We'll also be talking last night's UFC Fight for the Troops 2 including the outstanding performance of Melvin Guillard, whether Matt Mitrione has a future as a contender in the heavyweight division and whether Mark Hominick has a chance to defeat UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo.
And, of course, we'll also be taking all of YOUR calls. It's toll free anywhere in North America, so don't be shy.

Can you ask Coker point-blank about the spread of misinformation about the tournament?

Specifically, telling everyone that the commissions denied the 5-rd fights, when they claim he never even approached them.
The only five-round fight will be the final. Earlier in the week, Coker expressed his desire for all of the tournament fights to be scheduled for five rounds. On today’s conference call, he announced that all quarter- and semi-final bouts would be three rounds, while the championship fight would be five rounds, claiming that Strikeforce couldn’t guarantee that all of the commissions involved would agree up front to sanction five-round non-title fights. ESPN’s Josh Gross repudiated the excuse somewhat claiming that California, New Jersey, Missouri, and Tennessee were all fine with the idea, and that Strikeforce hadn’t approached them about it. While losing five-round fights pains me, it’s much more optimal in my eyes to maintain a symmetrical format throughout the tournament rather than operate one line of the tournament under an altered ruleset.

I'm just curious as to why he did that.
I don’t care about the number of rounds so long as it’s consistent for every fight, and a large part of me doesn’t give a damn if Coker lied about that. Dana lying about TUF 11 bothered me more because it shows how much contempt he has for us – even when the evidence that he’s wrong is wide-spread, he sticks with the official story, like the Soviets claiming there were no missiles in Cuba. Coker just seems to be covering his hide, & I want to know why he felt the need to do that.

They said they were figuring out whether they wanted 3 or 5 round fights. They went with three round fights. Nothing else was ever announced. I don’t see a story there, I see a distraction that people want to use to squash the story. I expect Luke is too smart to focus on the minutiae.
by Jonathan Snowden on Jan 23, 2011 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
Also, people took Gross talking to a handful of commissions, half of which weren’t even considered potential sites for the WGP, as proof positive that Coker’s stated worries about getting 5 rounders regulated was untrue. Obviously that doesn’t account for all the other potential sites for the WGP and whether or not they’d allow the rule adjustment… of course, this doesn’t stop the inattentive usual suspects from running with it. Strikeforce suggested a special format I liked and then didn’t end up using it…. WHAT A MESS!!! REGIONAL!!!

would be interested to hear your thoughts on wiman's performance last night
and whether you think cole miller’s tendency to get so worked up before his fights (yelling across the cage to wiman last night, for example) is detrimental to his performance, or if he simply got bested.
thanks for fielding this one luke

Cause the AFC Championships are gonna be on later, is this going to delay tonight's MMANation?

I’m currently reviewing the fights that I missed and I was curious if you see any potential in him. I poo-poo’d all over him thinking he’d never get anywhere especially seeing TUF HWs but part of me feels like with enough training he could potentially be a contender.
Also am I the only one that feels that Pat Barry is either too nice or lacks the killer instinct? Cause he could’ve easily obliterated dem legs.

Scott, he’s been out of the “competitive” MMA scene in America for a lot longer than two years. And it’s hard to call a guy top ten when he just entered his fifth year of fighting subpar, normaly non-top 25 competition.

Who is the other guy on this show cause he doesnt seem to know anything about this sport.
Meathead cant beat GOnzaga? Yeah he can. SHaub? Meathead def can beat SHaub, with his size, strength, reach, power and athleticism, thats a good fight, I think the only thing that hurts Meathead is no wrestling, but he has size, strength, power and reach and has good strikign working with Barry and Pettis.
And Struve is fighting Browne and Cro COp and SHaub are fighting, and Kongo/Carwin should be fighting, so Rothwell or Madsen could be options, Madsen i think has a fight but he has wrestling and could be a test for Meathead.
madsens a dangerous fight for every heavyweight
hes got good wrestling, no name, and he looks and sounds boring
he can take just about anyone whose not one of the elite guys

Pete Rock or Premo?
I say Pete Rock and I feel like I’m the only one that feels that way.
Rza my #3
They made a video game about Yakuzas. It’s called Yakuza. And it’s about Yakuza
Pete Rock, easily.
Pete Rock is one of the most technical hip hop producers around, and his career started way back. Premo has always made great beats, but he has the same drums on most of his tracks.
Premo is great though, the experimental stage he had was kind of cool. Mass Appeal, where he didn’t throw any kicks down on the first count, but you couldn’t tell because of the loop.. shit was brilliant.
I can’t even try to put RZA on a list – the dude is too good. All the Wu-Tang albums, the solo albums all the members had, working with everybody else… I mean, even a random beat like Tres Leches off Capital Punishment just goes so hard. Incarcerated Scarfaces, as simple as it is, is one of my favorite beats.

