Today on "MMA Nation" we're going to be previewing what should be a gigantic February in the sport of mixed martial arts.
First, we'll talk to UFC 127 co-main eventer Jorge Rivera. Rivera takes on Michael Bisping in Australia in late February. We'll talk to Rivera about where he is in his career, how to stop Bisping, how his life changed after the death of his daughter and much more.
Then we'll get into the nuts and bolts of the next few big cards coming our way. We'll dive further into UFC 126 and how winners and losers there could shape the course of future events. We'll also give an update on the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, which is set to kick off February 12th in New Jersey.
And, of course, we'll also be taking all of YOUR calls. It's toll free anywhere in North America, so don't be shy.
"MMA Nation" will air tonight 9:00 p.m. ET to 11:00 p.m. ET on 106.7 The Fan. To listen live over the Internet, go to The Fan's website and click "Listen Live".

I don’t want to ruin your juju. Any discussion on Aoki potentially leaving MMA and what it means for rankings and the lightweight division?

yeah, I'm changing what I'm gonna talk about...TUF and the NY push
and how if Spike decides to go for ratings with frat house antics it could be detrimental to the NY push

ummmm Rampage Jackson is and will always be the worst….case closed. Brock will probably be quite intelligent and likable.

I was gonna go with Shamrock,
but to each his own.

Luke, this season will be big and do big ratings but it wont match Kimbo for one simple reason.
Kimbo fought on teh show, so didnt like 5 to 6 mill watch that episode Kimbo/Nelson?
Brock isnt fighting, yes the show as a whole will average great numbers, but it probably will average less then the Kimbo season cause Kimbo fought on that season, if Brock fought he would do 7 to 8 mill viewers easy on Spike.
Brock and Konrad will def teach these guys wrestling, and JDS team can bring in exactly what this guy said, Nogs, Machida, Anderson, and Aldo, they will bring in those all star guests.
But Brock and Cole Konrad helping these guys wrestle which is a major foundation for mma so they can learn alot of wrestling from them.
JDS will teach alot of striking and bjj.
The number one thing Brock brings as coach is eyeballs. The fighters on this season of TUF should be ecstatic how well known they’ll be from this year, just as Nelson has got to pleased he was on season 10 with Kimbo, Rampage, and Evans.

brock needs to lose this humble bs
i honestly think brock fights with attitude and when he was a jerk he fought better..sounds stupid but i honestly think he needs to b a A-hole to win..lol
Any chance that Brock/Dos Santos form a feud on the show?
That would be interesting AND scary as fuck.
"I guess I'm 13-Maynard, and Maynard..."- Frankie Edgar
Will people be pissed if Brock isnt a dick, doesnt flip out and actually cares about his fighters and teaches them?
Will people tune out if he isnt a jerk, isnt flipping out, being a dick, threatening to walk off the set, I think people want that, sure if he was nice and cared about the fighters and was a good coach some will look at him and think he is a good guy but doesnt that hurt him in a way? SUre like Rashad, I didnt like him, I’m not a tito fan but seeing how they were on TUF I liked them more cause of the way they cared about their fighters.
But dont people want Brock to be the dick? To be hated, they want to hate him, want to see him get his ass kicked, want to see him flip out, thats his appeal, what did you liek more? Brock flipping out after UFC 100, mount his wife, Coors, drooling barking at the camera, or UFC 116 Brock about how he is blessed and humbled etc?
SUre the 116 Brock I liked and enjoyed but UFC 100 Brock is the one we all want to see and talk about cause its just appealing.
Deep down we all want to see Brock bitch and moan and threaten to walk off the set, tear into his fighters if they suck and lose, being a dick cause its good tv, its entertaining, JDS is a nice quiet guy, Brock is the one who has to make this season entertaining, just like Kos had to do.
I really think getting sick changed Brock, being out for that year, losing the training time and all that, he needed to stay cocky and arrogant and a dick.
i like the ufc100 brock lesnar
sure ufc116 had the come back win of a true champion but brock needs to be a A-hole. that makes brock…seriously thats why so many freaking ppl hate him. brock at one point was walking the walk and talking the talk and no1 could beat him or shut him up..ppl hate it when a person could talk shit and back it up..i want the ufc100 brock back
Is Brock Lesnar NOT a high level elite fighter, a former champ and big time contender in the biggest MMA promotion in the world.

This caller doesnt understand that you have to get attention to get the fans.
Does he think if they put these great coaches that nobody knows then guess what, they wont watch.
You need to have Brocks and lure the fans in and then they will stick around and love the sport, but you have to get the fans in.
how is dana dropping the f bomb slowing mma progress down?
nothing wrong with dana…if it wasnt for him mma would still be nothing in the states…f bomb all day son
Nothing wrong with it, I mean the guy isnt on live tv on ESPN Dropping the f bomb, frankly Dana does more good, way more good, having a front man people care about and want to listen to, as opposed to say Scott Coker, who people could care less about and cringe when he talks.
dana is the man
and ur right. he isnt on Live tv on ESPN cussing…he is professional on live tv..but what i like bout dana stays dana.. he stays normal…dana is a fan of mma and he still gets freaking estatic when he talks mma..every1 needs to quit hating on that dude.
he is alot better
than that snake bob arum who lies with every breath. dana might be gruff, but he is a straight shooter

They arent doing frat house shit anymore.
Since season 8 they havent done shit, the biggest thing you can mention last season was walking in at a guy in the shower and seeing him jerking off and laughing about it?
I mean yes season 8 with pissing and jerking off in food was sick, I dont want to see that shit, but since then season 9 10 11 have been perfectly clean.
If you speak with Dan Severn you need to ask him
Who has a better mustache: Him or Don Frye.
Seriously, you have to do that.

