Tim Hague Cut by the UFC
The release marks the third time the native of Edmonton, Alberta has been released from the promotion in less than 12 months.
"After getting released from the UFC again today, I'm gonna take a little break away from MMA, let the brain heal from my concussion, and get the passion/fire back," Tim Hague said on his Facebook page. "Even toying with the idea of trying a cut to 205 (pounds). I will be back though, I'm only 27, and I will make it back to the UFC."
Tim "The Thrashing Machine" Hague (12-5)
Loss Matt Mitrione - TKO (Punches) UFC FFTT 2
Win Travis Wiuff - KO (Punch) AMMA 5

Tim Hague is huge
This would be a James Irvin-esque cut for him. No way will that happen
Sometimes I just want to give it all up and become a handsome billionaire.
I was thinking the same thing.
Say what you will, but he’s not a small guy.
not an easy life to be a heavyweight
who’s just good enough to make the UFC but not good enough to win there. Recipe for taking some hard beatings.
Follow me on Twitter @KidNate
he’s a gamer.. but I don’t know if he really has the skills to handle the heavyweights in the UFC and i doubt dana or silva will want to give him yet another shot at the ufc. what would that be.. his 5th time in the ufc?

He handled the golden boy Pat Barry just fine… maybe he could fight him again in his 4th go-round in the UFC!
yeah but it’s pretty obvious that he’s never gonna be a contender.. he’d be a gatekeeper at best but even that’s saying something..
by young MONEY! on Jan 27, 2011 12:20 PM EST up reply actions
Well he’d obviously need to win some fights in order to stay around… I’m not sure who he’d beat in the current lineup of HW’s… maybe a guy like Beltran, or some of the TUF guys like Madsen. I don’t know. Either way, he’s not really worth whatever they’re paying him. They’ll bring him in when they need a last minute replacement, and that’s fine.
no he didnt.. he got his ass handed to him in the stand up, was out on his feet, and then Barry made an idiot mistake and left his neck hanging. we all know Barry sucks on the ground.

I don't think he ever re signs with the UFC
He would have to put together like 5 solid wins and even then his chances are slim. Unless the heavyweight division just gets shitty and they start lacking fighters I don’t see a re-signing.

That’s not really much of a stretch, heavyweight is a pretty poor division to start with. There is a reason that Hague has been in and out of the UFC so many times.
I agree
But eventually that will change. The UFC seems to sign fighters a lot and it’s only a matter of time before they get Overreem, cole Konrad, and a bunch of other HW’s to fill in spots.
Who's the last good HW they signed?
I think it was the 4 guys from TUF.

Well I'm saying that the UFC signs a lot of fighters.
In the past it hasnt necessarily been HW’s but they do sign a lot of fighters. Eventually there should be a few good HW prospects that come into the UFC radar. This could take a long time though. If I was in charge of signing people I would try to get
Fedor (Obviously this is easier said than done)
Tim Sylvia ( Ya I said it!)
Werdum, Overreem, Sergei Kharitonov, Cole Konrad, Shane Del Rosario, Lavar Johnson, Daniel Cormier, Big foot Silva, Damian Grabowski, Shamil Abdurahimov. The UFC won’t get all of them but I’m sure they could get a few

Fedor, Werdum, Overeem, Kharitonov, Konrad, Del Rosario, Johnson, Cormier, and Bigfoot are all locked up for the foreseeable future so bringing them up is pointless.
What you don’t seem to be understanding is that it’s not as simple as ‘go out and sign some guys!’ The HW division is shallow throughout the sport – it’s quite unlikely that the UFC is going to fill Hague’s place with some exciting prospect when that hasn’t been the case the previous two times he’s come and gone.

