shockingly

I think this is the best poster they’ve had in a while. You’ve got good, but not glaringly ugly color contrasts, hyping the city it’s in, fighters not in the standard “look at each other from one half of the poster” pose. This is actually better than most, imo

To me the color differences from blue, to red, and yellow was the most fugly thing about this poster. But I am by no means artistically laid.

The top is a 2011 Tito Ortiz.

So explain to me again how what you said is accurate.

by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Jan 25, 2011 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

Lol, you could take pleasure in seeing Tito potentially lose to Nog? It could still be a good fight despite a 2011 Tito, good point though.

by Cpt Mason on Jan 25, 2011 11:06 AM EST reply actions

I don't think they'll

cut Hardy quite yet. He’s still a big part of the draw in Britain. I hope Hardy wins but I think Tony might wrestle the shit out of him.

by Daveyboy on Jan 25, 2011 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

i highly doubt rumble tries to wrestle

his defensive bjj has been awful in previous performances and while hardys not exactly rickson gracie he did display a good ability to survive on the ground against gsp and might have the skills to sub him

expect it to be a standup war

Kevin Burns is the last guy, I think. Rumble actually has some decent wrestling, and with his size, he can get his opponents on the mat. He really should try and wrestle with Hardy to win this fight.

I love when MMA Live does a post show, which they are doing for 126 which is great, I beleive they will do one for 128 in NJ and 129 in Toronto as well.

But yeah the 4 Versus shows I’m sure they will do a pre and post show on Versus, which i really like.

by MMA_Revolution on Jan 25, 2011 11:24 AM EST reply actions

Simple, Hardy is from teh UK, a market the UFC wants to continue to build it, and Hardy is the biggest star in the UK behind Bisping I believe, so he wont get cut, its pretty simple.

What people have to realize is there are a few things that will determine if the UFC cuts your or not.

Are you a big star/draw?
Do you put on exciting fights
Have you been with the company long and helped them out?

like Bonnar will never get cut, Wandi could lose but if he puts on exciting fights, Leben as well they wont get cut, if your a mega draw/star you wont get cut, with Hardy he is a big star in a market the UFC is building in, so you keep him.

If Franklin loses a few fights he wont get cut cause he has been a company man who has been with the UFC and has helped them, took fights at 195, moved to LHW when they wanted him to, filled in on TUF for them, took the fight with Chuck, so he was a loyal company man for them and they will reward him for that.

So Hardy could lose to Rumble and still not get cut.

Machida isnt a huge star, he isnt what Hardy is in the UK, it may not be fair but its the truth, after Bisping Hardy is the second most popular mma fighter in the UK I believe.

Not me

Went to the Showtime Bantamweight tournament in Tacoma. They offered great action and fighters at a great price.

This is a lackluster lineup for an overpriced ticket. Portland gets Nog/Randy as a first-time main event and we get a 2011 Tito? Discerning consumers would do well to stay away and demand better from Dana & Co. The whole point of the merger is we weren’t supposed to have to put up with bullshit main events like this anymore.

by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Jan 25, 2011 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

Is the fact that it's not a PPV reflected in the live-ticket price?

Because the lowest I’m seeing is $148, and it’s an insult to my intelligence to ask me to pay $150 to sit at the top of the Key Arena and watch a card the main event of which is a 2011 Tito Ortiz.

I paid $50 to sit in the tenth row and watch back-to-back contenders for Fight of the Year at the EQC.

Def a really good fight night card.

Tito/Nog and Rumble/Hardy, I mean honestly these could be on a PPV main card, Tito/Nog def has the names to be the 4th or 5th main card fight, and same with Hardy/Rumble.

You get

Tito/Nogs
Rumble/Hardy
Bang/Amir
Nam/Garcia

Then you have stud BW prospect McDonald vs Pace, Hathaway/McCray, Madsen, Russow, McCorkle, Mackens, Miranda, Simpson, thats a good card.

I wish it was a 5 fight main card though, I want to see McDonald/Pace and see Hathaway how he bounces back after losing.

But this is a dam good fight night.

Just it seems strange why they didnt do this as the lead in to TUF?

Normally they do that, and think about it, Tito/Nogs and Rumble/Hardy fight night leading into TUF with Brock, think of how big that night would have been for mma fans and Spike.

You’d get 3 mill people to tune into the main event easy, I just saw the Troops peaked at 2.5, so with Tito you def probably do 3 mill, then Brock on TUF, they would def draw 4 to 5 mill for the debut episode, wonder why they decided to do it like this.
