen in Stockton than a piece of junk.

Koscheck goes out and buys a 3 mil home and everyone bags on him for not having an eye on the future. Meanwhile Diaz makes a pretty hilarious comment about driving a Honda to the media and everyone bags on him for not getting a nicer ride.
I think the moral of the story is that MMA fans like to bag on fighters.

Get out of here.
He’d get Shields money. At least. He’s probably SF’s 2nd or 3rd biggest draw, so he’s a major chess piece. He’d make all kinds of money with the UFC, especially if he could win fights there.
by Charlie Custer on Jan 31, 2011 6:07 PM EST up reply actions
He wouldn’t get Shields money. Let’s not forget that Diaz wouldn’t even have that belt if Shields was fighting at WW in Strikeforce. Jake stepped aside for him and went to MW, where he beat Dan Henderson (a much bigger win than anything Nick has on his resume). Shields walked in one fight away from a title shot. Diaz would be nowhere near that if he went to the UFC.
Still a Beer Monster.
http://www.instrength.com
Let’s not forget Dana would pay a premium to sign-away one of SFs few WW draws.
To save me some time on 25% of all threads, here's the universal answer to the Fedor-debate: Fedor is the most accomplished MMA fighter ever. That is a fact. If he still is the best fighter at this point in time is up for debate.
Dana loves him a Diaz brother
He knows those guys are draws. Nick has to be more valuable to him (from a butts in seats standpoint) than Jake Shields.

Diaz is officially the second best [paid] welterweight in the world.
Tied with Jake Shields’ 150k for beating Kampmann, and handily above Fitch’s 108k to beat Alves. GSP fittingly crushes all, reporting 400k for UFC 100.

Actually I think he makes more.
We know GSP makes a fortune off the ppv cut, but I’ve heard that Diaz gets some sort of undisclosed back end cut with his new contract from ticket sales or something, that adds another $50 k – $100 on top of his fights. In addition, he gets his sponsors put on the posters and advertising with him (check out his shorts on the poster).
Can you, Brent, or Snowden possibly confirm that this is true.
Wow.
Nick Diaz made fucking over a 150K for beating someone who wasnt even in the top 25! That is Ridiculous!!
Of course they make more
They never include bonuses or sponsorship money. They make way more when those are included if they have some good sponsors.
I wasn’t talking about sponsor money. And besides a select few, undisclosed bonuses are usually a pittance. The sponsorship thing on his shorts is also something not done for many other fighters.
Not exactly sure what you mean by the shorts
but I’m pretty sure every fighter has sponsors on their shorts except for Roger Gracie. Roger Gracie is pretty badass to not care about money like that lol.

Last reported pay at WW is 125k in a loss to GSP at UFC 94. No reported pay for UFC 123.
So he’s above Fitch. BJ made 150k in his second loss to Edgar, but I’m doing this by weight class. Completely arbitrary, but fuck off, that’s how I’m gonna do it.

As a Bronco fan...
McDaniels had to go. Too many fuck ups with personnel and too much ego.
- Taking Moreno where he did was dumb.
- Not playing and getting rid of Hillis was dumb.
- Trading a first round pick for Alphonso Smith then banishing him for a backup tightend was dumb.
- Not being able to get along with Mike Nolan when he was responsible for all eight of your wins the previous season was dumb. (Defense allowed just over 10 points per game in those wins)
- Putting up tons of offensive yardage, but being ranked 20th and 19th in scoring offence when you are an offensive genius is dumb.
- Taking the most desirable coaching vacancy and turning into the least desirable job in two years is awful.
He is a great offensive coordinator, but he was not ready to be a head coach.
I am bummed about what his absence means for Tebow, but almost any coach should be able to put his team within the top 20 and at least the team will have a defense.

