Light Weight Grand Prix

With the merger of the WEC and the long line of fighters that are 1 or 2 fights away from a title shot why not have a GP to weed out contenders?  They easily have the roster to start off with a 16 man tourney, and LW’s to spare for reserve fights. The match making would take care of its self and the fans win where we would see the best of the WEC face the UFC, which would answer how they would compare to the UFC LW division. Let  me play match maker for the opening round:

Ben Henderson vs Takanori Gomi

Donald Cerrone vs Cole Miller

Kenny Florian vs Sean Sherk

Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida

Johnathan Brookins vs Charles Oliveria

Denis Silver vs Jeremy Stephens

Kamal Shalorus vs Joe Lauzon

Evan Dunham vs Jim Miller

Now I’m sure I overlooked some fighters that could be more deserving, but the idea is there. Plus plenty of room for reserve matches for good fighters coming off losses. Winner of the GP would face the winner of Edgar – Maynard – Pettis triangle, If Pettis chooses to wait for a title shot.

Am I crazy for thinking this is a good idea?
