Here's a short and sweet little diatribe from me. The UFC really ought to allow, encourage, and promote itself by having actual historical fights on youtube. It would get people into UFC, and sooner or later, watching old fights in low quality streaming is not going to be enough - people will want the PPVs, maybe DVDs, and maybe live tickets.
- Since you can get large packages of UFC DVDs so cheap, even if this initially cannibalises their DVD sales a bit, the revenue loss is minimal
- The quality isn't much chop, and it's a hassle viewing clips if your connection isn't fast- The potential reach of ufc clips on youtube is huge, and will act to increase the fanbase as well as make people bigger fans of a "generous" UFC - They can put the clips in themselves and make sure that sponsors' logos are visible, and paid advertising is embedded - the increased value of UFC sponsorships should garner more money for the UFC, plus the ads will generate income - Increased value of sponsorships of fighters means fighters get more cash - and therefore there's less pressure on the UFC to increase pay - so it can act to suppress costs over time I didn't really bother to think too deeply about the cons, please throw them at me in the comments. It seems to me to be a no-brainer. Of course, the fact that the UFC, a pretty smart organisation, seems to stop clips from being seen on youtube, suggests they've thought it through and feel it's best not to allow it... Cheers guys!