I don't think bringing them up is pointless at all.
The UFC wants the best fighters in the world and Strikeforce is getting a lot of good talent as of late. I feel the in a year to a year in a half the UFC will have signed 5 of the 12 fighters I named. Just an opinion though
The UFC has 21 Bantamweights, 26 Featherweights, 57 Lightweights, 51 Welterweights, 41 Middleweights, 35 Light Heavyweights and 27 Heavyweights listed on their site. Even if they signed all ten of the guys currently ranked in the top 25 that they don’t have now (and they aren’t ever going to re-sign Pedro Rizzo so that would be 9 outstanding) they would still be one of the smaller divisions they have. They are a thin division.
Of the 27 HWs on their site, four are Heath Herring (has not fought since 2008, is making a lot more money in Hollywood, and also appears to be persona non grata), Antoni Hardonk (has retired), Anthony Perosh (is dropping to LHW to fight Tom Blackledge in Australia, and will almost certainly stay there if he wins or get cut if he loses), and the aforementioned Mr. Hague. Chad Corvin, who is not listed, might technically still be under contract, as he signed, got injured, and has never fought for the UFC. Anyway at most they have 24 active HWs while all 26 of their FWs appear to be active, and FW and BW seem to both be growing.
At the rate their going they’ll be tied with Bantamweight soon for smallest division.
This is irritating.
They can’t keep Hague because it goes against the notion that only elite fighters are housed in the UFC but they need a guy like him to feed to up and comers. Either keep him around as a low level gatekeeper or don’t but signing him to lose and then cutting him afterwards over and over is incredibly frustrating, particularly in a division as shallow as HW.

agree
this is getting borderline weird.
I mean, clearly Tim Hague is their go-to guy for “Hey, this guy needs a win, or a knockout”.
but…why just cut him immediately?
he’s right- he’ll be back.
by Body Triangle on Jan 27, 2011 11:04 AM EST up reply actions
Upon further thought, I'm guessing it's a cost cutting move.
They let him get build-up fights on someone else’s dime and then bring him back and cut him once he’s lost his value (ie he loses). Rinse and repeat.

But people don’t see him win. To their eyes he will still be on a losing streak.

A copout to criticism from people who follow the sport closely mebbe.
If someone says “I thought you guys only housed the best and there were no easy fights, what about Tim Hague?” Dana can say “This guy’s been tearing it up on the regional circuit, he belongs in the UFC, what the hell are you talking about?”

To me, the move is simple.
They like to bring him in for the reasons you said, but they don’t want to have to do that. Meaning, if he is under contract and not coming off a recent loss, they can’t cut him and then they’d OWE him another fight at some point. By cutting him, they aren’t forced to use him, but know he’ll sign any day of the week if they need him to.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

They need to release him every once in a while so his record isn't 15-36 though

I was hopin they'd feed him to Barry and let Barry avenge that loss
before they cut him.

You need to let some things go.
Not every loss needs to (or should) be avenged.

the golden age of mma heavyweights
Hague has to be one of the easiest to hit fighters I’ve seen in mma.
But since halfway decent heavies are hard to find this guy will be back before the end of the year as a last minute replacement of from smashing scrubs on the regional promotions.

Mitrione looks good, I would like to see Mitrione vs Lesnar… just to show why Lesnar should NOT be #2 above Fedor on the Consensus Rankings

Its actually better for him to get cut
It means he can make some money fighting on smaller shows until the UFC needs him again
"You should work for 15 minutes to knock your opponent out, submit him, or improve your position to give yourself the best chance of doing either." - Dan Hardy
SOOOOOOOO many fighters in the UFC now....
It’s getting REALLY competitive for roster spots. There can only be so many shows, and so many fights per show. 1 of 2 things are going to happen that is so great for the fans.
1. There will be more cards or
2. Higher quality fights top to bottom.
Honestly, both may happen given the inventory of fighters right now and the evolution of teams and training.
Plus they keep making more deals to show more prelims
So there can be better fights on the prelims because they more than likely won’t go completel unseen…which means that all of the main card fights can be full of the best matchups

I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.
Poor Hague is basically the UFC’s contractual punching bag, I just wish they treated him a little better, he’s always willing to take on a fight regardless of who it’s with. He recognizes where he stands with things, I just wish the UFC would reciprocate some of the good will that he’s shown towards them.
This same thing happened with all of the IFL Fighters that appeared on the impromptu Silva vs. Irvin card, most of them that lost got caught immediately, even though they helped the UFC counterprogram an affliction card.
ok lets compare side by side the top 7 HW’s in the UFC and Strikeforce
1 Cain Velasquez, Allistair Overeem
2 Junior Dos Santos, Fedor
3 Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum
4 Shane Carwin, Josh Barnett
5 Frank Mir, Brett Rogers
6 Minotauro Nogueira, Andrei Arlovski
7 Roy Nelson, Kharitonov
I’d say the UFC wins
