Mike Guymon opened the round with leg kicks only to jump into a double leg, but DaMarques Johnson stuffed it and hit a lateral drop to take Guymon down. After briefly working from side control, Johnson moved to full and then Guymon's half guard, landing ground and pound the entire time. With more than half of the round left, Johnson slid into side control and then immediately into mount. A la Couture vs. Sylvia, Johnson took Guymon's back but Guymon rolled to keep Johnson's back to the mat. Using double under hooks to flatten Guymon out with a body triangle, Guymon appeared to verbally tap.

Upon further review, it appeared Guymon suffered some sort of rib or lower back injury. 3:22 of the first round due to verbal tapout is how the bout ended.
