Daley vs. Shirai, Rodriguez vs. McSweeney Set for BAMMA 5
BAMMA has today revealed the official card for its February 26th event at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. BAMMA 5 will feature a headline fight between top British welterweight Paul Daley and Japan’s Yuya Shirai, champion of respected Japanese promotion DEEP.Scott Coker says Paul Daley’s Strikeforce title shot hinges on this fight (via Sherdog.com):
Both Daley and Shirai come into the bout on winning streaks - five fights in Shirai’s case, three in Daley’s.
The main card will also feature two titans colliding as London man James McSweeney tackles former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez who enters the fight on an unprecedented ten-fight win streak. Three more fights are set to be added to the main card "very soon" according to BAMMA.
"If (Paul Daley) loses, the deck’s gonna get reshuffled, and if he wins, then he’ll be the first in line to get the title shot (Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg)."Paul "Semtex" Daley (26-9-2) vs. Yuya Shirai (20-8)
Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez (45-11) vs. James "The Hammer" McSweeney (4-6)

Don’t think he beats Jeff Monson though. he fough 9 times alone in 2010, already fought in 2011 and has a fight slated for April. Sure he fights a couple more times b4 that one though

Anyone know...
…if the Ricco-MacSweeney fight is at heavy or LHW?

good id rather see him at heavy
if he gets to the 235-240 range of good weight he could do some damage in the UFC
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
He was supposed to fight at LHW at Israel FC but couldn’t make weight. I guess he smartly realized that he belongs in the HW division.
with how thin hw is and how naturally big ricco is its the right call
i’d like to see him fight barry, joey beltran or a guy like duffee if he ever makes his way back

Not to mention Mitrione, Rothwell and even Hague. There are a bunch of good fights for him if he ever did come back. I wouldn’t expect a title run, but he could be a decent gatekeeper.
damn i thought u meant mcsweeny could do some damage
i was like is this guy serious?

i HATE Mcsweeney so much!
TUF didn’t do him any justice. It made him look like a douchebag. The way he thought he was so good & picking on titties & meathead. The funny thing is he’s 4-6 hahaha! I hope ricco smashes him

Just another opportunity for McSweeney to pad his record.

Except the part where Ricco will leg kick him to death.

Heh...
Daley vs. Shirai… really? I expect a bit more from BAMMA.

I don’t. Daley’s submission defense and takedown defense continues to improve.

Wouldn’t it be crazy if Ricco ended up back in the UFC… and won the belt again? It won’t happen, but if it did, I’d probably cry.
Do we think this gets broadcast in the U.S. anywhere?
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
Tom Watson was blasting twitter a couple of days ago with the fact that he still hadn’t been paid by BAMMA for main eventing their 4th show against Alex Reid 4 months ago. These guys better watch out.
Still a Beer Monster.

This came up in the gym the other day.
Word is that he has been paid his purse, but not the portion of Reid’s he was supposed to receive on account of Reid showing up late for the weigh-in. Then BAMMA starts splashing out, (though to what tune I have no idea) on stars like Daley, who may have required a fair amount just to sign.
I really wish they wouldn't announce the fights so late.
Although seeing a possible Daley knockout must be worth it.
I hope this card is a success
BAMMA put on good shows (I was at BAMMA 4 andf it was a great day of fights) and foster some exiting domestic and international talent. The UK needs a flagship show as there’s been kind of a nebulus since Cage Rage folded

I was thinking about getting tickets for this actually. I’ve never been to an MMA event before and this one is on my door step with Paul Daley head lining.

What is it about hammers?
I’d like to see a vicious submission master call himself “The Wrench” just for a change of pace.

LOL @ McSweeney and Ricco being referred to as “Titans.” What an insult to the fictional race. Also, perhaps Mcsweeney should change his nickname to “The Nail.”