Pretty sure the UFC hooks up rides for their big fighters....
…They all have huge trucks and I read an article about the UFC and the custom car deals they have with some Vegas car shops. Not entirely sure though.
Hughes and Penn both make more. Hughes make 100k/100k, and BJ makes 150k/150k.
Still a Beer Monster.
http://www.instrength.com
Totally blanked on Hughes. You're correct, he received 200k for UFC 117.
I’ll address your comment on BJ here as well. I’m just going on reported numbers. No PPV bonus, no backroom payments or KO bonuses, just what is guaranteed in the contract and paid. This isn’t to measure who has grossed the most money in MMA, but who has the most lucrative contract and stable income.
And if I said there was no agenda behind this, I’d be lying. I’m demonstrating that Diaz is making way better money in Strikeforce than he’d get in the UFC, presuming there was no Strikeforce (or similar organization) to drive up his value. The fact that he’s even considered a top 5 paid WW is fantastic for him, considering his main value is excitement rather than being the very best in the world as GSP is.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
I absolutely agree he’s making way more in SALARY than he would in the UFC. I just don’t think it’s right to say he’s the 2nd highest paid WW in the world when it’s clearly not true.
Still a Beer Monster.
http://www.instrength.com
I messed up on Hughes, and BJ could be number 3
but like I said, this discussion taking place at all is the real point. He’s making WAY over his value compared to similar level fighters like Condit, who gets 52k for a win. And it’s all show money, not half to show half to win. Looks like he’s got an amazing contract with Strikeforce. And there’s no way he’d win every fight in the UFC, even if he did get a 75/75 contract like Jake. He’s getting dat paper.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"

I agree that being the big fish in the smaller pond is working out very well for him. I think he’d be crazy to go to the UFC, personally.
Still a Beer Monster.

yep,
after finding out what he made in his last 3 fights in Strikeforce. (i wonder what he makes when he ventures overseas?) also, assuming he is getting some sponsorship loot as well as gate/locker room loot i see no monetary reason for him to move to the UFC.

I honestly didn't realize that undercard fighters on a show like this still only get paid $1,000.
I don’t know what I thought the minimum was but geez. Maybe $2k? If someone fights every single week at that rate they will make a little more than $50k this year. (yes, I know sponsors, etc. But still)
Just for comparision (including randomly estimated sponsorship and known discretionary bonuses)
Nick Diaz: $180,000 ($150,000 purse, $30,000 sponsorship)
Matt Serra: $250,000 ($150,000 purse, $60,000 KOTN, $40,000 sponsorshi)
Diego Sanchez: $220,000 ($100,000 purse, $70,000 FOTN, $50,000 sponsorship)

If Coker would only allow Nick to be sponsored by some of those California hemp and “doctor” shops in Cali he would be the man.
This is why a lot of fighters like the idea of Strikeforce being around: Diaz was the highest paid fighter in February, higher than Frankie Edgar and Thiago Silva. And Jacare, Rogers, and Lawler came in at 4th, 5th, and 6th.
It’s not the UFC, but the second tier guys can headline in Strikeforce and get paid for it.
Actually
Frankie Edgar made more money than Diaz

thats how much money he makes floyd mayweather jr.
Every time he sees him so Roger doesn’t choke him out infront of his posse. Why do you think floyd had to come out of retirement? His Roger bill. …. lol

Man Nick made some scratch on this fight.
He showed a little bit of a weakness with those legs kicks though.
Coker told Helwani that Nick would stop complaining with his new contract
Sounds like he’s right. It was one of the first times Coker has ever really looked annoyed in an interview.

No sympathy for Diaz.
What is he always complaining about? The dude got $150K for one fight. Spare me.
DIAZ must be buying the finest of weed or Gracie is taking a huge share
Since January 29 2010 he has made 300 k in his fights ( Not including his fight for DREAM bc God knows if he got paid for it) thats not including his sponsor money or any undisclosed bonuses…… Yeah I’d say hes doing just fine

He probably blows it all away or most of it pretty fast since he complains a lot about his financial woes
Some people make a lot of money and most don’t know how to management it right.
He's said he doesn't even think about his money stuff
Just lets his management do it all for him.

Coker says he makes sure all of his guys get paid by Dream
Diaz was very vocal about getting late payment in his first fight in Dream and was quiet this time. I assume everything went fine.
So thats 300k plus whatever Dream payed him (probably 50K minimum) and that is just on fights. Fighters at Diaz level get paid a lot for appearances, seminars, classes, etc.
He is not making GSPs money, but he is getting paid very well for a mixed martial artist.
There are a lot of fighters who have a right to complain about pay IMO, but Diaz is not really one of them.
hershel onli 5k
how much did he get for last fight that he donated to charity i think it was quite abit
When a fighter making 150k is put against one making 20k, there is you red flag. Don’t get me wrong the fight was entertaining, but Strokeforce needs to put on more relevant fights.

champions regularly make more than challengers. im pretty sure oyu could look at most ufc payouts and see a relatively similar gap
No, i don’t believe you would. I Highly doubt anyone makes 7.5 times more than their challenger. It just doesn’t happen.
