Mr. Stann
has a career in broadcasting in his future, Well spoken, honest, and just beat the crap out Chris Leben, which a very short list of fighters has accomplished.

Stann is going to get a push
and if they could get him a title shot somehow they would. He’d be a decent to good draw for sure.

At home behind a camera, a machine gun, commanding soldiers, saving lives, under a D-1 football helmet, defeating the worlds best martial artists winning world titles...
Even the shape of his face denotes strength and character subconsciously with it’s features. Symmetrical with a large jaw. He is the archetypal American hero. A movie about his life is already a lock to be produced.
Look at how fast he improved once he left the service and was able to train full time. Somewhat of a sloppy brawler originally, he beat a very young Steve Cantwell. Cantwell, at the time one of the most promising rising prospects then made huge technical improvements and drubbed him in the rematch. But once Cantwell got with Jackson he leap frogged the kid who leap frogged him to take the Rubber match, quite unexpectedly. Amazing stuff. Who does that?
Brain Stann’s sperm is probably worth more than it’s weight in gold. He isn’t genetically engineered to fuck your girlfriend, he’s just engineered to be better than you at everything and anything you’ll attempt in your entire life.

Once Stann* got with jackson
Man, I wish the UFC would get a hold of Tim Kennedy. A TUF season with those two as coaches = win.

I've never liked the fact that they bring in active fighters as analysts
It puts Edgar and Florian in an awkward position when they have to break down Dunham vs Guillard. What other sport does this? They bring in former coaches and retired fighters. Get Miletich talking, Liddell, Couture after Machida, Royce somebody who’s outside looking in.

well...
Other sports have seasons with games nearly every day, such as the NBA, MLB and NHL, or at the very least once a week like in the NFL. Thus the logistics of them appearing regularly would be very difficult if not impossible with their practice schedules. These guys have to prepare for the show in Bristol and don’t just roll up in there 20 minutes before filming. I have seen active but eliminated players and coaches on the NFL playoffs on ESPN in the last few weeks, and active coaches on the Bowl Games in college as well. The NFL network always seems to get guys to talk about this stuff during the off season. MMA is a bit different. These guys typically bow out during camp especially once the fight gets closer.
Further Neil, this isn’t an established sport by any means. The guys fighting now need the exposure.
Apples and Oranges.

I’d prefer it if ESPN wasn’t a commercial.

It isn't a commercial...
But face time on TV always helps. And even if ESPN was a commercial for our sport, what is the deal? Why is that bad?
In another way, the network is kind a commercial for all sports in that it promotes athletes. I am not seeing what the harm in this is.

As is, it definitely is a commercial.
And if that’s what you want from it, that’s cool. But like I said, I’d prefer it if it wasn’t. If they were willing to criticize a little because they weren’t just packed full with conflicts of interest. If they actually did some dissection instead of just a roundup. But like I said, preference.

I see what you’re saying. But these guys are such good representatives to the sport which is always in desperate need of them I just don’t mind it as much. I wish they’d let a Strikeforce fighter on the panel to even it out, because the UFC guys sometimes go a little too far. It’s also a product of a dearth of suitable retired guys who can match these good panelists in quality. There is Pat, but I am not sure if his Showtime job would preclude this(though I can’t see why) but Liddell can barely string a sentence together and has a perennial sinus infection voice. Royce doesn’t seem like the greatest choice for a lot of reasons either.
How do you feel about Inside MMA? Kenny Rice is terrible but Bas does a good job. They have a weekly panel of fighters as well they discuss match ups with and bombard with Rice’s stupid questions.

He is much better than he used to be, back when he barely knew dick about the sport.
But correcting Jeff Sherwood on the pronunciation of then-prospect Ki-an Velasquez was a little too much. Unless Cain used that pronunciation his whole life and stopped once he got to the UFC for marketing reasons(which I doubt considering the way he was promoted and the fact Cain didn’t know much Spanish until recently)

franklin is horrible
its painful to watch him in any capacity… not to mention his picks are never a suprise, im not sure why ESPN continues to have him featured.
by suavemilagro on Jan 15, 2011 3:46 PM EST up reply actions
I disagree. Florian, Stann and even Evans are better analysts than McNeil, Gareth Davies and on occasion, Miletich. But that’s just how I see it.
Pat is good and deserves to be there.
I wish he was there every week to balance the program.

They discussed the challengers event
and Tyrone Woodley two different times during the show but no mention at all of the HW tournament? What the…
Part of this no doubt though is because they had to squeeze coverage of the NY thing, next weeks event, Frankie Edgar, the Challengers card and two whole weeks worth of MMA live on one episode due to preemption. Still, they could have cut the babble with Gerath….uh… whats his name…I know it, I can’t remember…uh..

Very
Stann is great behind the camera, I would pick him over Bonnar any given day.