That Dan Severn call was surreal.
"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"
Now I'm stoked that Luke asked that question.
AMAZING!

lol u think cain will make an appearance?
ya lol that would rub brock the wrong way and he might bull rush the camera man.
getting brock to snap on the show
will be the key to the ratings… his buttons need to be pushed, if this guy is super unpredictable as they say he is… it shouldn’t be too hard
Cain wont make an appearance, for what? He isnt connected to either team, unless they bring him in and be like he fights the winner of the coaches fight but that would be pointless.
They way they edit it will determine alot, after a few shows they will show Brock blowing up and tease that so you have to watch that episode and it will turn out to be nothing, just like they teased Kimbo could come back and get another fight but it never happened.
They will do stuff like that to add interest in the second half of the shows.
i can see cain comming in and talking to jds team
just bc jds is seems like a friendly dude but lol if dana brings cain in to talk to brocks team or just to both teams together its kinda like dana is trying to piss some1 off
Hey Luke, one show when you come back from break
Can you use Fugazi – Waiting Room? It’s got an epic opening.

Is their any word on some of the fighters that could be on the show?
I get the one reason they cant have the best prospects is cause if they dont speak English.
Like Edson Mendes, Oliveira, Chiquerim, they could have been on last season LW TUF.
So they cant get those great Brazilian prospects if they dont speak English.
But I hope Yuri Villefort is on this season, he was ranked the top WW prospect on this site, he is a beast, I believe he does speak decent English as well, he hopefully is on this season.
I dont get why Galvao was left off, he couldnt even make the top 28?
Tuf needs a top fighter that wins the show that they can say TUF still produces contenders, before you had to do TUF to get into the UFC, now you dont.
Now Jones, Davis, Edson, Oliveira etc can just sign with the UFC they dont have to do TUF.
I hope next season after this is FW/BW, get guys like Ronnie Mann. Get some top prospects that could just sign with teh UFC but instead go on TUF so you can build them up, plus your better off being on TUF where 2 mill people watch every week, more will know who you are rather then fighting on an undercard in the UFC.
bisping doesnt have power
but the kid is a boxer and is a gamer.
if he boxes with jorge
he will be sleepin, for sure. bad fight for bisping

First time tuning in, question about Rory McDonald
could you tell me your thoughts about Rory McDonald vs. Nate Diaz? I would have thought they would bring him up a little more slowly, considering he has potential to be a future champ.
If GSP goes up in the next year, my opinion is they have enough guys to potentially fill the void at the top for the coming years. Considering he is so young still, wouldn’t it be more advantageous to get him more octagon experience and bring him up slower?
Yeah but remember he was 7 seconds or whatever from either winning vs Condit or having a draw, either that last round was 10/8 and a draw or 10/9 and a win, so he did well vs Condit, so I dont think Diaz is a huge step up from Condit, so no I think its a great fight and an interesting fight.
Rory can win this fight then he really puts himself on the map as a legit top prospect that could make waves.
really?
how many times have we seen bisping hurt bad in the 1st round then come back and then outbox his opponent? stopping tds and if he does get put on his back (his guard is really good) he gets right back up. im not a bisping fan but u sound like ur not even given him a chance
i don't
but ive been wrong before. i want to see him stomped

Luke
Could you ask Jorge this for me-
Isn’t the steeper learning curve from MMA to boxing, as opposed to MMA to kickboxing indicative of the fact that MMA striking utilizes all 8 points (as they do in kickboxing/ muay thai)?
The hands aren’t the same in boxing as they are in MMA. The way you move, strike, hold your stance & guard is different from boxing, and it’s more of an adjustment than MMA -—> kickboxing.

They made a video game about Yakuzas. It’s called Yakuza. And it’s about Yakuza
The Bob Reilly opposition was based on having campaign contributions from a Union

And Bob Reilly has said it will cost the state a ton of money having MMA legalized.
So he’s saying a lot of things to scare voters both in and outside of the state senate.

Watching from Canada sucks,
listening to the radio online is only available in the US. I can watch the Ustream version, but I can’t hear whoever is on the phone, only Luke (missed the Rivera interview). Still a great show though.
3 rounds for the HW GP is okay
but its stupid that overeem is in the GP, the belt should be up for grabs if Overeem is in the GP.
are u kidding me that dan severn called in
motherfucker cant believe i missed it

Did Pride have any consideration for a draw in a Grand Prix? No AC so maybe they didn’t have to consider it.
If the tie breaking judge was AC appointed I think this would be an excellent idea.
Aside from the very earliest days of Pride, they weren’t allowed to score draws.

Bas said, in the middle of a broadcast, that Pride judging favored the finish. I think they also had guidelines that didn’t lend themselves to draws.
I think Crocop v Wanderlei was a draw? It was kind of bs.
It was agreed to in the contract that if that fight went the distance, it’d be ruled a draw.
