Sigh
That’s a bummer. Maybe it’s because all he ever wanted was to be liked but I’ve always sort of had a soft spot for Timmah! Looks like he’ll never see a big time promotion again.
Ricco Rodriguez had his own gravittional pull for a while and now he is in great shape
so it CAN happen. Someone get Dr. Drew on the horn.

Yep. This doesn’t mean that he won’t make it back to the UFC as he is a huge man(he was 305lbs for the Moosin fight and back down to 270lbs for the Buentello fight). This does have to make you wonder about how hard he has been training though.
He has been training 2-3 times a day, obviously he hasn’t been dieting like he should. He will win this fight, although, I can’t say I’m thrilled to hear his weight.

You’re his friend. As the heavyweight class is divided… and particularly the UFC lacks strong “name” opponents for its fighters (Strikeforce’s heavyweight division is theoretical to me until I actually see some fights)… Tim is in a strong position for a money grab of sorts with a win or two more at a proper weight….
A fighter is a brand… and prior to weighing 311 lbs… a lot of us hardcore fans were buying into his brand again…which through a trickle effect and his past history would make it safe to say he’s bound to get a call-up to the big show sooner rather than later.
So what is going wrong in Timmeh’s life where he can’t score the lay-up that the world is giving him?

Well, first off Tim is a huge dude. 6’8" is tall but his frame is also very big. I’m not trying to make excuses for his weight, but 311 really isn’t that heavy for a guy his height. I do know that he has been back lifting weights again, so I’m hoping some of that extra weight is some muscle gain. He also recently just was blessed with the birth of his first child, a son, so maybe that has something to do with it too. I think the fact that he doesn’t have to make a specific weight isn’t helping anything. He will get back to the “big” show eventually if he keeps winning. At that point he will make 265 when needed. Even when he was champ he was cutting weight to make 265.

I’m not taking a shit on Tim. He’s a large cut above where he’s fighting now and it’d be nice to see him position himself better for another trip to the big leagues..
I just think it is a pretty fortuitous time to be Tim Sylvia given the heavyweight layout between Strikeforce and UFC… However, 311 lbs… no matter what you’ve stated above is a complete and utter disservice to fans.
This isn’t a matter of a few pounds. It’s 46 lbs of him shooting himself in the foot and the difference between watching him days later on a shaky stream against a lesser opponent… or on a big fight night against someone who matters.
You need to respect the baby... 'cause life is precious... and God... and the Bible.

can't see him getting invited to the big show
without at least one weigh-in at the heavyweight limit.
It seemed alright for Mark Hunt and Sean McCorkle though.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
i think those were different situations tho.
hunt’s deal was a legal loophole, and mccorkle was a nod to the people on the underground.
hard to argue that this could be perceived as unprofessional. of course, if he turns around and rights the ship for his fight with rizzo, then more power to him.
Tim has always cut a lot of weight, he is a huge guy, cutting down wouldn’t be all that much of an issue for him getting back into the UFC because he always cuts lots of weight. Tim is bigger than McCorkle but has always made weight before. Now the perception that he isn’t training hard enough might.
fair enough
i’d be curious to know what his walking around weight was in his ufc days, as opposed to now.

I honestly don’t want to see Sylvia in the UFC again. Not only would he get destroyed by most, if not all of the top heavyweight fighters, his head just isn’t in the right place. Clearly if he’s weighing in over 300 for fights there is something not right. I know he took this fight on short notice but come on. He can make 265, he’s done it many times, if he were serious he would be doing that. Dana won’t sign him because he knows Sylvia is washed up.

Can he coach?
Looks like we need one of those now.
One trick is to tell em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.....

According to his BMI
He is slightly obese.
However according to that bullshit system I am about as overweight as you can get before obese at 5’8" 185. It doesn’t take into account muscle mass, which I felt Tim always had a decent amount of.. I would call him just "very overweight.
Fun Fact – Jeff Monson, Gleison Tibau and Paul Harris are “obese.” I wouldn’t say it to their face, though.

It's sad really

He told the reporter yesterday (I’m assuming this was before the weigh ins) that he weighed 280 pounds. I mean, what’s the point of lying? Everybody is gonna find out the truth. Obviously he isn’t taking his career seriously, he just wants to make an easy check.
Hey UFC4 go fuck yourself, how about that? Fucking punk, I was just asking for the source that says lesnar gets 5 mill a fight, it’s obvious one does not exist. Bunch of gabronis on a site pulling figures out of your ass.
