Nick Thomas had mentioned in a previous article about TitanFC 16 that "New York Bad Ass" Phil Baroni would be making an appearance during the weigh-ins. Titan said there would be an announcement made by NYBA during the weigh-ins for Titan FC 16 concerning their next fight card. Well, the cat is out of the bag as a press release was sent out at 7:22pm EST by Titan FC stating that they have indeed signed the exciting Welterweight and Middleweight to a multi-fight contract. Baroni after signing this new deal:
"I'm very happy and excited to re-start my career with Titan Fighting in Kansas City," said Baroni. "I have another chapter to write and it starts March 25. The best NYBA 'eva is fighting for Titan... People love a comeback."
Baroni has lost 3 straight fights, all during his lastest UFC tenure, which ended after a 1st rd stopage by Brad Tavares at UFC 125 New Years Day. It was his first fight back at Middleweight since losing to Joey Villasenor at EliteXC: Primetime, May 31st of 2008. As a fellow New Yorker and fighter in my own right(been battling Pancreatic Cancer for over 5 years, beaten it 3 times but currently in my 4th fight against it), I hope the best for NYBA in the future. Gotta admire a person who doesn't give up or quit, no matter what people may say. Jay Cutler could take a page out of that book, lol.
UPDATE: Current rumor of Baroni fighting "Mr.International" Shonie Carter at TFC 17 on March 25th is false. In an email I sent to Phil last night, I got a simple reply of "NOT TRUE". Here is the email at the bottom:
