4 fight winning streak?

He has not beating world class fighters by any means. I wonder how well he does against a Carwin, Cain, Lesnar, or JDS. I am sure he can last more than he did against Fedor, no?

I really don’t see how that’s relevant. Are you complaining that they’re stating a fact about his current winning streak?

by MemphisMike on Jan 25, 2011 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

No. I am not complaining about the reporting

I just think Tim Sylvia’s wins are a joke. that’s all. It has nothing to do with BloodyElbow’s reporting, which is top notch. Tim Sylvia == Irrelevant.

you would make an amazing promoter
Tim Sylvia comes in with a couple recent wins… but none of them are against anybody relevant. Really, it’s been a little while since anyone took him seriously. There are guys out there who would just wreck him…. so yeah, whatever. Buy the card or don’t, like I give a fuck.

I would say

come to see the fight to see if he can get knocked out in less than 23 seconds :-).

Way to bad mouth a warrior. I don’t see the point in talking shit on a once great fighter that still goes out and fights for our enjoyment. Whats your point?

If Sylvia wants back in the UFC

then what’s the point of fighting Wagner? Shouldn’t he be focused on Rizzo?

by kreally on Jan 25, 2011 2:53 PM EST reply actions

He’s doing what he needs to do. Fight constantly, keep working to get in better shape and get wins.

Yeah, but if he ends up breaking something or Wagner pulls off a miracle KO, then he might not get cleared to fight in February against Rizzo. Rizzo is a much bigger name than Wagner and the UFC will look at that win much more closely when considering letting Sylvia back in the UFC.

by kreally on Jan 25, 2011 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

Two things...

First, the Rizzo fight isn’t signed. Second, Tim has been ko/tko once in his career and it took a former HW boxing champion to do it. I don’t care how old Mercer is, he puts a clean shot on ANYBODY in 4 oz gloves and they are going out.

I don’t think the Rizzo fight is even going to happen.

Actually, he took this fight because Duffee backed out to take a bigger payday by fighting Overeem. Monte Cox represents Tim and Todd both and asked Tim to take the fight. Tim actually didn’t want to fight for awhile because he was wanting to spend time with his newborn baby boy. Tim has been juggling training 2-3 times a day and being a first time dad. Look for him to make very short work of Wagner.

Is this where I make my usual gripe about stupid, no-HDNet-having Comcast?

still think big tim wouldn’t be a bad next fight for mitrione, if they’re not ready to give meathead anyone with ground chops yet. maybe if he looks good against abe, he’ll get another shot.

by woooburn on Jan 25, 2011 3:17 PM EST reply actions

At this point, Sylvia would be a good gatekeeper type in the UFC. I can see him testing prospects like Schaub or Mitrione to see whether or not they are ready for the upper-tier. He can also be the Heavyweight to fight another Heavyweight who may be on his way out. Moreover, Sylvia versus any of the top UFC fighters would not be bad matchups at all.

I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.

by chrisbboy82 on Jan 25, 2011 9:10 PM EST up reply actions

If time wins the UFC should sign him, I think he would be a good pickup, even if he wont be a contender fights with guys like Barry, Meathead, Shaub, would be good fights and good tests for these guys, and if he did do well and won some fights match him with Mir again, Cro Cop etc.

But whats NYBA announcing? A fight for the next card or something?

by Aldo27 on Jan 25, 2011 3:18 PM EST reply actions

Yes. March 25th in KC.

I hope to see Big Timmy back in the UFC this year. I’m not a big fan or anything but god knows they need some credible fighters for the upper and mid tier of their HW division, and he’s been looking pretty good lately.

by Horselover Fat on Jan 25, 2011 3:37 PM EST reply actions

Against who though? I cant say I really care, its not like it needs some big announcement during the show.

And why is HDnet airing bullshit like this and not Tachi Palace?

I mean I’d rather they do a deal with TPF so we can see the Flyweights.

Gomez/Montague for the Flyweight title, Formiga/McCall, the next card Dodson/Vila.

But on the upcoming TPF card the Flyweight title, M W title and Formiga on the card, I’d rather see that then this card.

Or do a deep to show SHooto, Deep, even Ring of Combat in NJ.

by Aldo27 on Jan 25, 2011 3:39 PM EST reply actions

You’re overly negative. For one, Tachi is being streamed on MMA Junkie just like last time, that’s why HDNet isn’t doing it. You’re not considering cost-effectiveness. Shooto/DEEP shows are not going to be broadcasted on HDNet. RoC? Who knows. But this card really isn’t that bad, and if they want to use Baroni to grab some viewers, more power to them.

It’s free MMA. Stop complaining.

You think it's as simple as HDNet wanting to do it?

I know there were negotiations with DEEP sometime last year but it didn’t work out.

If Jason High wins, the UFC should consider giving him another shot. He’s coming off a win over Sakurai and picked up two other wins before that since being released from the UFC.

If he ever had a chin, it's shattered now

Even looking at his last fight, I don’t see a way he survives the punchers the UFC has.
