i would bet that if they were standing sideways, Arlovski would be much thicker from front-to-back. I would also wager that Arlovski’s legs are much thicker. it’s the same story of the picture of Bader and Cain where Bader looks bigger.

You’re probably right about Jones and Arlovski, but Bader might actually be bigger than Cain. Bader’s ripped and Cain’s kinda chubby.
Muscle/fat composition vis-a-vis cutting
I’ve heard somewhere that cutting from a lot of body fat is harder than a lot of muscle since you can’t dehydrate the fat like you can muscle fibers. Could Bader be the same size as Cain and just cut down since he’s leaner?

possibly. i still think Bader is probably slightly smaller than Cain. Cain has a big ass (pause). everybody’s body makeup is different. don’t forget about bone structure, too. the one thing you definitely cant cut is bone weight.

The more muscle you have the more weight you can cut.
Our body houses water and other fluids in several different ways and places. Knowing what system you can safely dehydrate is a key principal in weight cutting. Adipose tissue(body fat) in about 10% water. Muscle on the other hand, is composed of 80% water and is one of the few tissues that can be depleted of fluids without serious health repercussions. Therefore, the more muscle you have, the more (temporally)disposable water weight you have.
Guys like Thiago Alves, Gleison Tibau, Rumble have so much muscle they can cut massive amounts of weight. They also have problems with cardio. GSP has a perfect balance. Nate Marquardt is another guy.

He honestly does look chubby when compared to shredded fighters like Bader or stocky monsters like Lesnar or Carwin. He has that Fedoresque mystique about him in a way.

you can mobile rec with droid phones
just change the settings to allow the browser to open standard versions of pages. helps if you’re in a well populated area with good 3G signal, but it can be done

picture #1: what shoes are they wearing? AJ has a hat and baggy shirt. front-facing pic from waist up.
picture #2: what if they are comfortable sitting differently and have adjusted their chairs to different heights? also, AJ not in training camp mode is know to blow up more than most fighters.
picture #3: Randy has an 18 inch dong that weighs a good 10lbs and softball-sized nuts that weigh about 5lbs each.

If Fedor and BJ have taught us anything...
it’s that being totally jacked has nothing to do with being a great, highly skilled fighter.
Bones can definitely fight at HW someday, but there’s a long way to go at LHW before we should get too far ahead of ourselves, BE.

But in my opinion if Jon Jones fought Anderson Silva or Shogun tomorrow I would give Jon a damn good chance of winning. I personally feel he is being held back a bit by the UFC. Now seeing him stand next to AA I can see him with the HW belt in the future.

I am all for taking care of prospects, and even the progression of level of opponent has been okay, it just should have progressed much faster with far less down time for his (non-) recovery. He should have wrecked Maty a year ago or so…

Jones and Arlovski could definitely help each other out, but...
I can’t think of anything else Arlovski needs less than to start utilizing more unconventional striking. You know, like punching barrages and flying knees… but, maybe spinning elbows will yield different results than the other techniques did for Arlovski.

Best of luck to AA in the Strikeforce Tourney
I miss seeing Arlovski dominate. The man used to be one of the most feared in MMA. I still think he’s got an amazing skill set and excellent hands, so I’m hoping he does well in the tourney. It’d be nice to see some solid KOs come from his fists.

The cut was never that hard for him in the first place.
He is huge, but I think he’ll be able to maintain whatever body weight he wants. He is a professional after all.

I’ll try and find the interview, its recent.
IIRC, he said he’s getting bigger naturally but that he has leaned down this camp and feels like he will be a LHW for a while. He said he’s below 220 right now. Like 215 or something. Maybe he is anticipating a long, brutal fight and wants to have his cardio at its max.

I disagree
I think as a natural consequence of his training mixed with his age, Jones is going to add lean mass over the next 2-3 years unless he specifically trains to keep it off, sacrificing the gains in strength and power he should be making in the process…
