Join us at 2:00 p.m. ET: (video stream in full entry)
UFC president Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta and lightweight champ Frankie Edgar are holding a press conference about bringing the UFC to New York. Watch it LIVE at 2 pm ET/11 am PT on Facebook on AT&T U-verse's UFC tab - http://uverse.us/UFCTab, then show your support by signing the petition at http://www.mmafacts.com/petition.[UPDATES] via @Mike_Fagan_13 and @UFC:
- MSG (Madison Square Garden) prez Scott O'Neil calls Dana & Lorenzo good guys, spectacular businessmen, went to UFC 111 for his bday last yearHT: UFC.com
- Lorenzo talks about the economic impact of UFC in NY - we could bring $23m a year to the state - http://www.mmafacts.com/econstudy
- Dana: Regulation and proper medical attention make MMA a very safe sport
- Frankie Edgar: I'm super excited. I can't wait to fight here. It's been a lifelong dream to fight in Madison Square Garden.
- Reporter asks about the poll from last year indicating 68% of people were against MMA.
- White: The poll depends on where you hold it, who was asked. The 18-34 year old demographic wants it.
- Assemblyman: I won't speak for the governor, but he seems open to MMA in NY.
- White: This is New York City. This is Madison Square Garden. We want to be here.
- MMA fans can expect NYC to host at least two events – including one at Madison Square Garden – within the first year of legal promotion in the state.

As someone born and raised in NYC. PLEASE LEGALIZE!
http://mma.ly - all your favorite MMA websites, on one page.
They don't seem to recognise
European zipcodes on the petition site. I may not live in the US but I wanted to sign anyway because MMA in NY would be good for the sport.
European postal codes are a GOOD thing.
This shows that NY will pull in lots of outside money from MMA.

-Say man when I was growing up we wanted a Jacuzzi, we had to fart in the tub.

Reed Harris?
Reed Harris is the founder of the WEC and a Zuffa employee. I’m pretty sure he is in favor of regulation of MMA in NY.
Did you mean Bob Reilly?
Reed is pissed off that Zuffa closed the WEC
He’s join the NWO.

This is to officially announce their formal intent to hold an event in New York
It’s basically a PR event. Nothing has happened yet to allow MMA legally into the state yet. There’s also a rally planned by New York martial artists for February to demand MMA legalisation and regulation.
I would love
for someone to have the chutzpah to ask Dana how he expects any fan casual or hard core to buy the fact that Lesnar deserves JDS, or G-d forbid a Cain Rematch.
great tv? sure
great fight? definitely
legitimizing MMA as a sport and not “sports entertainment” no.
What does this have to do with the legalization effort in New York?

Zero
And Lesnar vs JDS is the best HW match up to make while Cain is out. There aren’t any other heavyweights either fighter should face without people complaining of a mismatch and an easy ride for either JDS but especially Lesnar.
Name a better match up in UFC for JDS or Lesnar while Cain is out? Carwin is still recovering from spinal surgery too so he’s out of the equation. Mir? Nelson? Schaub? Struve? Get real.
Anyone who craps on this is a moron of window licking proportions.

It's official. Les Miles DOES NOT have a deal with the devil. He beat him Nov. 6th, 24-21.
You Aint gonna make it to 20-1 Rowdy Rod.

Gave a very good speech. I got all warm and fuzzy watching it.
He is one of the best
If not the best sports executive in the country.

I’d like to see the fight card that would be put on at MSG. I can only imagine…

Texas may not have a huge MMA fanbase
UFC 103 did alright. But I don’t think the Texas fanbase is good enough for consistent shows

Jerry Jones wants a UFC event and Cowboy’s Stadium in the future. The WEC has done well in TX, Fight for the Troops is in TX, Shark Fights has done well in Amarillo and even broadcast on ESPN radio. The media here needs to embrace it more. There is a huge fan base for it, but the Media circus around football from HS up to the Cowboys is a full time job all year long, but that isn’t an excuse. Other major markets can cover multiple sports including MMA. Major MMA is basically a monthly event. So it would only take a handful of segments a month to really cover it.
I had typed much the same thing then my phone spazzed. An event at cowboy stadium with a lhw or hw title fight would set records.

word I read was
they were going to do Brock vs Fedor at Cowboys stadium if they could have signed Fedor away but could not. Oh well.
I’ve been overwhelmed and I’ve been underwhelmed. Can I ever just be whelmed?
I've spoken with radio PD's about why it's not covered at all
It’s really that Texas cares about Baseball and Football. Shit when College football season is over there is more interest in recruits than there is for MMA. The media isn’t really open to MMA cause there is no interest from readers/listeners.

Yeah, I sat down with the PD for ESPN austin about doing a MMA nation type show
And his words were “the staff watches MMA but you’re in the home of the Longhorns, the second the season ends we’re talking about recruiting”. Seriously, it’s so fucking niche down here. You’d have a better chance at getting a MMA centralized show in Iowa cause at least there is history and a wrestling culture. Texas cares about Baseball and Football and the Longhorns.

Having grown up in Eastern NM
it’s insane to see how much people in that area (Central/West Texas – Eastern New Mexico) care about highschool football, they get boarderline nuthouse about it. There are all kinds of shady things going on in highschool football that you don’t hear about. Players moving across town (with houses bought by booster clubs), players lying about where they live, recieving gifts. It’s almost impossible to explain unless you’ve been surrounded by it how nuts people go about highschool football in certain parts of the country.

Life Through My Lens
I live 3.5 miles from MSG in brooklyn.
When the UFC has its first show there, and without a doubt it will be a card to top UFC 100, I will be there. That’s a promise.
I wish them all the luck in the world
but I can’t bring myself to care that much whether the UFC comes to New York. An MSG super show would be pretty awesome, but much more interested in getting the UFC at the Verizon Center.
