What if Fedor loses to Silva?
Surely not possible…

I just happen to be in the "Silva is overrated" camp
Fedor is not unbeatable but Silva almost lost to Mike Kyle. Nothing against Mike Kyle…

And Werdum almost lost to Silva.
And Fedor definitively lost to Werdum. So where does that leave us?

I don't about the almost part
Silva was badly hurt. Also, Werdum is a heavyweight. Mike Kyle is really a light heavyweight. I just find Silva to be too slow and don’t give him any chance against Fedor. Nil. And this comes from a guy who is not a Fedor fan at all.

Kyle could knock out a lot of heavyweights. Bigfoot is not a world beater but he is massive, solid ground game and good power. He could definitely beat Fedor.
I still think Fedor does the same thing Kyle did except finish him but anything could happen.

Didn’t Matt Hughes almost lose to Frank Trigg? Didn’t Briock Lesnar almost lose to Shane Carwin? Didn’t Big Nog almost lose to Bob Sapp? Didn’t Cung Le almost lose to Scott Smith? Didn’t GSP actually lose to Matt Serra? “Almost losing” and sometimes even “losing” doesn’t always indicate what the relationship is in talent level between said fighters.

um I think I explained to you, Silva is considered a top 10 heavyweight
by some folks. He “almost” got killed by a light-heavyweight. Don’t give me Lesnar, Hughes stuff man. I ain’t talking about those. Frank Trigg was not a lightweight when he fought Matt Hughes. Carwin was not a light heavyweight.

And Mike Kyle was not a Light Heavyweight when he fought Bigfoot
He was 219. Not 206 or 210, 219. Less than 10 pounds lighter than Fedor.
BJ will enter the cage 15-20 pounds lighter than Fitch, does that make it a LW vs. WW fight in your mind?
What about Kampmann, he has fought at MW? Or where do you put Shields with this sort of logic?

I wish this tournmament was round robin though
meaning that Overeem, Fedor, Werdum, and Silva all faced each other once and the winner advanced to the final. Oh well :) Chadd Griggs… haha. That standup was justified. I mean Lashley had his 10 seconds on the ground and did not manage to do anything in that short period of time. And he was tired, so that justifies standing him up

"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
Very Possible. There’s value on Silva for sure.
Antonio isnt a top HW by any means but Fedor has clearly degraded – we just dont know by how much.
I think he’s lost enough of a step and his training in todays MMA is so obsolete that Antonio can win.
The fight against Brett Rogers was very telling and Brett who’s nothing more than a jobber in the division didnt even have a real training camp.
Even though big foot isnt a top tier guy he’s still solid and probably the best opponent Fedor has faced since fighting crocop in 2005. Big foot is a better fighter than werdum… even though technically he lost to werdum it was pretty clear who the better fighter was. And obviously Antonio is a better fighter than Arlovski.
The only thing that’s concerning for Antonio is the speed difference but if he comes in shape like he did against Arlovski that should be mitigated. Fedor could catch him with the right hand But in a 3 rd fight I think Antonio will win if he fights a smart game.
Fedor has become obsolete…. it hasnt been apparent because he hasnt been fighting the top guys and it’s finally caught up to him. People for the longest time thought Frank Shamrock could still compete with guys like franklin and hendo until he lost to Renzo Gracie.
Imagine if Matt Hughes never fought GSP the second time and instead of fighting guys like Fitch, Alves, Kos, etc… he spent the last 4 years fighting guys like Karo Parysian and then got caught by the 170lb version of werdum (ricardo almeida)… people would still beleive he could compete with the GSP’s , Fitch’s and Alve’s.
Now Fedor fighting Bigfoot isnt comparable to Matt Hughes fighting Fitch, Alves or GSP. It’s more like Hughes fighting guys like Kampmann, Condit, Hardy, Paulo Thiago, Diego Sanchez.
I wouldnt favor Hughes so highly against those guys and Im not favoring Fedor so highly over Big Foot.
There’s Value on Big Foot and I’d bet on him to win this fight.

Fedor has become obsolete?
That ignorance of that statement can never be overstated.
by Menime on Jan 19, 2011 8:30 PM EST up reply actions 4 recs
Also keep in mind Fedor lost his sambo fight to a bigger grappler. Big Foot could keep Fedor down as long as he can get the takedown without getting ko’d.
its a possibility
but he showed remarkably crisp boxing against arlovski, i think hes gonna stand with fedor for a while to test it out let the russian break his hand then go for the takedown if things arent looking that great on the feet
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
nothing like a nice glass of Fedorhate to go with the "MMA logic"
It’s easy to argue a negative:
If Fedor wins it’s really unimpressive, but if Silva wins it proves how obsolete Fedor really is.

What exactly did Rogers do?
He landed one jab, 2-3 ground strikes (and Fedor put himself there with a failed submission attempt), and held him on the fence for a few seconds. That’s it.
I don’t get how people think Rogers had him in trouble or even won the round.
An all Heavyweight Strikeforce main card, huh? I know that this is being optimistic, but I think that Strikeforce may actually have a great year in MMA as far as having consistently solid cards and some relevancy.
I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.

VO vs Sefo, not really. But I’d rather see that fight than Hague vs Mitrione tbh.
Villante on the other hand, I am extremely excited to see. The kid is a serious prospect and it’s nice to see him on a card that so many people will be watching.

Shane Del Rosario vs Lavar Johnson?
I’m not sure why Rosario is fighting Johnson. Isn’t that guaranteed to kill off the momentum of one of your top heavyweight prospects? Wouldn’t it make more sense to pair each of them up with Sefo and Lessereem? A winnable fight against an opponent with a little more recognition in the fighting community? I don’t know maybe those fights wouldn’t be as winnable as I’m figuring.
Anyway, I’m not going to nitpick anymore. Really hyped for the Arlovski/Kharitonov fight. I’m curious to see what each of them can still offer.

Agreed.
Lavar will never be in the upper echelon, but Shane shows a lot of promise.
Pretty much
I like Lavar though, would like to see him against guys like Sergei, Rogers, and Arlovski. Although I am not sure he would beat any of them.

I really like this card
the top 3 are awesome matchups. i think strikeforce has a deep enough pool of talent, plus one loss for johnson or del rosario isnt going to kill them.
I think SF will be seeing lots of up and coming talent. M-1 Global is actually bringing a lot of talent to fighting, and they will only grow from here. They have control over a growing group of russian MMA fighters.
Werdum beat Fedor, Dos Santos beat Werdum, Joaquim Ferreira beat Dos Santos. Therefore Ferreira is WAAAAY better than Fedor. Keep MMA math alive!

Well Strikeforce had to cut a trailer that could only feature 2 Fedor fights, one of which is a loss. They didn’t have much to work with.
How much footage did it have of Fedor?
It’s a great trailer, but it had footage of everyone, used some non-SF footage, and was several minutes long.
This one is about one event, and is basically a copy of the commercial that Showtime runs on TV so it’s only 30 seconds long. It’s basically like the short UFC commercials.
Well remember when he debuted all they used were those photos of Fedor vs Silvia and Arlovski.

I thought the UFC owned Affliction footage? Wasn’t Nelson/Arlovski an Affliction fight? Or because it was shown on an EXC event, does that make it EXC’s footage that Strikeforce bought?
Both the UFC and HDNET can use Affliction
The Arlovski/Nelson fight was aired on CBS, so naturally Showtime can use that. It does not matter who promoted or signed it.