Of course GSP/SIlva is MMA’s FLoyd/Manny.
How can anyone say no? Sure dont confuse the two, GSP/SIlva isnt as big in terms of the mainstream media, wont do the PPV buys, isnt as crucial for the sport, that has nothing to do with each other.
Simple question, is GSP/Silva mma version of Manny/Floyd, meaning the two best fightign each other, yes its clearly MMA’s mega fight, in fact i think its the biggest and best mma fight in history, the best WW vs MW ever top 2 P4P, that is a huge fight.
Its a fight that comes once in a lifetime, if they each win the UFC needs to strike while they can, cause wait to long one will lose, and dont count out Vitor or Jake, Vitor has hands and power and Jake is a bjj wiz. I think they both win but I could see Jake and Vitor winning the fights, its possible, so dont chance it if they each win, it will be the greatest mma fighter ever, they can hype the hell out of it.
Luke, if they did it would they do it in Toronto knowing GSP/Silva would sell 40 to 50k tickets I think or would they do it in Vegas?

CBS is the way to go
not PPV
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
So Luke, does this mean that just the Manny/SHane fight will be on SHowtime or will all Manny fights now be with SHowtime?
If its just one fight then who cares, that fight nobody cares about, sure it will be good for them but if its just one fight not a big deal, if they took Manny for good and all his fights will be with SHowtime thats bad I think.
Showtime isnt as big as HBO, 24/7 is great, I dont care what CBS does for a preview show it wont be as good as HBO’s.
And Luke they wont drive any SHowtime subscriptions, its gonna be on PPV not SHowtime, so whose gonna buy Showtime cause of this?
yeah if Manny vs SHane was on SHowtime it would but its not, its on SHowtime PPV, so why would anyone buy SHowtime cause of this?
I cant believe CBS will air fight camp 360 on network TV other than at infomercial times. I just cant fathom that. If they do actually air it, that’s a pretty big deal.
The production isnt even close to HBO’s but if CBS is willing to air a hype documentary on using decent real estate that is pretty big.
I think they’ll pair it with novelty fights or someone who can move the needle like Cotto or Juan Manuel Lopez. Fight Camp 360 is a lot better than you make it sound, some of the episodes at the start of the Super Six were riveting.
Nevermind, here is a report detailing how it will work:

I seem to say this every week...
Stoupe is the man, Vinnie Paz is kind of one-dimensional, and Jus Allah forgot how to rap. Somehow they made really enjoyable music.

Luke and Othello were accurate
A lotta angry rape music. No chorus, just angry rape. Nothing wrong with that.
They made a video game about Yakuzas. It’s called Yakuza. And it’s about Yakuza
Paz one-dimensional really?
Idk man I dig on a lot of his shit

Oh I love Paz's music.
But most of the time, he writes sixteen bars where there’s a metaphor every other line and it’s all about how he’s better than other rappers, boxing, or guns. Some of the best rappers ever are fairly one-dimensional in my book… I still enjoy them.

You ma fuckas dont belong in rap
Fuck with me you got a better chance taking an abortion back
Instant Paz fan material

I like Jedi Mind’s guests better than Paz or the other guy.

Yep
And occasionally “name” guys like GZA and Kool G Rap.

He's a weird dude.
When he’s on though, he’s honestly one of the best I’ve heard.

Thats my thing
He’s got potential but I get this “I’m just gonna try and be funny” thing from him

You hear the old Demigodz EP he was on?
He did this one track with Apathy…
by Brent Ducharme on Jan 23, 2011 10:58 PM EST up reply actions
Well, now this post serves two purposes:
1. The guest is the best rapper
2. This track proves that I’m an asshole and Paz isn’t one-dimensional.
by Brent Ducharme on Jan 23, 2011 10:46 PM EST up reply actions
oh, I LOVE that one. It’s one of the first JMT tracks I ever heard.

Didn't he get out of his SF deal and go to Bellator?

Who would dare fight the great Jay Hieron?
My favorite part was Jay saying Zaromskis wasn’t a big enough name top fight him. Really?
by Jonathan Snowden on Jan 23, 2011 10:39 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah that quote was ridiculous
But come on, you now there was a reason they didn’t book a strong wrestler in Hieron against Diaz. I’m still questioning if they book T-Wood against Diaz.

Here’s the argument: Cyborg beat the former #1 contender, Marius Zaromskis, and he is vastly improved in recent fights. And he is actually one of the best brazilian muay thai fighters in the division. Nobody at 170 counters kicks with kicks like he does.
I hear you
But this is really reaching.
