This is a gimme fight
A perfect example of a squash match. They’re a feeding Jens a Can. There’s no reason that he shouldn’t win this. And if he does he needs to retire on the spot.
In this manila envelope? The results of my insanity.

Pulver is 1-8 since 2006
If he is going to keep fighting then cans like this are exactly who he should be fighting.

Didn't Jens get an opponent with a losing record...
over at an event in Australia, and he ended up getting knocked down and guillotined in the first round? I could be wrong though. Regardless, I’m just hoping this doesn’t happen to him again this time.

Nope
You’re probably thinking about his last fight against Diego Garijo, who was 5-1 going into the fight.
In this manila envelope? The results of my insanity.

Garijo was supposed to be a squash match too.
No sure wins for Jens at this point.

A 5-1 n00b =/= 6-19 Can
Garijo was a winnable fight. Lindquist is a squash match.

In Jens defense
or lack of sub defense as it were, all his recent losses are against world class competition and a noob with a pretty damn good record and promise of future potential. That being said, God I hope he’s been working the Jits.
He was training with Jeremy Horn 10 years ago.
It’s not like he’s new to jits. He caught Swanson in a guillotine. His game just is what it is now. He’s not going to add any new wrinkles in his mid/late 30s. He needs to get off the circuit.
The way most guys do that is either open a gym or with a media gig. Jens tried to open a gym in Idaho; it failed. Luckily he has shown himself to be an adept and fun commentator in the past, if not a particularly polished one. Using him for variety on some of the Fight Nights or UFC Lives would give Rogan a travel break and get some much needed professional experience in the booth.

They are not equal, I grant you, but I say again:
There are no “sure wins” for Jens at this point.
by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Jan 20, 2011 3:21 PM EST up reply actions
I had to look at this a few times to see if I was seeing it right. His opponent is 6-19 and both of them have lost 4 straight fights. Where can I get tickets for this? The only thing I can compare to this is watching the Washington Wizards on the road (0-20) vs the worst team in the NBA at home.

And 8 of his last 9
It’s so sad that he still has to fight. Makes you worried about his future.
Unfortunately
theres a good case thats still the Wizards. I’ll be at the Verizon center saturday night cheering on my Celtics though :)

Loss Ryan Thompson – TKO (Retirement) TCF
dumb judges… jens always comes out of retirement!!!!
everything dana white says is a complete lie

LMAO
He’s fighting a guy who is 6-19?! Why is this allowed? Is this how far he has to fall before he gets a win to retire on?
it's allowed because
he’s lost his last 6 in a row. Shit, I give Lunquidst credit for not being all that great, but continuing to try anyway.

jens was a good fighter in his day
hes not a hall of famer though

nope
hes in the hall of good, not hall of fame
not every old school champ belongs
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
dont let his downfall cloud how awesome of a fighter he was..
he belongs in the hall if not for being a great fighter for paving the way for lightweights
by TheDefenseNeverRests05akaUhOh!! on Jan 20, 2011 2:54 PM EST up reply actions
i dont at all
he was a very good fighter, won the title and defended it twice
but he was never really an elite fighter, which i think should certainly be a requirement for being in the mma hall of fame (which still doesnt exist, how can that get started btw?)
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
i dee where you're coming from.... Seriously tho
even PORN got a hall of fame
by TheDefenseNeverRests05akaUhOh!! on Jan 20, 2011 3:06 PM EST up reply actions
does it really?
wow thats stunning, but every single sport has a hall of fame except mma i dont really get it i know mma is relatively knew but someones gotta hop on this

I don’t care what y’all say about his opponent or whatever. Three things are still true:
1. That event poster is fucking cool.
2. I don’t care who he’s fighting. He could get KO’d by a badger and I’d still think Lil Evil is the man.
3. If I was anywhere in the vicinity of the show, I’d go just to thank him in person for doing the Driven documentary.

The guy he's fight has 6 wins over guys with a combined record of 5-21
And three of those wins have come against guys who only had one fight(which was against him). He has beaten the same guy twice as well. If Jens loses this fight he should quit life. I could beat Mike Lindquist…………….Ok I probably couldnt but you get the picture
Hang it up brother.

I don’t think any one on earth would hire Mike “The Assassin” Lindquist (6-19) to pull a hit on anyone.

Can someone get this guy a commentating or coaching job already?
So sad to see him continue to fight solely for financial concerns.
by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Jan 20, 2011 1:45 PM EST reply actions
or he could, ya know, find himself a regular job like the rest of us. he’s got a criminal justice degree, go be a cop or something

Right, why should he be able to earn a decent living in the sport he was a pioneer in and made such sacrifices to? Better that Lesnar gets seven-figure paydays every time he deigns to emerge from the wilds of the Dakotas than Jens be able to feed his wife and infant son.
by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Jan 20, 2011 3:20 PM EST up reply actions
firstly, none of us know what his financial situation really is.
secondly, he’s been a commentator before, and he just isn’t good at it. then again, neither is Goldberg or Todd Harris or Frank Shamrock, but at least they have good voices and don’t mumble.
coaching: unless you can manage to own and operate a gym and employ a bunch of other coaches (who have day jobs), there ain’t much money in just being an instructor.
finally, i respect the hell out of what he did for the sport, but we all make sacrifices. i’ve lost jobs, taken jobs i didn’t want to, moved to cities i didn’t want to move all in order to help support my family. it’s called learning multiple skills and having contingency plans for yourself. sorry, but my sympathy for people who chose to follow their dreams (and subsequently have things go downhill) rather than take a more conventional, sustainable approach to life only extends so far.
you don’t get handed anything in life unless you somehow make other people a shitload of money just by being you (i.e. your Brock Example).

He had a gym. And a clothing company. Now he has neither. What happened? Depends who you ask, I’m sure. This is a guy who admitted once to not training before a fight because he was busy playing World of Warcraft, so excuse me if I lack a ton of sympathy for the guy.
I wonder if he’s talked with Pat Militech since he threw him under the bus? LOL

Well, that’s just patently untrue, so you’ll excuse me if I don’t read the rest of your post and ignore you going forward.

i love Jens
but … it’s past time for him to retire. i feel bad for him. i understand he’s got a family to take care of, and he’s got a fighter’s heart … but to all of us comes a time when it’s over.
My first novel is now available in trade paperback. Take a look: http://tinyurl.com/2ag7njo
Going out on top
I respect Jens and think that he was a great fighter but fighting someone just so that you retire on a win, come on. Elway’s last game was a Super Bowl win, Jens last fight(hopefully) is some D level fighting organization against some no name.
